Like I said earlier, I already DO respect your RIGHT to seek "open-minded" (whatever that's supposed to mean... I'm going to assume it just means "accepting and indifferent").

Um, I don't think you have the first idea of what the word "respect" means.  To respect that right certainly doesn't mean belitting it by first comparing it to setting up a dating service, and then acting like "open-minded," is some ethereal undefineable fantasy.  You're not being respectful, you're being willfully obtuse.  Pretty big difference.

Ahms wrote...
What I don't respect is treating the unfortunate circumstance of dealing with a few immature bigots on the internet (surprise surprise, there's plenty of those on the internet, FYI. You just have to - yeah, this again - ignore and avoid them.) as a bigger deal than it actually is.

One way to avoid them, as you suggest, is to find other people who aren't immature bigots to play with.  But when OP does that here, you accuse him of trying to find dates, or just complain that it's not a big deal.  Consistency FTW.

Ahms wrote...
You want to play with people who are cool and enjoyable to play with, and who aren't homophobic bigots throwing slurs around ruining your gaming experience, I get that. So just create a thread looking for matchmaking. Making a point of it being a gay-friendly matchmaking is just attention whoring, imo.

Yet another user with this incredibly strange nit-pickyness.  Firstly, you must understand that there are people who are otherwise perfectly friendly but still refer to things as being "gay" when they mean "uncool," or some other term of disrespect.  Also, if he is looking for something specific, why the hell do you care how he looks for it?  "Oh, you should find people to play with by using terms and language that Ahms finds appropriate.  Anything else is attention-whoring."  Please, you find people to play with your way, OP is within his rights to do it his.

Finally, have the persnickity bunch who are complaining about this thread seen the thread that's nearly exactly the same as this, only it's a female looking for other female gamers?  Funny, in my quick perusal of that thread, I didn't see any of you there accusing the OP of attention-whoring.  In fact, most responses were guys falling over themselves to play with the girls.  Hrm, I wonder why there's a certain double standard...

My whole point is that this is just a gaming thing, and you're making it out to be a sexuality thing.

“Open-minded” also can mean being willing to let other people create harmless threads on the BSN and not throw a hissy fit. You apparently have an abundance of time on your hands because you keep posting here (even though you JUST said “for the sake of keeping this thread on track and not letting it devolve into something political where emotions run high and insults may be flung, I'll stop arguing the subject”) but I don’t know why you even bothered in the first place. You clearly are offended or upset or annoyed or WHATEVER by this thread and the people who agree with it and have happily contributed to it, so I doubt you’d ever want to play with any of us. And I doubt any of us would want to play with you! So it’s probably in everyone’s best interests if you just leave. I’m frankly tired of arguing and explaining myself to people like you.

Anyways, let’s try to stay on-topic people!
In just 16 pages we’ve collected almost 75 names… that’s pretty freaking impressive! ^_^
Sure, we get the occasional people who try to derail this thread or start a flame war but overall the posts have been supportive and understanding!

Thanks mangrilla! ^_^
And yeah, I'm definitely not looking for a boyfriend on the BSN... I don't know why Ahms seems so obessed with the bizarre conspiracy theory that I started this thread as a "dating service"... I do just fine with guys in real life, thank you very much :P I merely started this thread because I wanted to find some cool FRIENDS to play with...

If you have a problem with that, my sincerest suggestion to you is to go out and live your lives instead of wasting valuable seconds posting your indignation in my humble thread. No of us care if you don’t like this thread or don’t agree with it. So keep it to yourself and spend those 30 seconds it would take to flame or troll this thread by doing something productive… like picking your nose or something.

I'm just going to go ahead and ignore your condescension, since I'm chalking that up to you being emotionally antagonistic, rather than reasonably critical.

Here's how I'll demonstrate a simple understanding of respect: I've already agreed to your prior request of discontinuing this discussion, because you've pointed out that it's derailing the original purpose of this thread. Because of that agreement, you must have the last word, and I'll have to decline to address the rest of what you've said in your post, lest I be accused of lying or hypocrisy. Believe me when I say that I've got a lot to say in reply. I already gave my word so I'm not going back on it.

Cheers.

And to the OP, here's hoping you have more pleasant gaming sessions.

Sounds fun. Gay people can be just as badass as straight people. >:D (Commander Shepard, for 1 :D ) :3 WarGodKaizer is my XBL. Haters (homophobes, racists, sexists, etc) are all a waste of genetic material.

