Do you ever actually read a post before replying to it? In the VERY POST YOU QUOTED, I said I liked the character.

I didn't say she was bad. I didn't say I disliked her. I SAID I LIKED HER.

every character has been done already. a gutsy feminist who disapproves of everything you do because it's not forward thinking enough would have been just as cliche.

I didn't call her a cliche. Nor did I say that characters that have been done before are bad.

Honestly, if you can't be bothered to read four posts, understand what's being said, and actually respond to THAT then stop responding to me.

An hey, I'm not a sperm-inclined woman either but if the deed let me make a god, one I could mold at that, well then I'd probably do it. It'd be super awkward and I'd need near fatal amounts of alcohol...but I'd be making a god!

Thats why i always sleep with her at the end, the chance to make an offspring with the spirit of a old god is too much of a temptation for me to resist, i bloody hate having to run after her everytime tho... i swear i want to know if my Noble Warrior finds her in the next expansion.

i read the posts. you backpedaled. if you're going to take steps backwards in your posts dont get mad at me when i respond to you as though you've done just that.

is morrigan a modern character? hell i dont know, i havent had any experience with her.

does bioware deserve to be criticised for her? i doubt it.

you went from criticizing bioware for their lack of forward thinking in her implementation, to backpedaling to the claim that she's unoriginal when beerfish pointed out her motives were likely far from typical motherly.

then you're getting mad at me for picking the point you backpeddaled to for a response? i dont think so.

you made it rather clear, though im paraphrasing here "bioware did a lousy job making morrigan a modern woman." beerfish pointed out how her motives could be very modern in terms of their self serving nature and you retorted with, and again i am paraphrasing "well, i did like her, but she was very unoriginal."

so do me a favor and pick which one you want to go with and i'll respond to that instead, if it'll make you happier.

I didn't like her, but "hate" is probably too strong a word. Her manner of speaking bugged me a bit (odd that the character who had spoken to maybe 5 other humans in her life had what we would consider the most elitist syntax and diction-- even the queen used a contraction every now and again, but the barbarian witch talked like an Austen heroine throughout). Her personality was rather presumptuous, and most of the humor that the writers used her as a vehicle for fell flat to my ears, but that's par for the course with the evilish/jokester Bioware characters. And I do have a natural prejudice against whichever characters that the writers use as a vehicle for their ridiculous fan-service "romances."

Also, am I supposed to know who this "Claudia Black" is?

I take you have never conversed with someone who reads more than they talk. Her manner of speaking seemed spot on to me. It also makes her sound more aloof, which was pretty clearly the aim.

For Claudia Black, watch Farscape, Pitch Black or late Stargate:SG1.

I was amused by Morrigan in the beginning. I saw her in the role of the "anti-hero". But as I did some of her side quests and she started getting all emotional on you, it moved me.

Honestly when Morrigan gets all emotional on you, it hit me harder than Leliana's displays of affection. It meant a lot because you know how difficult it is for Morrigan to emote like that and how rare those feelings are. Leliana is the type who seems would fall in love easier (and fall out of love).

Morrigan breaking down when you give her Flemeth's Grimoire has been the most touching scene for me in the whole game so far (I have not finished the game yet).

I totally adore Morrigan, For many reasons, Chief amongst them are that she's so unlike most woman in computer games in the way she's portrayed.

Lets face it, Computer games aren't really all that modern in their description of woman as a whole, Most of them are just eye-candy with stupendously enlarged mammary glands, But Morrigan actually Has a mind and is not afraid to speak it, This combined with a total lack of romantic experience makes her a brilliant character.

In fact Morrigan is just about the most modern woman you will see in any media, Shes a woman and she chooses something else above Love - if there is anything the media has thought us the last 100 years, The it is that woman will ALWAYS chose Love above all else - Morrigan doesn't ..uncanny really.

I'm honestly sitting here laughing. And what is it that Morrigan wants so much? That she gives up love for?

