I'd invite her to parties too :-) and the character reminds me the cliched pretty girl who's so very insecure inside that just feels the need to declare to all the world how super-tough and super-cool she is.

i suspects she plans to keep up with The Plot because she still fears flemeth to be back for her, so better safe than sorry :-)

I understand why people have such deep seated dislike for Morrigan and sometimes don't have the patience to see how the character develops.

I don't understand how people LIKE Sten and have the patience to befriend a child killer. Nevermind that my current PC is a child killer, too, that's not the point.

Ask Sten about his story.  I don't remember it exactly, but basically from what I remember, something forced his hand, he knew it was wrong, and waited at the scene for punishment.

I can understand why people hate Morrigan, but some understanding is needed.  She is a 20 or 30 something who knows nothing about human social life and has been almost deprived of it her entire life, with the exception of talking to Flemeth and likely travelers.  She does adapt eventually though if you have the persistance to talk to her, and gains a sense of normality.

Morrigan i have to admit does sometimes have a good side listen to her when she talks sometimes she does kind of thank you if you helped her or ask about her personal life. I thinks she just had to look out for herself her whole life and has learned to look out for number one only and not to give a damn what anyone thinks.

Oddly I think I would find Morrigan more amusing if she wasn't a love interest.

The thing about her and Alistair is that there are so over-the-top  in their attitude, that when they get serious it kinda spoils the mood.

i found her easy to get along with and not really contradicting at all. people talk about how she wants to free sten but wants to kill all the mages for example. remember she grew up in the wilds, you know the whole nature thing; survival of the fittest. which is why she hates the mages, they have power and yet allow their freedom to be controlled by an outside group over the fear of what they could do. on the other hand she understands that you cannot control every aspect of life, even the most power bear can still step into a leghold trap.

she relates this numerous times, the FIRST job in the wilds is simply to survive. even in the end when she leaves, she does what she thinks needs to be done rather than what she wants. the ends justify the means to her in most ways because that is what she has experienced in the wild. you mission is to kill the archdemon, not help some little town that in the grand scheme of things means very little. think for a moment if this game actually used time, and doing the "right" thing had consequences. going to the mage tower instead of killing conner caused dozens of deaths and suffering while you were gone. would you still do it? morrigan would stab him in his sleep; easy, efficient and risks no other lives. shes very spock like i think. kill conner, dont waste time and risk other lives, dont risk going into the fade where you could fail to accomplish anything; end the threat.

Morrigan is alright for what she is but Shale is awesome. Back on subject, Morrigan can become your friend and I guess a some what good friend to say the least. Morrigan has an interesting story about her but she doesn't rank in my favorite character categories.

The list of epic:

#1: Morrigan...the best written character in the game...

#2: Sten ... He's straight forward...he's totally awesome cause he's like me...why take the long road when you can answer with a simple 3 word sentence?

#3: Shale..."It speaks"...I love Shale...and it's even a chick! A dwarf chick even...and she hates birds...me too...I've chased them since I was able to run...

#4: Oghren...come on...alcoholic berserker dwarf with a talent for saying the wrong thing....how can you hate him?

List of fail:

#1: Alistair...a simple crude joke on the personification of the personality of all blonde wannabe funny jocks out there.

#2: Leliana...She's religious...I can't help but tell her how much religion sucks when I talk with her...the hardest achievement in the game for me....getting Lelianas romance...I'm atheist..must be why...

#3: Dog...simply boring

#4: Wynne ... She reminds me of my evil math teacher who'd preach self taught auto responses like a f ing auto answering machine...god I felt good when I destroyed the Urn of Sacred Ashes, making both her and Leliana attack me...I slaughtered them like Mcdonalds slaughters cows...slowly...and painfully, after giving them a misserably long life filled with pain and despair...god it was awesome...I saved my game at that moment just so I could do it over...andover...and over....

Look, just take Morrigan on a date. Let a demon possess a kid and she will love you for who you are.

No strong feelings on her.

Shes a manipulative witch. She tells you it repeatedly: " Men are willing to believe two things about a woman. First she is weak, second that she finds him attractive" plus when she tells you Dog is trying to manipulate her emotionally "I know. I do it too".

I doubt she expresses a single genuine emotion during the entire game bar perhaps contempt for Alister. Well, contempt for others in general. All those places where she seems to "open up emotionally"?

Yeah, no - thats manipulation. Its maybe two evolutionary levels above Dog giving you that sad face when he wants you to give him something.

Morrigan and my mage have the best time together. Insulting priests, bargaining with demons, murdering elves, destroying the most holy relic those before mentioned priests could ever have, etc.

They'll eventually have some parental problems, though. My mage could see a reincarnated Old God as potentially useful as well!

Morrigan is a blast just to listen to her rip on Allistair and say the things my PC can't say to him.

Yes she's a sociopath but so what, she's an interesting sociopath and she's got some drive and brains going on. Is she trying to manipulate me...sure, that's obvious but I'll go along for the ride because I like that ride.

Plus, who else is going to incincerate a whole roomful of Hurlocks for you after you kill Wynne?

As a player who always chooses a character of 'good' morals (save for the obligatory one-time 'evil' run through to try all the jerk responses), I find myself liking Morrigan despite myself.

Yes, she's self-serving, but she's also interesting, and she has a lively sense of humor. Evil and playful is much more appealing than evil and dour.

