Today I received a charming voice message from what sounded like a 13 year old boy.
He said something like "Hey ****got! I hope you get AIDs so you die and go to Hell, God hates you."
Obviously I reported him and blocked further communications from him but then I played with another person who added their name to the list on the first page of this thread, and HE *also* got a similar message. :
So I'm guessing some lurking troll on the BSN thought it would be amusing to send us childish, hateful messages... Hopefully this was an isolated incident, but if it happens to anyone else who has contributed to this thread, I want to sincerely apologize!
This was exactly the type of behavior we all hoped to avoid, and yet we also indadvertedly made ourselves prime targets for losers with no lives by publicly displaying our gamertags... Hopefully this won't discourage new people from adding their names to the list! I've had a lot of fun playing with everyone so far and I look forward to playing with even more of you sometime soon! ^_^

I have a question...Why is your sexual orientation such a major part of your life? Especially your gaming experience, where I would think it has little/no relevance at all.

The easiest way I can describe this is: familiarty, security, community.  It's the same with African Americans, Latins, Asians, etc.  We are familiar with other members of our community's culture and we find comfort and security in it.  I personally look forward to playing with some other gaymers.  I have no others gays to talk about that kind of stuff with :D

I would not bother asking. I find your question perfectly sensible but you will not receive a rational answer.

Stardusk, I know you think you’re a big hotshot on the forums because you make some YouTube videos of yourself playing Mass Effect, but that does NOT give you the right to denigrate someone you don’t even know. No one asked for your interjection.
I’m perfectly capable of defending myself.
Cal132 asked *me* a question and I will be happy to give him a rational answer:

Now, I feel like a broken record saying this again but the reason I created this thread was—primarily—because the BSN is a social network and I wanted to do a little social networking. It’s really as simple as that!
I don’t know why people keep asking me to explain myself…

No one asks why people create groups looking for competent players to do speed runs… If that’s how they want to play Mass Effect, cool!
I happen to get along the best with other gay people in real life, so it makes sense that I would want to play with other gay people (or at least gay-friendly people) online.

See, I don’t care so much about whether we win or not, I want to have FUN when I play and I find I have the most fun when I play with fellow gaymers.
Several of the people that I’ve met because of this thread have become friends in real life, which was what I was hoping would happen all along.

I’m not forcing you to add your name to the list or begging you to play with me, so I don’t see why you really care what I do. It’s just strange that you would waste valuable seconds of your life asking why some random stranger on the Internet is doing something on the Internet that doesn’t affect you in the slightest. It’s silly.

Troll elsewhere, Stardusk. I respect you as a player, but don't pick a fight here you're not going to win. Derailing this thread into a debate has already gotten many people warned or banned.

It's probably because your question is stupid and nobobdy cares about it.

It's like asking why people of the same religion enjoy spending time with other people who share their beleifs, it's called kinsmanship, people enjoy spending time with other people who understand them.

I explained how my sexual orientation affects my gaming experience, which is what you asked (albeit obliquely).

I find the fact that you assumed my sexual orientation was a “major part of my life” just because I created a simple thread on the BSN looking for gay or gay friendly people to be ridiculous.

I never said my sexual orientation was “such a major part of my life” so please don’t put words in my mouth. I also don’t see how my sexual orientation is of any concern to you. This thread isn’t supposed to be about me. It’s supposed to be about bringing together likeminded individuals to play Mass Effect.

For the record, I don’t consider my sexual orientation to be a major part of my life… other than the fact that it defines whom I am attracted to! Oh and there’s also the part where society treats me like a second class citizen because of my sexuality by refusing to grant me equal rights… and then there’s the nagging fear in the back of my head (instilled by my loving parents!) that someday I will be the victim of a brutal hate crime or never be happy… and then there’s the whole “Catholic guilt” complex that I have going on. But even after all of that, I don’t see myself being defined primarily by my sexual orientation. It is, however, a facet of who I am, and it is one that I quite like! ^_^

Hopefully that answers your question. If not, I’d appreciate if you PM me instead of derailing this thread with off topic posts.

Although I do appreciate the bumps… :P

i dont care whether someone is gay or not. I'm a christian and I don't think being homsexual is "right" however, I don't put down people who are, especially considering my wife used to be a lesbian, so I'm welcome to be friends with anybody, it's just a game.

I don't use any hateful slurs so you can add PenguinDragoon to your list if you wish and are okay that while I don't agree with your lifestyle, I will not count it against you as a person or as a player.Image IPB

You did answer for my question, thank you. I apologise for my assumption, I just presumed that if your sexuality played an active role in something as trivial as gaming, it would in the larger areas of your life too, again, I apologise for this.

I would say though, that I am not the only one being presumptuous. I too am gay, and asked merely out of curiousity as my sexuality has absolutely zero impact on any decision or activity in my life. In fact, the only reason I have spoken of my sexuality now is because you seem to have a rather defensive undercurrent to your reponses (as much as text can have an undercurrent) which is entirely unecessary. I just wanted to know this is not an attack, merely curiosity.

Thanks for the answer though. :-)

This thread (actually, this entire FORUM) is NOT the place for you to come in and spout off your religious beliefs, Tymathee.

I'm just trying to look for likeminded people to play Mass Effect with. *You*, clearly, do NOT fit that description so I don't know why you bothered asking to have your name added to the list.

Saying "I don't think being a homosexual is right" is wildly offensive.
I didn't CHOOSE to be gay, thank you very much. And calling it a "lifestyle" is also offensive.

Religious harassment of any kind is not tolerated on these forums.

Kindly take your bible and go thump it somewhere else

*sigh*
ITT: People who a part of a particular demographic trying to build a social community within a multiplayer game they collectively like to play.

Also ITT: Other people, who are probably considered the majority in every way, lecturing that first group of people.

So if you aren't interested in having your name added to the compiled list, and have nothing constructive to add, don't post in this thread.
