It seems totally unbalanced versus dwarves and humans. Both are built for physical damage and swift attacks, but arguably elves are much better sutied for assassins and rangers.
Am I wrong?
Elf's should be made to support rogue class.

I found it a bit odd that elves were the least suitable to become rogues as well. Oh well, it probably won't make that big of a difference. I'll still play with my mysterious Dalish ranger :>

I think you need to play through one or two origin stories - without preconceptions about what the races are like.
Bear in mind that after gaining a few levels your characters may not differ much in attributes, but other characters' attitudes to you will be very different, depending on your class and race.

Yes, the race bonuses are negligible at best. Other than dwarves not being able to become mages there aren't any real restrictions in the game.

The Origin stories paints a world that is vastly different than "D&D" Worlds or even that of Tolkien. Shouldn't use those standards to view the world.

City Elfs get Coercion, not sure how useful that'll be yet, seems like a nice rogue skill though?

Maybe not vastly different... elves and dwarves DO exist and follow some tropes, but JamesX still has a good point. Perhaps we'll be treated like Bioware's recent sci-fi RPGs, and the game writers will have taken time out to "set up" the races for us.

I understand what the OP means the racial Starting bonuses for elves sort of forces them into a mage role then the starting skill offsets it at least for the non city type & makes them a ranger
but you would sort of think that a Dalish Elf in particular would have an extra dex bonus from wandering the ancient forests
