I chose "miss on purpose" but in my mind it was just an honestly missed shot. I'm an adept, not a gunsmith like Garrus. My Shep just misses sometimes. Plus Garrus was so happy!

I shot the bottle. It would be disrespectful to intentionally miss.

I hit the thing every time, Garrus is my sniper bro and we constantly are having 1 shot kill matches while taking out Cerberus and Repears, I would be a poor sniper myself if I missed.

Shot the bottle. Why would I intentionally miss for Garrus? Missing would suggest I pity him and want him to feel good even though he's worse which I don't. We're buds and we had a friendly shooting competition. Which I won.

My vanguard took the shot. Sniper's not "her" weapon per se the way it is Garrus', sure, but she's an N7 marine. The idea that she can't hit a slow-moving skeet with a combat-ready Mantis (plenty of advanced WVI on that thing) is ludicrous. And she has way too much pride to ever throw a competition. She'd consider it an insult to both Garrus and herself, and she'd never deny either of them the ribbing she'd get to give him.
That said, the dialog is a lot better if you miss, I agree.

My Infiltrator Shep did not miss
But my Vanguard did! I liked the scene better when Shep did not miss.

Missed.
Playing Adept who hasn't fired her weapon. Making Garrus look like a fool would be bad for his morale

Doing less than your best in a competition is disrespectful to your competitors. I have no doubt a Turian would see it that way too.
Besides, my Shepard is an Infiltrator. Like hell she'd lose a sniping competition.

Paragon infiltrator, only carried a sniper rifle the whole game (up to that point) (to minimize weight to lower cloak/infiltrate recharge duration) ... Somehow I managed to miss that bottle
Garrus didn't suspect a thing

Garrus is my bro, so yeah I missed on purpose. Would do it again, too.

Imagine this:
Miss on purpose -> Garrus thinks he's a better shot than you and thus ends up dying in the DLC to come
Shoot it -> Garrus realizes he isn't the best shot around and thus takes more care, surviving the said scene.
Hopefully that won't be the case, since I always miss on purpose. Vakarian is a damn good friend

I missed as well. He's my buddy and if we didn't make it through the final batlle...(cough*hint hint Bioware*cough) I thought he deserved a victory, however small it was.

I'm a renegade so I shot it. I wanted to show him that no matter how good he is he will never be better than me.

You people say things about letting him win being the right thing for a friend to do, but Id hate to win something because someone else let me.
As if my infiltrator shepard would ever miss ANYTHING.
Garrus knows this and my infiltrator Shep has nothing to prove to him. In my mind Garrus would appreciate the gesture of sandbagging and why Shepard did so.
Not saying either choice is wrong, just comes down to how you're playing your Shepard.
My thoughts exactly. Garrus has been in enough real battles with my Paragon FemShep (non-romance) to know exactly how good a shot I am and that I've made far more difficult shots than a tossed bottle. This isn't a true competition, where I agree throwing the shot would be disrespectful, but just two friends shooting the bull and blowing off steam. Garrus likely knows I missed on purpose (or, if not, was unlucky), but recognizes it as a gesture of friendship and a tip of my hat where I let him claim the title of "Best Shot In The Galaxy" as a sign of comraderie and respect, not as a sign that I doubt his abilities.

Shot the hell out of that bottle for a couple reasons.
1) Elite space marine, Soldier class. Though he prefers shotguns and assault rifles, my Shepard is a crack shot with any weapon, just like Garrus.
2) Honest competition and rivalry between friends. Keep in mind, you don't beat Garrus even if you make the shot. You both hit two targets. It's a draw.
3) Garrus could tell. He is not an idiot. You think you can fool a professional sniper who has been scopin' and droppin' since he was 15?

My renegade infiltrator shot it. My paragon vanguard is going to miss. This was always the plan for me. Not sure what future playthroughs will bring. Hell, last time she even held a sniper rifle was when she rescued Archangel and shot that Loki mech in the head. All shotty all the time ever since

Miss. You ever try to hit a small object moving quickly through the air with a scoped, bolt action, rifle?
There's a reason the world uses shotguns for bird hunting/skeet shooting.

Then again, are you a super soldier made into a billion credit cyborg science project? I think we can safely assume that Shepard is a bit outside the norm.

It depends on my class. My soldier and infiltrator will definately hit it but my other non-sniper shepards will miss.clopin wrote...

It will be a bullseye for my Shepards, every single time. Garrus isn't some green-arse recruit whose confidence I'm trying to build. He's my partner in badd-assery. We push each other. That is the nature of their relationship. I was actually somewhat offended at the suggestion that I should miss. Nowhere else in the franchise is there any suggestion that they have the kind of relationship where they'd want to do anything but their absolute best against each other -- especially not now, when they're old friends.
