Support a happy ending

Frodo/Shepard destroys the ring/reapers. From the battle below, his companions watch as Mount Doom erupts/the Citadel fires off its charge. A moment later their rejoicing turns to dread as they realise Frodo/Shepard is most likely dead. Just as we think it's all over, Gandalf flies over with the eagles/Joker flies in with the Normandy and rescues Frodo/Shepard. Frodo/Shepard awake in a safe place. Their remaining companions/ LI come to visit and congratulate them on their recovery bed.

I put in effort over the course of three games to rally the galaxy and fight off the Reapers.
But in the end you learn they were right all along.

P: a Paragon ending that makes sense :innocent:
N: a neutral ending that makes sense
R: A Pet Reaper fleet, that I can use as I want
Or just 3 flavours of "well I can live with that"B)

Edit: At least as one possible ending, sure there should be more, but a saga like this needs at least one true and full happy end.

I'm glad you brought up this example. To me Lotr is still one of the greatest movie trilogies I've ever watched and it was never a happy story. It was always a desperate fight against Sauron and his forces that outnumbered the 'good guys' at all times. Yet in the end we got a happy ending that did not in any way diminish the rest of the story. I don't see why this shouldn't be an option for Mass Effect.

That doesn't mean the universe has to be bent and twisted out of shape. A happy ending doesn't even mean everything has to be 'okay', like nothing ever went wrong. If the heroes succeed in what they set out to do, even at a high cost, and, hey, maybe even a lot of our personal squad lives, and maybe the half dozen or so relationships out of the entire universe that we actually care about are allowed to continue, that's a happy ending.
Really isn't that unreasonable, particularly in a series that's already made use of 'Character couldn't possibly have survived that - oh wait, look, they did and they're fine' sort of tropes MULTIPLE TIMES.

Thinking on it for a while longer, only being allowed a happy ending could make sense.

Bad ending - middle ending (bad&happy 50%/50%) - happy ending that is all

They already killed Shepard off once, too (I felt jilted with that at the time, never supported bringing a character back to life), so nothing was gained doing it a second time. Although I did appreciate what they were going through. A happy ending after all they'd been through would have just made things better (for one possible ending).

Lets say we get what we want...Shepard lives and rides off into the sunset, love interest by his/her side. How is this still "rainbows and unicorns" or the "Ice Cream" ending that Penny Arcade snidely mocks us with today?
Discounting the Magic Expository Starchild ending and working backward through the series, just from what I can quickly remember, we've got:
- Anderson dying
- Two companions dying on the way to the beam
- Hammer landing fleet dying
- Lots o' ships in orbit dying as you invade
- Citadel taken over by reapers; millions of Citadel civillians turned into Reaper chow.
- Asari homeworld invaded; billions dead.
- Tali possible suicide.
- Either the Quarians or the Geth as an entire race dying if you don't make peace between them.
- Other minor race's homeworlds invaded: Elcor, Volus, etc. Billions dead.
- Samara's daughter dead, possibly Samara herself from suicide.
- Rachni race possibly dead (again).
- Mordin dead.
- Krogan homeworld invaded. Can't say billions dead because there might not be that many, but yeah, they're dying too.
- Grissom Academy kids possibly dead.
- Krogan race going extinct if you don't cure the genophage.
- Thane dead.
- Hundreds if not thousands of Citadel citizens dead in Udina's coup attempt.
- Turian homeworld invaded. Billions dead.
- Earth invaded. Billions dead.
- Entire Batarian Hegemony eaten by Reapers.
- Collector base possibly in the hands of Cerberus
- Zero, a few, or all of your companions dead during the suicide run on the Collector base.
- Normandy crewmembers, liquified and turned into a protein shake for a baby Reaper.
- Human colony of Horizon, taken by Collectors.
- Whole bunch of human colonies throughout the Attican Traverse and Terminus Systems, taken by Collectors.
- The entire Council, possibly dead.
- Whole Human and Turian fleets dead in Sovereign's attack on the Citadel.
- Citadel citizens dead in Saren's attack.
- Eden Prime, victims of Sovereign's first attack.
Yeah, we should have a choice for a "brighter" ending, because the ride up to this point has been pretty damn grim.

I don't either. I thought the game was about to end before the Starkid came into the picture, and I would have been reasonably happy with that, if disappointed to never learn the Reaper's purpose. (Would have been better than what we got, though...)
My complaint about the ending isn't how tragic it is, but rather how senseless + out-of-nowhere it is.
I wouldn't have had anything against some option for a happier ending, but that's not why I disliked the ending.

You forgot all the Cerberus activities? Citadel attack yes, Eden Prime, Jacob's colony thing, Sanctuary (that was a goddamn mess).. the list of crimes against intelligent species is rather long, and one death isn't enough.

KOTOR, Jade Empire, BG2: Throne of Bhaal, ME1 and ME2 all hate evil or good endings. ME3 breaks the mold entirely but having no good/evil endings and simply three bad ones.
100% This , if you work hard across all 3 games to save everyone you can and do all the good choices why you cant have a Happy Ending , its stupid , Choices , they promise us Choices , they promise us 16 endings , one of this endings can be a Happy ending.
But no its more deep and artistic have 3 color choices to kill everyone.
Totally agree

Lucky him. He didn't have to live through the horrible slow extinction the rest of the galaxy did with these endings.

Another "happy ending" if they add new endings is possibility of the reapers not having to be destroyed at all, it would seem they are not the ones calling the shots after all. They might just be the one doing the dirty work.
