I've got the cloth map in my hands right now...

I have that wonderful sensation of feeling slightly ripped off. The map itself is about the size of a very small napkin. Here, I'll even measure it for you: It's 13 inches across the top, and 9-and-a-half inches down its length. It has a nice thick feel to it, like a dish towel, and it's got about 4 or 5 loose strings frayed from the edges, giving it a sort of rough feel.
Here's what's interesting though. There are red patches on the outer edges. Was this done deliberately to simulate blood? LOL! Because it looks like the previous owner of this map was bleeding (possibly from his adventures) and got some blood on it. The red has actually stained right through and can be seen on the opposite side of the map, as though the previous owner's blood soaked right through. If that was deliberate then it's pretty cool.
All in all, I'd say that my map of Ferelden was worth it. The steel case is pretty cool too.
But my advice: Be careful when you're opening the packaging. The plastic cover should be preserved, meaning that you have to cut the ends with a knife. I didn't realize that, and ended up destroying the plastic covering.

If not, thanks for sharing, I won't get the physical collector editions but I'm glad it turned out great
As oppose to the batman's batarang from the collector edition

But seriously, I'm a sucker for cloth maps, but I'm a bit too far removed from the demographic to really enjoy it.

If the Dragon Age hardcover gameguide is as good as the hardcover Fallout 3 gameguide, which was exceptional, then I'll be extremely happy. It's on order from Amazon and should be here by Friday.
I plan on going very, very slow with this game, which I've been waiting for for five years. No need to rush.
November = Dragon Age.

yeah I think the red blotches are suppose to be bloodstains.
That's exactly what it looks like - bloodstains. It looks just like the previous owner was all bloodied up from his adventuring. LOL!

The game guide has already been shown to have substantial errors in it.
Total accuracy is unimportant. I just like to see the maps, and read about all the quests - yeah, you can get that stuff online, but I'm a lover of books.
People said the same thing about the Fallout 3 gameguide, which is actually one of my most prized possessions. I LOVE that book. As Todd Howard wrote in the Forward, the gameguide in many ways is even a better representation of the game than the game itself. I wouldn't go that far, but I know what he means.

That's not very small! I was expecting a cloth map the size of a mouse-pad.
It is the size of a mouse pad. Maybe a very tiny bit bigger depending on your pad but it's basically a mouse pad size map.
What irks me though is that it's fraying all over the place. It's not like "authenticity" fraying either it's just clearly easily falling apart because the cloth is cheap. Going to have to cut loose threads all over it and keep it somewhere safe. The case is very nice though. They sort of copied what fallout 3 did with the plastic cover making up part of the case cover.
