Cortez plotline, I'm really not sure about this.

He's only talking about losing someone who probably meant more to him than anyone else in the galaxy, and from context it's clear that he's someone who clings to these things AND he blames himself.

Is Thane emphasizing his heterosexuality when he talked about his wife or son? Not even a little, and his wife had been dead far longer than Steve's husband.

You're right but Thane as a character was more about attonement for his sins rather than having lost his wife.
As I said, I dunno if it was handled poorly or if I'm just biggoted, maybe a little bit of both.

There's only one "g" in bigoted. But yeah, I think that might be coloring your perception. If Cortez was pining for his dead wife, this topic wouldn't even exist. Double standards show bias.

No one ever mentions Conrad talking about his wife. But if it's husband instead of wife, it's suddenly a big deal.

But he only pronounces the word husband twice in a 20+ hours game:
The first one because you ask him and he answers out of courtesy, but he doesn't even want to talk further about it.
And the second one, because you catch him crying while listening to the audio, again, not his choice.
That's hardly insisting. You can always choose not to talk to him, or not help him get through the mourning.

I love how he casually says he has a husband. LOL, bet that got lots of the people who hadn't read the leak.

I found Cortez to be well done, funny, and very human in how he deals with his loss.

"DID WE MENTION HE HAS A HUSBAND YET? DO YOU GET IT? HE'S GAY! HE HAS A HUSBAND, DID WE TELL YOU YET?!"

Bleh. Aside from that I like Cortez, it's just a shame his sub-plot vanishes after you give him the "Here's to being friends" speech.

I liked how casual it was, that no one made a big deal about it (well, Shepard, and Vega never made a big deal about it, they're about the only ones who ever interact with Cortez), but by making his letting go process his major character arc, it makes me feel like Shepard is his rebound relationship. I don't think it was intended that way, but it just leaves me uncomfortable with going through with it.

"You know me and my damsels, mister Vega"
"That I do".

I admit that line made me chuckle.

Cortez was my femshep's non-squad bff. I liked his character quite alot, especially his interactions with Mr. Vega.

I think he still says to Shep that he war worried about him after some mission (not sure). And in the end, Shep Screams "STEEEEEEVEEEE!" when his shuttle goes down, even if not in relationship. So they do have a bond. M.
