No offense to the people questioning the motive behind giving to the charity but do you not know how most charities get funding?

They are called fundraisers and typically raise awareness of like minded individuals to the issue of "so and so," however there is no charity for fixing ****ty endings to beloved games so giving sick kids a chance to enjoy some games/books/toys is a nice second choice.

I don't want to sideline this thread.  As much as I don't feel good about it, I'm not going to trash either.  Hence why I said I feel awkward about this whole thing.  However, please don't try to rationalize it because, from what I saw, this was not started by the person running Child's Play.  This was started by fans of ME3 who want a different ending after they were called entitled and possibly a whole bunch of other things that people would feel negatively about being called.

A fundraiser entails a spokesperson or persons bringing their cause to the fore for the benefactor of said fundraiser .  In this case, the benefactor isn't Child's Play or the kids that the organization will supply with whatever it is the kids will get.  They (Child's Play and the kids that will get something) are the proxy.  The benefactor, or hopeful benefactor(s), are those who would ultimately get what they want by this action.  They are buying a positive result while at the same time forcing someone else's hand.

Please keep in mind that I'm not annoyed while I've stated this and I wasn't annoyed when I made my other post.  I'm trying to be as objective about this as possible because if I thought any more on it and allowed myself to get emotional, I'd probably try to rip everyone donating a new o-ring.  That is not and has never been my objective.  I just wanted to voice my feelings on this as that is my right (not that I have a right to post it here as I could have made this post anywhere else).  I chose to post it here because this is a direct (?) off-shoot of where this movement started, and is the perfect place to bring another voice and highlight what others might perceive because I, who spent $80 on the game and already had issues with Mass Effect starting from ME2, also have that voice: that this isn't inherently positive.

Thanks for your time.

If all this money goes to buying ME 3 I'll be pissed. Just saying.

I'd find it suitably ironic, Peete.

Plus... it's a good game. It just has a lousy ending. If the donations we make help raise awareness so that the ending is fixed, then I'd *want* people to be playing the game - because it's really, really, really well done, and I want people to share my enjoyment in the story.

Good god, how did we raise 56,000 dollars in less than a week? And why isn't this bigger news elsewhere?

I politely disagree. I was uncomfortable and skeptical of this method of protest as well, at first. After all, a protest is a form of conflict. It is inherently negative. Until now.

This is an entirely new form of protest. This is something that is inherently positive. This is demonstrating discontent is an extremely positive matter, and yes, that is unsettling at first. The first thought is that the conflict is somehow justifying itself because it is doing something positive that is otherwise unrelated. And yes, there are a few out there who are trying to do just that. And yes, that is objectively wrong. But that is hardly the point of what is being done here.

it is simply demonstrating discontent, not justifying discontent, through a positive monetary action.

(Granted, I may be romanticizing a bit. But even if the movement is not as a pure as I characterize it, I still view it as a great precedent.)

Another $2,000. Simply astounding, given that I was surprised when it broke $1,000.

Wow, I have to say I am shocked. Who would've thought something like a crappy ending to a videogame trilogy would spawn a fairly successful charity fundraiser.

Well done

I can't help but wonder what would've happened if the money raised was "held hostage" until Bioware produced a satisfactory ending. Not saying it should've been done, just curious.
