Not necessarily, but it'd be a nice change from all of the meatheads throwing out homophobic slurs every five seconds. :)

Be this an Ace Combat 5 reference? If so, +1

OT: I'm pansexual, but I don't toss out slurs, so I'm up for it.

So I can understand girls looking for other girls (girls tend to take a lot of flak from guys)...

But why does sexuality matter?

Two options :

1 : Looking for NICE people to group whatever their sexual orientation is.

2 : Looking for people who share the same sexual orientation, with NO guarantee they will be NICE.

Option 1 all day for me, but to each his own.

Please that other thread was pathetic. Awkward flirting, girls talking about how they're always victimized, guys vigorously agreeing with them so they can seem politically sensitive, trying to act like they're tots nice, just bleh. You want a real relationship with gamers, you go out and speak to them face to face. Flirting over text makes me sick.

But I'm perfectly fine with this thread though.

And actually, I read that in the Spartan army, homosexuality was, to some extent, encouraged because it was believed to assist in troop morale and unit cohesion (if you're fighting side by side with a lover, you'll probably do everything you can to make sure you both survive).

Bit of historical nit-picking, I know, but I believe that was a certain group in the Theban army.

Seriously, though, I understand the need to make a thread like this sometimes. I'll refrain from trying to join since I'm a straight guy. ;)

Spartans encouraged it too. Actualy most of the grek soldier groups engaged in a little sexual flexibility on some level or another.

Didn't touch the other thread. I mean stuf like that is why the girls get flak. But basic point stands, those threads that ARE awkward flirtation pretty much poison the gamer comunity against girls. I've seen other threads in other forums that are legitimate searched for girl only groups.

Do people seriously not get why it makes more sense for minorities to band together than the majority?

In a game? Sexual orientation cannot be determined over voice chat.

I mean the whole minorities banding together thing actualy reveals the reality of equality through its illusion. The fact minorities need to band together to feel safe/comfortable/whatever only shows that the whole equality thing isn't working.

Wanna know the difference between common rabble and minority? There is none. They're both ****** Sapiens. Any perceived difference is a mental construct.

Nah, reapers willjust start being more selective in who/what they use to bolster their lines.

Also there may be more internal decorating and cooking going on out in dark space.

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. I imagine the same would happen if Martha Stewart merged with the reapers too.

I've only heard one person on a mic in all the times I've played. About to promote my second 20 too. And that person on the mic wasn't even speaking english so I have no idea if he was saying some homophobic slurs. And he wasn't speaking spanish or german either. Or even french. While I don't know all those languages, I can pick up a word or two to figure it out. He was speaking like a drunk martian.

So weird hearing people getting hit by this to me.

There isn't anytrhing to get. The sooner people figure out that minorities only exist in their heads the sooner we can have actual equality.

It's not like I'd have trouble joining in on a "who would win in a vega cortez strip tease competition" (Cortez, vega too muscley). And here I am, straight male, and I have no homophobia of any sort.

I'd rather see minorities branching out and trying to mingle with the majority (thereby counteracting some of the homophobia/racism/whatever) because that's a BETTER way to promote equality and community aceptance.

I do admit to calling things that are generally annoying "gay" but not as a a slur toward gayness. More as a "gay has more than one meaning".

Just because there should be equality doesn't mean there is. Minorities can only even simulate partial equality by banding together.

That's because people aren't properly educated. Banding together is all well and good but that doesn't help to gain community wide acceptance.

And considering this is a game where you don;t actually physically interact with others the need to band together is pretty much thrown out the window. Nobody can determine sexuality through voicve alone, and if people are being douches speak up. If they continue to be douches they're probably violating some community rule and you can take some sort of action.

The Sacred Band.

And if there were only some way of contriving that a state or an army should be made up of lovers and their beloved, they would be the very best governors of their own city, abstaining from all dishonour, and emulating one another in honour; and when fighting at each other's side, although a mere handful, they would overcome the world. For what lover would not choose rather to be seen by all mankind than by his beloved, either when abandoning his post or throwing away his arms? He would be ready to die a thousand deaths rather than endure this. Or who would desert his beloved or fail him in the hour of danger?

Some Greek writers said the Spartans did that, some say they didn't. I don't think a consensus has ever been reached.

This thread turned into instant win.

Who cares if you are gay though, I don't care what you talk about while I play, as long as it is not through a kinect...

