I’ve been
tinkering with infiltrator builds and I was wondering which is better for
insanity:
classic sniper:
tactical cloak
(sniper damage at rank 6)
defensive matrix OR energy drain
sticky grenades (to be used as proximity mines)
rest into passives (full weapon damage and health)
full
+weapon damage armor
black widow
This build
is pretty simple, shoot for maximum survivability and damage. It’s all about
the cloak, cloak and shoot, cloak and run. Doing about 130% additional sniper
damage with cloaked shots pretty will tear through mooks and (with disrupter
ammo) one shot most defenses, even on insanity, hence my leaning towards
defensive matrix over energy drain here. With the black widow, my cooldowns are
pretty badly affected (only +120%), so I purposely avoided any other active
ability to maximize my use of cloak.
The Kai Leng/cqc
infiltrator:
tactical cloak
(one power when cloaked)
incinerate
energy drain
sabotage (tech vulnerability)
passives: full melee and power damage
+power damage armor
paladin/carnifex OR shotgun
I came up with this one after one too many game over screens from phantoms and
kai leng (when he gets the drop on me). So I figured that I’d get some payback
in return. Cloak, drop their defenses and then shoot/slice them up. This build’s
a bit more vulnerable than the sniper one, and I don’t like how much it depends
on moving around, staying out of cover (unlike the vanguard you don’t have a reliable way to regen shields)but you’re going
to be cloaked most of the time, so enemies shouldn’t be shooting at you too
much. I picked a heavy pistol over shotguns to preserve that +200% cooldown
(imo shotguns light enough to give you +200% cooldowns don’t do enough damage) plus I just feel that they are easier
to aim.
Anyway, a
little advice on which build I should roll with/how to modify either for
maximum effectiveness would be appreciated. Also feel free to post your own
builds.

i imported a me2 infiltrator adn by the end of insanity was level 60.
ended up with everything but disruptor ammo maxed. you dont realy need disruptor. if this is not a fresh playthrough and you can pick up stasis, the only thing with shields that will give you an issue are banshees and even then the issue is mild.
use n7 valiant (high ammo count, 3 round clip, good rof. at rank 5 it's a two shot to any marauder/centurion/nemesis/etc) and stasis, with a chakram or scorpion as backup.
phantoms are a non-issue with stasis. easy-mode if you have liara with her stasis. kai lang is all about that chakram thrower with disruptor ammo - but dont max it out. also dropping your stasis then having liara warp gives a nasty biotic boom against his shields. honestly the hardest part was the trash he was spawning in the room, not him

I was curious about this myself since Infiltrators also have access to Sabotages double Tech Damage effect, its kinda hard to pass up.

I just started my Insanity Infiltrator with an import from ME2. I chose Decoy as my bonus power and so far I'm loving it. The decoy can be rigged to shock nearby enemies and explode. And it gives me an extra option to either cloak and sneak behind enemies (I love tagging guardians with a stick grenade) or to set-up a sniper shot from a flanking position.
