I was hoping that point wouldn't come up because it is one of those wonderful arguments than can't be proven correct or false, and so should generally be avoided to prevent any frustration.

Looking through this thread I feel obligated to explain my initial reaction because there are probably going to be a lot more of the same vein, and I don't want the gay players to feel like this community is homophobic. Quite the
opposite, if they are similar to my post. I was surprised when I saw this thread. Surprised because I do not consider gay gamers and different than I am and I did not see why they would want to separate themselves from the rest of the community. I fundamentally misunderstood the purpose of this thread mostly due to that surprise.
My first post was one of confusion and fell into a similar vein as the rest of the "I'm not sure why you're doing this" posts, and I still feel that it would be applicable if this thread was an attempt to distance the gay players as a group.
It is not. The purpose of this thread is to find people who share a similar interest. It is very similar to a thread I saw a while back where Australian gamers were gathering together, not because they wanted to exclude other but because they have a commonality.
I also feel obligated to explain why I did not post a similar reaction in the girl gamers' thread, which I have come to realize is out of my own bias. I did not think much of the girl gamers' thread as I automatically made the same assumption that it was an attempt to separate a subgroup from the main community. (It is also not, that was me misunderstanding.) Because the differences between female gamers and myself are so obvious and physical, I
had immediately lumped them in as a separate group, which I will now try very much to not do. The differences between a gay gamer and myself are less immediate and so I was much more surprised at the title of this thread.
I say title because that is really what I responded to. Had I read the first post at all, I would have made a much more informed post, likely similar to this one. TL;DR: I misunderstood the premise because I only read the title.
I wish more people would read the original post before jumping down my throat...
But I really appreciate your understanding and willingness to give this thread a second look/chance, Verhalthur.

The only people who know it’s not a choice are the people who are gay and can speak on the matter with authority and certainty. And I’m willing to bet Forgone_Conclusion didn’t wake up one morning and choose to be straight...! I’m also pretty sure most people, if given the choice, wouldn’t choose a sexual orientation that has the potential condemn them to a life filled with misery and hardship at the hands of a prejudicial society that refuses to grant equal rights… but I digress!

My quote is taken entirely out of context.
And what if I had? If I had fallen out of love with someone dear to me who was of the same sex, and decided to date girls again? I find it funny that being gay is a one way thing to a lot of people. It is not. Many things regarding sexuality are not one way, and often are very double edged.
Anyway, I didn't post to incite such a discussion. I support people for who they are either way, regardless of whom they love or why.

Is that a rhetorical question? Because if you weren't speaking in hypotheticals then I have some news for you: if you used to be in love with a guy but recently decided to try and date girls that makes you bisexual (or perhaps pansexual)!
So, yes, someone who is bi can "choose" to look for a girl one day and a guy the next... but, at the end of the day, they were born with an inherent attraction to both genders. Whereas gay people are born attracted solely to the same sex (it may take time for them to accept this fact, however, because society essentially brainwashes us into thinking that opposite-sex couples are the only option). And straight people are attracted to the opposite sex. You don't get to choose your orientation!
If we could, I probably would have chosen to be attracted to girls a long time ago! It's not easy being Catholic and gay... :\\
Anyway, I'm relieved to hear you are supportive of all expressions of love and I'm glad you weren't originally trying to strike up a contentious debate because we've already seen enough of those!
...Sorry that I keep letting this thread stray from its original purpose, guys!
I know I said we should all avoid sociological discussions because I don't want this to get locked, so it's kind of hypocritical of me to engage in one... But I think as long as we are respectful to one another and *try* to stay on topic, this thread will remain unlocked... Hopefully!

