after finishing the game, i started thinking , what is the ending that would satisfy me ?? i think bioware got stuck and didn't know how to finish so the did this deus ex machina crap .
i think they wanted to finish it with a convoluted ending that cause controversy like this ...they seems to ignore that a full scale united galactc army is more than enough for a good eding
so basically i was about to sleep when i asked my self , how could the reapers be defeated without using bioware's solution ??
i mean yeah we collected the entire galactic armies but the reapers are not only the ones surrounding earth, they are already widespread throughout the galaxy and could easily use mass relay to shift the tide of the battle ..
in my opinion the solution was handed by the illusive man . he found the reaper signal and can control it .. so when attacking cerberus base , shepered faces the illusive man and if shepered have enough paragon ( very high level needed ) he could convince the illusive man to give the reper signal code , and join the war ( extra assets ) or we kill him ...
then we have the reaper IFF from omega 4 relay .. this could be reverse enginered to prevent reapers ships from using a mass relay
so the war goes as this , reaper signal gets blocked so reapers within Sol can't call for support , also mass relays blocked by the new IFF so they can't escape the battle or call for other ships ..
and may be also use the crucible as superweapon that actually shoot reaper's ships not a mass destruction weapon
then the galactic army wipes them one system at a time ... with some nice cinematics showing your war assets in the action