MAKING A BABY.

Yeah, a truly modern woman. Way-ta-go BioWare.

A Baby or Car it doesn't matter Maria, My point is that Morrigan loves you(well if you're playing male) and she still walks away, This is a rare portrait of a woman in any media and totally not seen before in a computer game - at least to my knowledge, The baby is irrelevant, but laugh away.

Don't like her, don't trust her, and don't respect her, because, frankly, even Alistair is smarter than her. She's so stupid she thinks she's smart.

Morrigan is the "Francis" (L4D reference) of DOA she disapproves of almost everything. Unless you keep threatening the "mother superior) in the Lothering chantry.

I doubt Morrigan's endgame was to have a baby all along. If so, she should have taken what she needed from Alistair or the PC back in Flemeth's hut. To say that her entire plot centers around 'baby plot' is exaggerating it, IMO.

I can also understand how Morrigan may still be seen as an image of sex in a bikini for the sake of sales, but at least it is something that is represented with minor exposition in the game. She's vain. She likes attention. She thinks of men in unflattering terms (as pawns and playthings to manipulate). One of the talks with FemPC and Morrigan is about this very general subject, how a little wink or a flash of flesh can make men do many things -- or distract them. I'm not saying these are the best and most valid reasons for her character design, I'm just saying that they were at least hinted for a reason within the game. And that's more than most 'strong female characters' in video games can say about themselves and their armor/attire/boobs hanging out.

Didn't like her at first...in fact, I spent 3/4 of the game at negative influence with her (and she was one of the main members in my party, other than Shale/Alistair, and Zevran). She really is a weird woman...

But as you progress and your relationship progresses with her, she does open up and gets emotional about things...I thought it was so touching when, before entering Denerim's gates during the final battle, she said I was like a sister to her and that she was honored to call me a friend (or something like that).

The problem with Morrigan is that two things get in the way of me having any appreciation for that "independent" side. One, her looks and the way she was/is used to sell the game. It really leads all talk of "strength" and "independence" ad absurdum because she's portrayed (as almost all female characters in such positions are) as a wanking aid, to put it politely. Two, she's so totally unlikeable. I just see her as a selfish, whiny, arrogant, hypocritical little a-hole who despite her alleged intelligence is extremely stupid in some ways. There just is no way for my character (or me) to build any kind of empathy for her at all. Never mind sympathy.

Thank you for articulating my own thoughts. Despite that, I see Morrigan as a deep character with a complex, tragic if despicable personality. My caring, compassionate Warden did build up an unlikely friendship (by going out-of-character) with her; though after enduring her idiotic tantrum "Boo-hoo! Screw you for not giving me the baby I wanted!" I really felt like sparing Flemeth and rubbing the revelation in Morrigan's face... after casting Crushing Prison or some other paralyzing spell and drenching her with the contents of a soiled chamberpot.  Image IPB

The friendship evidently meant little if she abandoned your cause in its darkest hour over such a ridiculous issue, especially considering the help you can give her. She was the only party member I disliked; I found the others to be fine, though Oghren's crassness bugged me at first.

I brought her out and about, in spite of playing "good" and in spite of the occasional disapproval, it was nothing that couldn't be offset by dialogue and a few gifts. I was honestly pleasantly surprised by Morrigan at times - she puts on a tough front, but there are moments where you see that she actually does have a heart, and one wonders how much of her attitude is due to Flemeth. Try giving Morrigan the Golden Mirror, and she is actually very emotional about it. And as things progress, you see more and more of these things. It's basically because of this softening that the fact that she still carries through with The Plan becomes such a plot hole, because one would expect her to at least start to question what Flemeth had been telling her.

Morrigan is a love, hate thing for me. I love the voice and the fire her character has. But I hate what she stands for most of the time. In the end I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers. lol

Morrigan doesn't care what you think, because she's _the_ Morrigan: http://en.wikipedia....ki/The_Morrígan. Know your party members.