Haha no, I'm not trying to "hook up" with anyone.
And the BSN clearly states that the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Discussion Forum can be used to "seek teammates." That's all I'm doing

If you would have read the original post, you'd realize that I'm not discriminating against anyone (other than homophobes!) I *clearly* state that I'm more than willing to play with straight allies and I think every other LGBTQIA person who has contributed to this thread feels the same way. =)
i realize your goal may be to avoid homophobic speech but i'm going to tel you right now - after hundreds of hours of pugging bronze and silver hardly anyone talks AT ALL (on pc)
if you are playing on the xbox360, are gay and are sensitive to speech - get off the consoles. the better play experience is on pc
i dont see how anyone's sexual orientation should have anything to do with your building a group of teammates. better, a thread where you were building a group of teammates who are mature adults only and can watch their mouths on vent - see i just re-wrote your thread title without caring or inquiring about whether someone has a foot fetish or open mouthed kissing or ANYTHING ELSE that has no bearing on playing this video game in multiplayer.
i am hoping this thread is deleted or closed. it's inappropriate for this forum. now if you want to have a discussion about gay depictions in the single player game i'm all for that - in the other forums. but this is the multiplayer forum and all you're doing here is playing endless horde mode. you being gay or straight or a vegetable has no bearing on my evaluations of your ability to shoot a game-gun - nor should it. instead the thread should be reposted as you looking for mature adults to play with who can avoid homophobic and offensive speech when the poo hits the fan and not espouse at length during a match about their social/political views

I have a crappy, old PC that isn't able to handle games and I don't have an extra $1,000+ to buy a new one (which sucks cause I've been wanting to play The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings for a RIDICULOUSLY long time)... So the Xbox will have to suffice!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but, thankfully, this thread will NOT be "deleted or closed" as long as we remain respectful to one another and stay on topic! =)
Also, there is nothing "inappropriate" about creating a thread like this to look for specific teammates. This is a social network and all I'm doing is a little bit of harmless social networking. I didn't have any gay friends that liked Mass Effect but, after creating this thread, I've found a great group of people to play with. We all have a lot of fun together and we probably wouldn't have found each other were it not for this thread... So, I'm hoping it doesn't get locked! If you find this thread to be offensive or annoying, just don't read it or post in it!

Should someone create a BSN group for this? It'd certainly keep things a lot more organized.
I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I don't really know how groups work... but if you guys feel there's a collective need for one, then sure, we can make a group!
And sorry this thread is such a mess, Eckswhyzed... I try my best to keep it on topic but I'm only human

Thank you, that is probably the term I hate more than anything "lifestyle" or "lifestyle choice". Considering the 10 years or so I spent battling against it (and my sister too for that matter), it sure was no "choice" The trolls that feel the need to stick their ignorant noses into threads like this crack me up. I can only feel sorry for such stupid people.
Ignorance and intelligence don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. We can't assume ALL "trolls" are stupid just because they come across as being somewhat ignorant in one aspect of life.
Another thing: we should probably stop calling the random people who post in this thread "trolls"... :/ I know *I'm* guilty of doing it in the past, but it's not very productive or nice...
And a lot of the people we call "trolls" probably think *we're* the trolls for creating and contributing to this thread! So it's all a matter of perspective.
Now, I don't know about you, but I know how it feels to be called horrible names... and it's not a fun feeling. Name calling (even if it's just "troll") ought to be beneath us because we, of all people, should be sensitive to such pettiness and cruelty.
I understand completely where you're coming from--I struggled with my sexuality for a long time (and my sister recently came out as a lesbian!)--so I realize how vexing it can be to be subjected to ignorance and insensitivity, but let's collectively rise above the fray
Lol, you are right and believe me, I do nothing but laugh at the comments people make because they are well, pretty stupid! The word "troll" comes to my mind because of the last thread like this that was made back when the demo was out. I see a lot of the same comments and opinions floating around in this thread too. But yea, I did not mean it in a mean or nasty way, I've had a good laugh reading the comments because I find it hard to believe that people can actually still think the way some of these people do.

It might be helpful if people also post if they use a mic, too.
I have one and use it occasionally, and it can make a big difference in terms of gameplay.
Also, as this thread is intended as social networking, it would be kind of hard to get to know someone though Mass Effect 3 without being able to talk to them, so we could tell the difference between those who just want skilled players to play with or those who would like to talk for a bit.
