Nope Ashley is so bad in ME 1 I can't get past it, plus Liara is a great character who grows through the three games. Also with Kaidan and Steve available now the ladies have been kicked to the curb.

Liara is an unemotional paranoid?

...What game did you play?

To answer the question: No.

She's really ugly in ME1.

Not a romance option in ME2 with no special scenes.

Nope, didn't miss out much.

She treats shepard like crap and talks down to him by forcing her idiotic opinions on him. That not only makes her a god awful soldier to speak to a superior in that manner, but also a god awful girl to be attracted to.

She is a very beautiful women, in ME1, but sticking to military regulations. In ME3, she is gorgeous.

How does she treat Shepard like crap? Because she is not a "yes man (women)," with strong beliefs and principles....that just makes her incurroptable. I would want somebody like that beside me in a battle.

I never saw her force her "idiotic" opinion's on him, she is one hell of a skilled soldier and a patriot, and if Shepard is a good CO, he will ask opinions from everyone in his sqaud (just like my Section Commander does)...and he is the one to make the call, not her.

There are other people who can articulate it better than I can.

No you got it right. They don't like Ashley, so they just point out the things that support their arguement, like the one conversation that says she is believes in God and somehow she turns into a religous nutcase.

Agree with both. Seems people turned Ashley in this alien hater because she is religious even though nowhere in the game does she outright say she "Hates," Aliens..she is just not use to seeing them since if they took the time to learn her backstory she was black listed and was always on human worlds. Then again like you said all they do is follow the band wagon and hate for no reason....funny though since the character Ashley has such a big emotional investment from everyone that plays the game.
"Hey what did you do with Ashley?"
"Oh I exploded that chick! "
"How about Jacob?"
"Ehh nothing really."

OT: I romanced her since 1 ,don't even have the paramour achievment in 2 , and continued with her in 3. The arc was really well done aside from having the least amount of lines compared to anyone in the game...love how Liara has new dialogue every dang time you go into her room yet Ash has what...2 lines then "Commander." Also I like the idea that she actually acknowledges you worked for a terrorist cell and doesn't just brush it under the rug instantly . The "Love you," Was a nice suprise I actually never expected that and actually wanted to leave her on the ship when I was going to pick my squad for London just to protect her.

I never liked Liara just because of how weird she acts towards sheppard, the moment you take her out of the cell in ME1 she is already trying to jump your bones without even knowing you, then she goes and finds your dead carcass and drags it around, and finally in 3 is pushy to be with you...she acts like a stalker more than anything.

I saw a vid on Youtube where shep [SPOILER] shoots Ashley after the cerberus coup on the citadel. She tells him that she hopes that Shep is taken by the reapers etc. Kaidan doesn't do anything like that and is all cool in the same situation. I will never Virmire kaidan again.

So no, I don't regret it one bit. Imo Liara has the best romance anyways.

Can you post a link? All I found on youtube was this (or the same version of this uploaded by different people), and she doesn't say she hopes the Reapers win. She says that she learned from Shepard not give up what she believes. NOT that she hopes all sentient life is killed

I haven't romanced Liara yet. Her ridiculously thick plot armor irks me. I will end up having a biotic shep romance her, but only because I feel bloody obligated to.

After my first run of ME1, I made sure that Ashley got blown up on Virmire every time. Couldn't stand her.

I realise that most of her failings in ME3 are also Kaiden's, but I didn't appreciate her lack of trust, or her idiocy on the Citidel.  I would have liked the opportunity to sacrifice her again in ME3 actually. It could have been quite an emotional moment.

I'll give them credit though. I thought her model in ME3 was probably the most attractive female character in any of the three games.

I had no interest in Liara, but thought that she was a good friend to Shepard, so I was quite happy to have her around.

Ash does nothing but accuse you of being a Cerberus agent in ME3. That seems to be her only purpose in the game. No matter how far out of the way you go to earn her trust, she just never trusts you.

And Kaidan is basically the same as Ash, except for being male and not quoting poetry. He just comments on room decor and stuff.

Liara has the best romance by far in all 3 games..
Honestly I thought Ashley was a let down in ME3..