I stripped her to her skivvies, sold all her gear and have left her cooling her heels in camp.

Hey Morrigan! See You Next Tuesday!

Hate wow I have seen people that dislike her but not hate.  But I think she is the best character in the game, but not better then Sandal.  I just love the personality they gave her.  Love the witty, saracasm.

Enchantment?

Honestly though, I loved Morrigan.  Characters that get fleshed out like that are the ones I really enjoy.  Yea, Alistar/Shale are fun and such, but they are so flat as characters.  The ones who come across the conflicts, who are making the tough inner-moral decisions, thems I like.  And Sten too for some godawful reason.

Agreed, I really like Morigan, everything about her and what she believes seems so straight forward, but at the same time she is so mysterious.

I am seeing a pattern in here.  The women seem to generally dislike her just as much as the guys like her.  (I suppose it comes down to the old stereotype that guys go for bad girls and girls go for bad guys.)

So, as a guy, I liked her char.  And not just because with my main char as a fellow mage I had two mages with sleep, waking nightmare, blood wound, the walking bombs and heal.

I see her motivation to mostly revolve around getting more powerful.  She also appears to respect those who have it and show strong indepent streaks.  Hence why she has little to no respect for Alistair, who is the senior grey warden and a prince, yet bows to the junior grey warden who in my case was just another mage.  Yet she does have respect for Sten who is powerful, independent and clearly has little respect for you at first.

Over time if you get her approval up her shoulder thaws to you(at least as a female char(rolled for leliana,)) you find out that how flemeth raised her is basically why she is so cold.  (That said, while that gives her some huge issues, it's nothing compared to the train full of baggage lil leliana has.)

Oddly enough the way I played was good(or so I thought) and I'd say Alistair had more issues with me than Morrigan did.

Overall I'd say I was least fond of Zevran and Orgrim(sp?) as characters.  the former for being slimey and smarmy, the latter for being a whiney drunk to bhranka(sp)

Haven't gotten anywhere being Alistair's pal in any game.

You are dead wrong on Leli - i was bored with her in my first play through as a guy who hated religion. Second time, I was a bit more devout and she's got a ton of interest going once you get to know her. She is a lot deeper than the shoes and god thing I thought she had going on.

Wynne is a bit more shallow but does have, again, an interesting story if you can stop being evil long enough to get to it - again I didn't in game one because I was busy annulling the entire circle so stop claiming you are evil if you let her live long enough to get TO the Urn. ;)

That's the beauty of RPGs... where an atheist can pretend to have religion. :)

Morrigan is kind of a hag, but she is immensely more likeable than Alistair. I don't buy his funny guy routine for a moment, that insecure little wimp. Plus he's proven to be a dolt in conversation with Morrigan, and there is simply no room for another ignoramus in the party. Dog and Oghren fill those spots quite well.

Well i have to say that i have taken the advice offered here and rolled a male character, just because i need the witch gone wild achievment, and have used Morrigan more. I still think she is well written and acted, but the **** is ****ing crazy. I have/had a romance with her this current run through and she is quite an emotional train wreck. Any other play throughs once i finish my current male mage will be done with Morrigan as little as possible. She is everything posted in these forums and then some.

My biggest problem is that unless you give her what she want in the end she leaves just when you need her most, so to build and equip her is a waste of time unless you let her spawn some demon child. I am more and more developing the same kind of attitude with Allister as well because in the end he is only interested in revenge on Loghain. When i play this game i RP the character based on its origins and my interpretation of that origin. Looking back on it all i have killed people for getting in my way while i try to stop a blight.

6 playthroughs now and i am starting to drift away from both Morrigan and Allister, to using Sten, Wynne, Leliana almost exclusivly and speccing them to work around the character i play. Those 3 characters will be with you from begining to end unless you do something silly (and you know what that is) you can count on them to be there when you need them. Investing in them for the long haul makes more sence imho because they are straight foward, single minded just as you are, the blight must be stopped, and this emotional sentimentalism has no place, you can complain all you want once the blight is over and those characters seem to grasp this.

I love Morrigan, but she was quickly toppled as the funniest character by Shale.

Which was quickly toppled by the Sten/Dog conversation.

this is exactly what sets this game so far apart (and ahead in my op). some of the characters you may not like, its true, but you dont like them because of their personalities. their personalities are so fleshed out and done exquisitly that you can actually get a since of if you would actually like this person in real life.

i actually know some people like morrigan lol, who will forget any of the little side stuff, very objective.

i like morrigan, her ending with my character baring her child and her wondering in the mountains with child and all that really left a lasting impression on me. well that and when she finally tells you she loves you rright before you both go into denerim to stop the blight.

at first i did think she could be sort of heartless but like some others said i actually had more arguements with alistair then morrigan.

but that could also be because i found myself actually considering her in some of my decisions. immagine that, i was actually thinking about how shed feel about certain things, shes one of the main reasons i decided to invoke the right and kill all of those bloodmages at the top, killing wynn as well.

for me, its like this.

morrigan

sten (he fit in well with me and morrigans no non-sense no side tracking business)

dog (hes not borring to me! hes awsome, like when he brings you that little boy in denerim lol).

ohgran

zevran (hes an assassin, thats cool)

I hate Sten, but I do love some of his dialogue. I also love when Shale comments on his battle prowess and remarks about his "rippling muscles" or some such. "Shale and Sten sittin' in a tree..."
