I started my playthrough on hard with a rogue now and have a bit of a problem. I am constantly dying. Either alistair or myself keeps dying. We are currently level 6 in lothering. I'm picking locks, pick pocketing, stealth etc. I want to become a dual weapon fighter but only have level 1 combat mastery thus far. Are there any tips ? I don't have lilliana or sten yet.
Party is Morrigan for stun/hex spells
Dog for damage and another aoe stun.
Alistair for tanking.
Myself.
Now the problem is that enemies go either for myself or alistair. The whole lot of them all gang up on me - any ideas on how I can decrease the likelyhood of getting hit ? I'm wearing a set of heavy chain at the moment to help protect against damage. Using lots of poisons.
Help my rogue stay alive.

If you are in lothering, why not GET lilliana or sten? Would likely ease most of your problems if not solve them.

As soon as you leave lothering , go straight to the mage tower and recruit Wynne into your party
Also when Morrigan levels up teach her Heal and be sure to set it into her combat tactics
Problem will be solved after that

To be more specific about the armor thing: enemies tend to be attracted to the biggest set of armor on the field. So putting your character in heavy armor is like putting a bulls-eye on your head.
As for skills and talents, I didn't put a second point in Combat Tactics until after I got all but one of the basic Rogue talents. Dirty Fighting is one of the most powerful talents in the game if you are careful with it. Never put it on auto-cast in your tactics, for one thing. Dirty Fighting + Stealth is a get-out-of-death-free card with the added bonus of providing automatic critical hits if you have Coup-de-Grace. If you have a point in Trap-Making, make some traps. Spring and Claw are really cheap to make, and do wonders for crowd control. Because you've been stuck in Lothering for a while, I assume you know where the enemies are, so just stealth, tell your party to hold position, and walk out to them, setting traps in front of them. Then high-tail it back to your party, set everyone on ranged and blast them. That works out quite well, usually. If you have a point in Poison, put a coating on as well.

Use a bow, pull them to you in small groups. Don't run in a group of archers. If you're still in Lothering you're not supposed to be fighting large groups and survive.