She STILL complains about how she doesn't trust me cause Cerberus even though I told TIM to shove it. Then she doesn't say a word to me for the entire game just things like "Hey Commander", then she goes and gets hammered with Vega  then you talk to Vega about it and he's all talking about how Ashley is one crazy girl and alot of fun, like wtf? Also, thanks for the invite then like 1 mission before the end game she's like "Hey you still want me" Shep says yes and she's like "Aight lets screw"

What a great relationship.

i wish i had more face time with my LI. not zaeed type dialogue.

i somehow got into a relationship with liara on playthrough number 2. honestly have no idea how i can go from being exclusive to ash since ME1, to somehow ending up with liara at end game romance. i usually pick paragon responses, but i didnt think id end my relationship with ash with just one little choice of text, which im not even sure when or where or how it happened.

On top of all this..... FYI, Liara will quite possibly marry and love 8 or so more times and sleep with over 100 other men before her lifetime is over

Some Asari, likely, but I really doubt Liara would. She just doesn't seem like the sort of person to be all that interested in relationships or sex, with the important exception of Shep.

On my sole runthrough (Liara all the way), I really enjoyed having her as the LI, it just really fit. I recognize that Liara isn't to everyone's taste, but given the persona I felt that my Shepard has, that I decided for her to have right at the start of ME1, they fit hand-in-glove, throughout the series. Even her apparent distance in much of ME2 and ME3 felt right..and I was very happy Shep eventually managed to get past her barriers and commit! :)

Ashley, as a friend, got a bit irritating with the trust issue (and that was reflected in the dialog), but I thought she was ok overall. I understand where she was coming from, even though my Shep looked at things differently. I haven't tried Ashley as a LI yet, but maybe I will sometime (if the EC fixes the ending).

I find it odd how this thread seems to operate under the false assumption that Ashley and Liara are the only two female LIs. I know my MSheps didn't romance either of them (although I do have one FemShep/Liara playthrough).

On my first playthrough, Wrex got killed, and I found myself regretting just the opposite.

I regretted romancing Ashley and went back to play ME1 twice so I can romance Liara and Tali instead.

All she does is sit in the observation deck and stare at the silly window and has nothing to say 95% of the time.

If you really care about Ashley, you should make her a Martyr in Virmire, have her detonate the bomb so she can die like a heroine.

where the Kaiden one is much different if you make the same dialogue options. Kaiden actually makes you feel sorry for killing him. Kind of glad to kill Ashley with the response she makes.

Her personality in Mass Effect was xenophobic, uptight, and the kind of chemistry that was forming between her and Shepard seemed  equivalent to a superior saying "higher" and a subordinate asking "How High Sir?" But being unable to witness the pillow talk, I have no idea.  And her meatbun hair had a grandma feel that I just couldn't find attractive, she frankly looked better with her helmet on.  But in Mass Effect 3, Ashley has more depth and seems to have more connection with Shepard emotionally with the choice she made later in the game, either follow her loyalty to her career, or follow her loyalty, possibly love, for Shepard.  And frankly she gotten far more attractive in ME3, think it's the loss of the meatbun hair.  Point is, in Mass Effect 3, even Mass Effect 2, Liara has become this unemotional, paranoid, weirdo.  And I have no clue how in the spance of three stories they're still walking on eggshells around eachother.  I'm not talking about gushy love, but, something more than, "Thanks for Stopping By."

You can romance her in 3rd game if didn't in the 1st. So I'd say just replay the game and tell Liara it's off so you can start up something with Ash. Problem solved.^_^

I don't regret as I still like Ash a lot. But there's no denying that her writing got pretty bad in ME3. If the writers showed the same love for the VS like they constantly show their favorite pet Liara, things would've turned out better.

I thought both were relationship arcs were great.

Ash: I could totally see things from her perspective and given her military/family background all her behavior and actions made sense to me.  Actually I really think her character is quite brave and open minded given what she had to grow up with and that she really does develop over the course of the 3 games.  REMEMBER that prior to ME1 she's never served with aliens before.  Plus she was just a gunnery chief.  Granted most of this development is explored if you romance her.

Liara: Really great too.  Her character is so full of wonderful contradictions of strength and weakness.  I just found her to be really endearing.  So for my other Shep it could only be Liara.

In my case my Shep's background did make a difference for me.  The Shep that romanced Ash was a spacer so both families were in the Alliance military.  Meanwhile my other shep that romanced Liara was a colonist so Liara's emotional support made a lot of sense to this Shepard.
