Haha wow, you're so witty! Can I please be your friend??
...Seriously though, the fact that you spent valuable seconds of your life typing that is kind of sad. If you aren't gay, I don't understand why you view this thread, let alone waste time responding with stereotypical or homophobic
posts.

Just replying with some good-natured ribbing. All in good fun. More power to you, I just don't really see the point. I don't go around making "hetero-only" threads.

You don't have to make "hetero-only" threads because you enjoy being an illustrious member of the sexual majority in a heteronormative society. Is it such a strange concept that a group of oppressed outcasts would want to band together? For the record: I'm absolutely not opposed to having straight allies on my team, so if you thought I was being exclusive, I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. All I wanted to do when I created this thread was find a couple fellow gaymers to play Mass Effect with. Is that so much to ask for? Posts like yours are just distracting from my objective.

Just my two cents. Half the reason you're an "outcast" and "opressed" is exactly because of stuff like this. It is an online multiplayer shooter... sexual orientation should have ZERO to do with it. If people saying "thats gay" offends you I hope while you're sitting on your high horse you have never:
made an  "oh snap" comment
made a racial joke
made a fat joke
made a "women drivers" joke
made a "that's retarded" comment
made a "get me a sammich woman" comment
made a comment of ANY kind that directly or indirectly refers to any person at all.
Seriously, get over it. If you want equal treatment act like a human being not a sexual orientation. Play the game, slaughter bad guys, scream at your computer monitor and brag about your kills. Leave who you sleep with, out of
it. You're only forcibly ostracising yourself. You are creating a rift in the community without there having been one.. THEN say you're being oppressed or offended or ostracsized. It is just silly.
Sincerely, Ivy who wants to blow crap up and not care who puts their hoo ha in a hoo hoo or their hoo ha in  a what what.

First of all, most of your post was either irrelevant or off-topic, so I hope you won’t be offended if I just ignore it…

Having said that, I sincerely hope you have fun “blowing up crap” with people, Ivy!
But that’s not the ONLY reason why *I* play Mass Effect Multiplayer.
I play because I want to have fun with people I have a personal connection with (i.e. met on the BSN, as opposed to just random gamers), share common intersts with and can get along with, which is why I created this thread.

Now, I’m not lambasting you for your play style or reasoning, so I’d appreciate it if you extend the same courtesy to me.

Oh and thanks for the bump! ^_^
You’ve given other LGBTQIA people (including straight allies!!!) a chance to see this thread and—hopefully!—limit their response to accepting my humble invitation to form teams of open-minded, levelheaded and like-minded individuals…instead of arguing about social issues.
:wizard:

Just a note: My post was directly related to your post and your words. My post was not irrelevant or off topic. If you choose to put blinders on that is your choice, but you can't decide my post doesn't count because you don't like it. I'm not bashing or lambasting. I pointing out the obvious flaw. Complaining about being an "oppressed outcast" and then purposely setting yourself aside.. calling yourself "gaymers" instead of gamers and making posts like this makes you an outcast. This kind of things removes you from normal society and sets you on a pedestal by yourself. You're just making it worse on yourself. You supposedly just want to play with cool non judgemental people but instead of saying that you make it about being gay.  We're all GAMERS why can't you just be a gamer too.. why do you have make it about your hoohoo or haha. Why can't it be about friends and killing.

Again my post was based solely off things you personally posted so just because you don't like it doesn't make it irrelevant or off topic.

And just for the record there is no more persecuted gaming group than girls. We can't even speak over com chat without risk of lewd comments, being told we suck,  or even being vote kicked. So cry me a river that God forbid someone says "thats gay." I'd be willing to bet MOST of your "gaymers" have said "Thats so retarded" Pick on everyone equally or on no one. It hurts no matter who and what you are, but if you make yourself stand out from the crowd on purpose you can't complain about being outcasts.

Oh, and we *definitely* want you!
...but don't worry, not in THAT way :P
(unless, as I said before, you sound like George Clooney ;)

Nah, I'm more of a smooth jazz radio type than a George Clooney type. XD

Haha that’s fine!
If you had an accent, on the other hand (especially British )… THEN we’d have problems :P

NotSoPoisonIvy wrote... And seriously... you complain when people use the gay word as in "Thats gay!" You want to be treated normally like any person.. but then you have to say "gaymer" instead of gamer. We are ALL
gamers, you don't need a special title.  Just be a gamer. The more steps you take to remove yourself from normal society the more you're going to be treated differently.  Be treated Equal NOT Different.

“Gaymer” is, in my opinion, a harmless and funny title. Whereas when *most* people say “that’s gay,” they are equating homosexuality with being stupid, which is offensive. Saying “gaymer” is benign (albeit annoying to some…), but saying something is “gay” and meaning it’s “stupid” is malicious. Please don’t equate the two of them and then accuse me of hypocrisy.

