ME2 also allowed a happy ending if you really, really worked for it, and had more than just different colored explosions for variance.

Really? Despite saving every member of the crew or having them die you still got the exact same cutscene of the Normandy escaping the Collector base and the same scene in the suttle bay of Shepard walking by his remaining crew all dramatically before reading a report while looking out the hole in the Normandy's hull. Did you get a different scene than that?

I would like a bit more hope at the end; a bit more optimism, and not the whole collapse of everything for the sake of Bio setting up a "dark age".

Apparently the OPTION for a happy ending is too cliché and common for some people.

I don't care if it's happy or sad. Just make it make sense and fit within the context of the rest of the game. Had I turned out to be indoctrinated and Garrus had to put one between my eyes to stop me, I'd have been cool with that. Would have made for a hell of a scene.

Key point some people don't seem to realise about a happy ending though is that with a happy ending where Shepard and his crew live, Bioware then has the ability to release DLC for AFTER the war. As in, DLC to help the galaxy clear out the leftovers from Cerberus, taking out gangs and the such that are taking advantage of the situation and so on...as well as more missions for crew members. An open ending (doesn't need to be a completely happy ending though) enables more Mass Effect with the crew we love, for everyone.

I want to see what happens to the people I care about. If my Shepard and LI are alive, then I want to know what happens. Companions that live, I want to know what happens.

After 5 years, countless hours and this being the last we see of the characters - I think we DESERVE to know what happens to them.

(puts on hipster glasses) I support the idea for a happy ending. You probably have never heard of one.

At the end of the day it all comes down to perspective. I thought the ending provided hope for the future; some want to have all the relays and their blue babies but that was never the point of the story.

At the end the Reapers are gone and so is their nefarious technology that made everyone lazy and forced them to develop down a set path. Now the galaxy gets a reset; they are finally free of the Reaper cycle and free to develop technologically in a manner that wasn't just left for them.Shepard freed the galaxy and allowed the survivors to have choice in how they proceeded to develop; something that never could have happened had the Reapers nor the relays been destroyed.

Again, it's all perspective. I'd rather a few billion die in transition then to allow an infinite amount of people die if the Reapers would have been allowed to continue. That's just me, however. I can't argue if you want 'blue babies' ( I might throw up a little but not argue) but the ending came down to choice; giving the galaxy choice instead of them just stagnating because some ancient technology came easy to them.

Good point!  Bioware can make a lot of money an now one has to go for the good ending,no one was forced to go for the good ending in ME2.  Everyone wins.

Hold the line for new endings not extended versions of the endings we have now.

They said there were many different endings for many different people.
And here we are, we have three endings which are quintessentially the same.

Uhh, no.  If anything you had to really, really "work" for the bad ending.  As in knowingly and actively sabotage yourself.  There's nothing difficult about taking paragon charm or renegade intimidate options.

Yes all we are asking for is what we were told would be there in the first place and we are willing to pay for it so how is this bad for Bioware or anyone else?  No one was forced to go for the happy ending in ME2,no one will be forced to get the happy ending in ME3.

Hold the line for as long as it takes to get new endings.

IMO

A fantasy happily ever after ending would totally diminish the power of the world they created. Part of the great thing about Mass Effect and bioware games is that you don't know what's going to happen. You worry about your squad mates as you honestly don't know if they will make it or not. That gives the series emotional power...

If everyone lives happily ever after all the time then it loses its sense of realism and emotional punch. You know everyone is going to be ok so you never get that emotional rush. When I indulge in fiction I want to be on edge all the way up to the end.

It's kind of like A Song of Ice and Fire. Once GRRM starts to kill off main characters every page has you on edge. Every-time someone makes it out of a tight situation you feel elated that they made it. If there is no consequence for any of the your characters it loses that power.

Its the inconsistencies in the ending that bothered me not the bitter-sweet nature of it. There has to be some cost to the war for it to be realistic.

I really like that bioware weren't afraid to say goodbye to characters... It's just the gaping plot holes and that killed it for me.

Did you get a different scene than that?

Plus the 'really, really worked for it' consisted of playing the actual focus of the game, ie the character missions which provided most of the  Big Decision and galaxy developments of the game. Now, while having skippable missions does open up the 'oh, it's optional,' it's optional but in many respects harder to blitz through the game: you have fewer upgrades, less experience, and weaker weapons to fight with, and you get significantly less story to boot.

The closest thing to a Hard Time in getting a 'happy' ending was that you could fail getting Tali, Zaeed, and Thane's loyalty... if you waited out a timer in Thane's, and chose either the blatantly bad option or didn't have the persuasion to choose the caveat option in the other two. Otherwise loyalty was automatic.

Mass Effect 2 didn't reward you for working for a happy ending: Mass Effect 2 rewarded you for being a completionist in actually playing the focus of the game. The most 'extra' work you ever had to do was resource scanning to pay for the ship upgrades.
