It's like a fund-raiser, though it's a charity. It's not like Retake Mass Effect 3 is taking donations for some campaign. A cause has been named and this charity allows us to make a physical impact, a positive one on a real person's life AS WELL AS get our point across. Now, you had every right to call us self entitled whiners back when everyone was just complaining, but now people have gone out of their way to show they're willing to hand over the price of the game and then some at no benefit to themselves.
This does not guarantee we'll get the ending we ask for but we'll still have helped a kid or two. Now that's the bottom line. A charity is a charity and the the names and amount of donors is a formality, we already have a petition on this website with well over 20,000 votes for a new ending. If you don't agree with us, fine, that's your choice.
For the love of God though get off your friggin' high horse and SHUT YOUR MOUTH, all of you who criticize this movement. If any one of you who calls this ridiculous is so in the right, why not donate anyway? Help out for helping sake which a few people have already done.
Sorry to go off but insulting people over this of all things is crossing the line. If people didn't care they'd just sign one of several petitions online without donating anything, so clearly there IS some heart in this. It's not all entirely for the ending or we'd just be shelling money to Bioware directly.

Why Child's Play? That group's swimming in money that supplies a hobby. Why not a real charity like Red Cross?
That could be the next one, apparently the three people who put this together are going to talk about setting up an annual charity drive for this community.
By the way folks, up to 24k now. 25k or bust, we have roughly two hours to hit that golden number.
Make it happen.

I dunno if this is the place to argue which charity is more charitable than which. Regardless of which we donate too, it's going to a good cause and at least the money isn't being wasted.
Maybe when they release and f* Dragonage III or Mass Effect: Subtitle we'll do Red Cross instead. (I'm joking. I hope)

The donation page is live at this address:
http://retakemasseff...ect-childs-play
PLEASE NOTE that the "item being purchased" notification on Paypal will show my email address, and not that of Child's Play (donate@childsplaycharity.org). This is based on how ChipIn works. You can verify that "Child's Play" appears in the upper left corner as the charity name when you reach the Paypal site.
The final receipt on your Paypal account (mat take a few minutes to process) does correctly indicate the recipient ("Payment Sent To:") is the Child's Play charity. The email receipt from Paypal will indicate the correct destination as well.
If anyone has any concerns about the legitimacy of this donation drive,
Jamie Dillion (project manager at Child's Play) has graciously offered
to confirm - contact email is jdillion@childsplaycharity.org (also
available from the Child's Play website).
Thank you all again for your support.

A quote from the official Child's Play Fundraising Guide:
If you’re running purely as an Internet based fundraiser, it is absolutely imperative that you link directly to the Child’s Play PayPal account though ChipIn. ChipIn allows you to collect metrics on how much your fundraiser collected without having to “touch” the money. By "touching" the money, you are technically accepting money privately and then deciding to contribute the funds to Child's Play.
Any money donated never touches any third parties, including myself - it is going directly to Child's Play. ChipIn is merely a method to track the amount of donations and donators.
Please post here or PM me if you have any questions.
As stated, please PM the OP of this topic for more information if you feel uncomfortable.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Red Cross as well but... isn't this sort of tailor-made for an idea like this?
The reason people are so upset in the first place is because of the emotional and intellectual connection they formed with the game. Sure, a lot of us think the end was an absolute train wreck and were considerably unhappy about it. However, instead of sitting back and spewing vitriol on the forums a few wise men/women decided to channel that into a positive outlet.
Do we REALLY think Bioware is going to give us a new ending because of this? Long shot would probably be an understatement but at least it will make a positive impact.
The charity provides sick children who are stuck in the hospital an opportunity to escape the unfortunate situation they're in by doing something that all of us on this forum have in common - playing fun games.
Frankly, I think they knocked this idea out of the park. Raising over $24,000 in less than a day clearly shows that it other people feel similarly.

If you donated only ONE dollar at least once to this charity, that $24,000 we're sitting at right now would double. We could hit $50,000 in under 24 hours. We have 2 hours to make such a thing happen folks... that's an order directly from Admiral Hackett. One dollar is all it takes, all of us in unison, within the next two hours.
Edit: I am unable to post this in the spoilers allowed thread located at social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/9845819/1
Would someone please be willing to copy and paste this little point for me? We may just yet inspire an influx of people to do it.

Ooooh they're more than ready. Approximately $25,000 War Assets with Thousands more in support EMS wise. If everyone who voted for new endings in the petitions would donate just one dollar I guarantee you we'd see $50,000 before the sun comes back up here on the East Coast.

I don't understand how some people are upset at this "petition/charity". At least people are protesting in a positive way, or would you rather them bomb metacritic and amazon with other disgruntled fans. Maybe pirate the game? There are dozens of worse ways they could protest.
Worth repeating.