You could talk about if Asari's were all males... nevermind.

As long as you play the game, your cool with me.

There is no such thing as a minority when it involves human beings. God made us all the same, we just make different choices in life. Our DNA determined our skin color, not some chart telling you who is a minority.

I don't walk around at a rock concert counting all the people  and then say "Oh, there are 15 less African Americans here, this band must be racist." You enjoy the music as fellow music fans and bang your head to the double bass. \\,,/(-.-)\\,,/

It doesn't, can't really complain if someone wants to look for others with similar interests.

I'll go make my thread asking for people with black hair then.

You two lovebirds, let me just save you the hazzle of arguing wether
this thread is legitimate or not, and link you to teamliquid where it
has been done and explained (both in the OP and in over 270 pages for
the ones slightly more thickheaded)

you might be enlightened, or you might realize you didn't actually care
in the first place, and decide to LEAVE it at that... So that the
thread can revovle around what it was supposed to, instead of revolving
around you :P

Using sexuality as a defining personality trait makes me seriously, seriously disappointed in the human race. Why should this matter when you're playing Mass Effect 3? I honestly do not understand why this needs to be a factor in deciding who you game with. This is as bad as being homophobic.

Not sure if this is a troll, but if it is 10/10. I raged.

So...You also get upset when female gamers seek to play with each other or even gamers solely interested in vanguards and infiltrators want to play together? Because those are also common interests groups as far as I can tell.  So on behalf of the minuscule population here, I apologize for us earning your disappointment in the human race for seeking out others that are similar to ourselves.

No, not at all. Gender is one thing, sexuality is another. These are two seperate issues and in an online multiplayer game, you'd be daft to suggest that females aren't treated differently by males (especially teenagers in multiplayer online games).

Claiming the same because you're gay is ridiculous. No one can tell you're gay online. No one cares if you're gay online. No one needs to know you're gay when you're online. Nothing you do in Mass Effect 3 has anything to do with your sexuality. You do not have sexual relations with other people through the multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3.

Ostricising yourself from the greater community SIMPLY for the fact you're gay is nonsensical, foolish and immature.

Then again; pot meet kettle. I started this. Time for me to back out. Have a nice day.

I actually clarified and said that I'd ABSOLUTELY be open to having straight allies on my team! Nowhere did I say I wanted to form a "gay-only" group. Sorry if you got that assumption... Sure, I'd like to find at least *one* other gaymer (this is a social network, right? Why am I being flamed for doing a little social networking???), but if you guys are on the 360, I'd happily play with you, too. =D

Oh! And ANY member of the LGBTQIA community would be welcome! Sorry, I didn't mean to sound exclusive... I really am quite friendly. ^_^
(except when confronted with ignorance, apathy and/or homophobia...!)

Autochthon wrote...

Wow. It must be nice to be so blissfully ignorant. Seriously, I sure would like to see life through your rose colored glasses...
Your "perceived mental construct" is responsible for gay slurs, innumerable bashings and various hate crimes and a rampant LGBT teen suicide rate AND homelessness rate (from being kicked out just because they're gay).
So don't tell me there isn't a difference. Until you've walked a mile in our shoes, I'd appreciate it if you kept your pseudo philosophical nonsense to yourself.

You sound like the troll here, not me. First of all, you made a ridiculously wild assumption. I do NOT think my sexual orientation defines me. Sure, it's a pretty important aspect of my life, but I bet you feel the same way about YOUR orientation (you probably spend a LOT of time thinking about girls, that's just a fact of life).
But let's stop making this thread about me, please...!

For the umpteenth time, this thread wasn't created to start a flame war...!
So if you aren't a member of the LGBTQIA community (that includes supportive straight allies, btw) ...GO AWAY!
I just wanna play Mass Effect, not get into petty arguments on the Internet.

Haha well my canon mshep romanced Liara in ME1, Tali in ME2 and continued his romance with Liara in ME3 because I felt guilty for cheating on her. I wish Kaidan were available for romance from the beginning, though... *wistful sigh*

Sometimes you just want to be able to play with a group that knows you and understands you and you can afford to be yourself around. It's the same reason people have Christian church lunches or Biker club rides or Friends-only poetry readings.

So what, are you trying to get S/S marriage in games too? :P

It's not that complicated. Maybe you want to talk about Kaidan, Steve, and Vega over voice chat while playing.
