ok i found the spirit apparatus but they keep coming, what is the catch?

It might be helpful to be more descriptive. I think I know what you might be talking about, but it's not the Anvil of the Void, it's just on the quest with 50 billion other things.
If you're talking about the fight with the spinning Totem-thing and the Dwarf ghosts. Kill a ghost, hit his nearby anvil, this will damage the face near him. Try to kill two if you can and hit both their anvils. When you hit an anvil, it damages the face pointing at that anvil. You must do it twice per face.

It is rather lengthy encounter, so just keep killing dwarves and clicking anvils, and it will end eventually.

Look at the eyes on the thing in the middle, they'll be glowing or what looks like bleeding. Kill a spirit in front of an anvil and use the anvil and it will blast the eyes. You need to hit each eye twice so they have no effect on them.