I've yet to hear any such slurs myself and I've played more than a few games. That being said, this type of thread kinda pisses me off. It reeks of a shallow attempt to make something into a political or social statement and rub it in everyone else's faces in the vein of Shannon Faulkner. If you don't want to be identified as gay, or a gamer, or as a race, or a geek, then the first step is to not identify yourself as such.

I would agree.  This really just seems like an attempt to get us "close-minded" folk who believe homosexuality is unnatural mad.

I just want to comment here. I'm not in favor of this thread because of the reasons I stated. It comes across as fishing and baiting for a social issue under the guise of a reasonable request; but it's probably just poor follow through. When gauging between villany and incompetence it's normally the later, so I will assume that the OP had well meaning intentions without fully gauging how others might perceive it.

Anyways since my post was quoted I wanted to disociate myself with the comment here. I am in favor of equality in general and try to judge people on their merit and not their traits. I think the comment above is ignorant at best.

I'll admit that I came to this thread kind of late in the game and that the original post has been edited for clarity.  Was there something substantially different about the original post that particularly set certain folks off?  As it stands now, there certainly doesn't seem to be anything but a fairly rational search for like-minded gamers and I can't really see how that's offensive to anyone aside from the bigots who would just rather believe homosexual people don't exist.

If there hasn't been such a substantial change, I just really don't get the outrage.  Let's say a devout Christian wants to find players who share his values (e.g., people using "clean" language, not discussing how high they are, etc. etc.).  Would the outraged commenters here find that equally troubling?  If so, I still don't exactly see the problem, but I at least admire your consistency.  If not, you have to ask yourself "Why?" and if you're also one of the people complaining while also claiming not to harbor ill will towards the LGBT community, you should probably re-evaluate whether you are actually as tolerant as you claim.

People just like nit-picking apart eetsy beetsy things for the sake of causing an argument, as far as I can tell.

The original post has *always* explained my reasoning for creating this thread and naming it as such; after the first couple pages of comments, I went back and expounded upon it for the sake of clarity but that didn’t really do much to avoid controversy… The problem has always been that people either didn’t bother to read the OP, or they just flat-out disagreed with the purpose of this thread regardless of how rationally I attempted to explain myself. Like Zerox Z21 said, some people just seem to be looking to get into an argument and nothing I or anyone else can say will assuage them!

Haha I know how you feel, Revrant… it *does* seem like we do a lot of arguing here! But I can assure you that, so far, everyone I’ve played with from this thread has been level-headed and open-minded! Now, I can only speak for the 360 players but the one’s I’ve played with are a really good group of cool and respectful individuals (and that’s the only criteria I have!)
Anyways, I added you to the list!

I think what's happening here is a vast majority of people are replying to a small minority of people who do not support this topic.

The minority is being given undue amounts of attention by so many people replying to them.
Let's just turn this topic back to its original plan of grouping to play a fun game.

i just wanna play with people who enjoy the game, actually talk (useful or interesting, not bashing), and have an understanding of tactics. All for a good time, your sexuality doesn't really factor in to whether or not i enjoy playing with you.

Thank you for succinctly and simply restating the same point myself and others have been trying to get across.

The reactions to the parody straight thread, as well as the fact that it got locked, is quite telling.

Ahms! You're back! ...I can't say we missed you.

As for afmn, I happily added him/her to the list because *he/she* came here looking for some cool people to play Mass Effect with... NOT to argue.

Edit: Oh and Ahms, after a quick search I found only one "parody straight thread" (http://social.biowar...3/index/9361603) but it didn't get locked... It just didn't seem to garner much interest at all, unlike this one. Feel free to revive it. Hopefully you'll start posting exclusively in that thread and leave this one alone!

That was just a simple comment, not a contention of any kind. I said I was done arguing points, and I meant it. I'm not a hater, dude, I just call it like it is. If that "makes me look bad," then so be it.

Happy gaming.

I troll people with my flamboyant voice. When we lose and some guy nerd rages they tend to get waaay more angry when someone with a fairy voice says "u mad"

The homophobic slurs that follow are pretty offensive, but I'm too busy laughing to really care.

I don't really talk much while playing, I learned to talk while playing only if I have too because I've been kicked for having, and I quote "An annoying **** voice"

When I talk it's just to ****** people off.