And *hyperbole alert!*, if anything, I see myself doing a favor for the homophobes! By creating this thread and “removing myself from normal society” (which, by the way, is funny because society has done a pretty
good job of ostracizing gay people for thousands of years without my help…) I’m saving them the disgust from having to play with a proud, openly gay person (because you KNOW there are probably HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of gamers who would refuse to play with me due to my orientation).

But it’s funny that you think me creating a little ole thread on the BSN is somehow contributing to a “rift” in society… if you read any of my previous posts, you’ll notice that while I *am* being selective in who I seek to play with, I’m not being exclusive AT ALL. In fact, I’d even be willing to play with you :P But I won’t be offended if you don’t want to play with me! All I ask is that you stop trying to turn this thread into a sociological debate. Thanks! ^_^

You make a lot of really good points (seriously!), but, after having studied the previous thread (titled “Any gay or gay-friendly Mass Effect players please apply! LGBT included”) that got locked, I’m trying to prevent that from happening again by not repeating the same mistakes!

Namely: the thread is intended to look for specific people (namely: any player that isn't homophobic, which isn't so much to ask for if you really think about it...). If you’re one of them, great! Welcome aboard! Let’s play some Mass Effect ^_^

If you’re not… why are you posting here?

So yes, I kind of put on “blinders” and suddenly decided to try and stay on topic because I don’t want this thread to get locked.

If you want to continue this discussion, feel free to PM me and we can discuss/debate/argue all you want!

And as I’m not a girl, I have no idea what it’s like to be a girl player... I truly am sorry you've had some bad experiences, but this isn't a competion for who gets more flak or crap from immature, random gamers.

not that i care about anyones lifestyle, but with this game being what it is i dont see how being gay or not gay matters.

are you using the game as a means to 'hook up' or something? because i think using these forums for such a thing is very much against the terms of service - regardless of your orientation

Haha no, I'm not trying to "hook up" with anyone.
And the BSN clearly states that the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Discussion Forum can be used to "seek teammates." That's all I'm doing ^_^

If you would have read the original post, you'd realize that I'm not discriminating against anyone (other than homophobes!) I *clearly* state that I'm more than willing to play with straight allies and I think every other LGBTQIA person who has contributed to this thread feels the same way. =)

I have no idea why sexual preference matters at all (but hey, people are funny like that with their social groups). What, do you talk over the mic how hot that assault trooper looks in his armor or some such [and fear people will judge you]?

At first I wanted to *face palm* when I read this, but then I remembered that one time we *did* discuss why a Centurion has to wear unflattering, bulky, ugly armor and the Nemesis gets to wear a svelte, form-fitting catsuit... Their shields are exactly the same, so why can't the Centurion prance around in a Lycra outfit??? :P

I'm a girl gaymer... I win the persecution prize!   :o

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with trying to find some like minded people to play with and occasionally socialize with.

I play with all types of people, but every so often it's nice to not have to go through the whole "I'm a girl, deal with it" song and dance and the talking about my personal life in chat = going through the whole "I'm gay, it's not a big deal" song and dance.

As none of my rl friends even play video games, I like to find some game contacts I have a few things in common with.

Looking through this thread I feel obligated to explain my initial reaction because there are probably going to be a lot more of the same vein, and I don't want the gay players to feel like this community is homophobic.  Quite the opposite, if they are similar to my post.

I was surprised when I saw this thread.  Surprised because I do not consider gay gamers and different than I am and I did not see why they would want to separate themselves from the rest of the community.  I fundamentally misunderstood the purpose of this thread mostly due to that surprise.

My first post was one of confusion and fell into a similar vein as the rest of the "I'm not sure why you're doing this" posts, and I still feel that it would be applicable if this thread was an attempt to distance the gay players as a group.
It is not.  The purpose of this thread is to find people who share a similar interest.  It is very similar to a thread I saw a while back where Australian gamers were gathering together, not because they wanted to exclude other but because they have a commonality.

I also feel obligated to explain why I did not post a similar reaction in the girl gamers' thread, which I have come to realize is out of my own bias.  I did not think much of the girl gamers' thread as I automatically made the same assumption that it was an attempt to separate a subgroup from the main community.  (It is also not, that was me misunderstanding.)  Because the differences between female gamers and myself are so obvious and physical, I had immediately lumped them in as a separate group, which I will now try very much to not do.  The differences between a gay gamer and myself are less immediate and so I was much more surprised at the title of this thread.

I say title because that is really what I responded to.  Had I read the first post at all, I would have made a much more informed post, likely similar to this one.

TL;DR: I misunderstood the premise because I only read the title.

In the end we're all human, regardless of choice of preference or otherwise. Easy to forget that, what with all the alienating that goes around.

I'm not gay, but I believe you can count me amongst the group as a fellow gamer, and human.
