Morrigan and Alistair

"Edit: To add, her only signs of actually using that soft organ in her head is when she argues against the existance of the Maker. Only to be stymied by Leliana's silly "oh you don't believe in anything, you must be sooooo lonely!" Yeah, coming from the girl who totally wasn't lonely enough to make up an imaginairy friend to talk to her~"
I love the banter between Morrigan and Lilliana and Lili says that only a rare few get to sit beside the Maker in the afterlife and the rest of us are doomed to eternally walk the void. I love it because this is quickly followed up by her saying something to the effect of "don't you have any hope for an afterlife Morrigan? That's so sad". If only Morrigan had pointed out the flaws in her argument.

To be slightly off-topic but close (being that it's still a party member) I liked Oghren myself, I think half the time I talked to him in camp he told me a joke and dropped like a stone shortly thereafter, drunk off his arse....too bad he ran out of jokes quickly. I won't say he's the best character but he provides me with more entertainment than not, damnable dirty dwarf. Hehe.

Morrigan is ignorantly evil. I've romanced her more than once and read just about every line she speaks.
Shes not stupid or one dimensional but emotionally retarded with regards to love. Sure she can be irrational as hell but we know why that is, she is "brain-washed" by Flemeth at a young age.
I like Morrigan if only because I'd like to see her story complete, too many questions unanswered.
You realize the last half of the game the conversations are about her not wanting to care about you because of what has to happen right? She stated it a few times, even warned you. Doesn't sound like you actualy read most of the lines.

I disagree with the opinion that morrigan is evil. She is just different. (I may be wrong since I've not finished the game yet). Allistair is dumb and funny for that.
However, they don't make me forget Aribeth...

I agree about Aribeth (NWN)... I still remember her. The voice acting was beautiful.

Thanks for the reply

Minsc and Boo are unforgettable. His opening lines in BG2 were a great introduction and made me love him. So was Viconia, she was my first Pixel crush, she was as compelling as any character in DA. On the epilogue, it was mentioned that male PC was able to get a few years of loving companionship and a child with her, before she dies from poison meant for me.
Ahh... We are all heroes; you and Boo and I. Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice!

They're both oversold as being much cooler and smarter than they truly are by the end, my only complaint.
If they both could have remained exactly at that coolness level throughout, I'd have loved that. But then there'd be no tragedy, no crying, and we'd kick everything's ass and breeze through in time for brunch with Andraste.
I did expect to be able to wrangle a much happier ending, since the game otherwise allowed for hard work bringing good resolution of all the side plot lines. There's zero way to have love win out in the end. Having Alistair be racially discriminatory kinda kicked me in the nargles.
Having Morrigan want to kill her mother (go Morrigan!) but still carry out her directions to the letter made me irritated.

Alistair is pretty good, I'll admit. One of my favorite characters in any game of late.
Morrigan? One dimensional evil witch with an attitude problem and a single-digit IQ.
I had exactly the reverse attitude
Alistair, immature, whiny, self pitying, less funny than he thinks he is and all round annoying. Trying to put my self thru the alistair romance but so far he's really doing my head in. Maybe he improves, Morrigan certainly does when you go thru her romance, but he better start soon.

These characters are, however, really well written and enjoyable, regardless of how they both seem to have the mental and emotional dispositions of 15 year old girls. In short, I liked them both, and I felt incredibly sad when Alistair dumped my elf after having made him king and horribly offended by Morrigan's (possibly) evil offer.

Allistair was my PC's love, for all his flaws and charismatic strengths. Morrigan was her Best-Friend Forever, even if she conceives the child. Love is selfish, self-serving, but also inclusionary and imperfect.
You mean infatuation is selfish and self-serving.

Amen.
Even though that's an insult to most 15 year old girls

What about those of us whom like both genders?
*Starts wringing hands and such*
Oh, woe is me, I want a brainless horndog but suprisingly comedic Alistair, but Morrigan looks so good and is smart and witty, but there is my girly girl lub Leliana... oh... what ish I to do nyao?!
I think the game had many good characters, the depth given to them is well done, and there is always room for improvement. I just met Sten, and he has YET to tell me why he did what he did.
@ Kuravid
I think the allegation that their mental and emotional dispositions are a reflection of 15 year old girls is a bit much; I rather enjoyed their banter as it was most comedic.

Admittedly, I did like Steve Valentine before (I watched Crossing Jordon and was always like "why Jordan, why?? Go for Nigel, Woody's not good for you!) but his humor and tenderness (Alistair's) and shyness etc were all really well done. Better than the Mass Effect romances, much better.
SarEnyaDor approves + 100 of Alistair
Morrigan was surprisingly touching, I hated her at first, she grew on me, and I actually felt real guilt when I lied to her later, and felt bad when she told me how glad she was she met me, I was like a sister, etc. Great charcter - sort of like Hillary Clinton, I guess -> you either love her, hate her, or respect her from afar and try not to get on her bad side.

Morrigan was a pretty good character I thought, a bit of a **** at first I thought, but she's just one of those people you have to get to know to understand why, then you either like her or sympthaize with her.

Only thing I'd ever seen Steve Valentine in was a few episodes of "Estate of Panic" in which he reminded me of Richard E. Grant and I wandered off out of boredom.
The context is key, I see.

I have a humor fetish. It's absolutely required if I'm going to be attracted to someone. He got me. Also deeply romantic. Too bad about the brain transplant somewhere halfway through the game, but oh well.

I strongly feel that everyone that hates Morrigan never really went through all of her conversations or romances. She is one of the best done characters in rpg history. Seriously, her attitude and everything about her is explained in the conversations/romance.
These are probably the same women that love Allistar and his whining.
On the contrary, I do like Morrigan (I didn't before the game came out but reading her conversations gets me to understand her more).
What I dislike about her is everything you do is wrong. Heck, some of those things you do are HELPING to get friends/allies/money etc. Seriously woman ...

Textbook example of Jealousy at work...
Pfft. Hell, I think Oghren is more endearing and has a better heart.
It's not about looks. Really, there are lots and lots of "pretty" people that are just repulsive and she just squeaks by on being tolerable because she's amusing. Also Flemeth DID save my life and that spares Morrigan's. And even Flemeth's...sometimes. I owed Flemeth my life and Morrigan can be safely left at camp after Lothering and ignored completely, she'll still do the same thing in the end.
But feeling sorry for something stunted and sick isn't jealousy, it's regret that she got broke before I got to help fix her and now it's too late. You can spend one game thinking maybe she'll come around and learn...but there's no learning with her. She's permanently busted as far as human relationships go. And now she's planning on being a vicious calculating mommy and doing exactly the same thing to her daughter as was done to her.
She's a perpetual abuse victim, returning to the ways she was taught, and never veering. You catch her right between being the abused and being the abuser, but she's a lost cause. It's ugly.
Her eyes and lips are cool, though. But that's not worth Ferelden's future.
