Hello everyone. As I'm playing through the early portions of DA:O Ultimate Edition, I'm trying to figure out what specialties to give my Sword + Shield Warrior. This is my first time playing through the game so I'm quite curious about what the recommended ones would be. I'm thinking of using Templar, but am not entirely sure of what would truly work best.
For further information my character is a level 8 City Elf Warrior with the following talents:
Shield Bash
Shield Defense
Shield Balance
Shield Block
Powerful
Threaten
Bravery
Precise Striking
and a couple in Dual Weapon, one in archery and zero in two handed.
Skills
2 coercion
1 herbalism
2 combat training
Thanks for any input that is given.

Well Champion is the classic Sword & Shield spec. Largely because S&S-ers are usually tanks. Great if you're always the centre of a fight. The only problem is that if you're at level 8 now it could be a while before you unlock it.
Beserker is typically for warriors who deal out massive damage, though it certainly wouldn't hurt an S&S warrior to have a bit more power behind them - especially if you're keeping your strength high as you should.
Templar is a bit 'meh' until the final talent - Holy Smite which is great, but a near-equivalent can be achieved by mage spells. You very rarely face more than one mage at a time and there are several good spells for single-target lockdown. I rarely go Templar unless for some reason I want to roleplay with no mages in my party.
Reaver is kinda the wild-card warrior spec. It's not too good on any warrior other than a S&S one, but even then opinion is split. You'll be fighting at low health, but a S&S warrior built efficiently should be able to do that without too much trouble. The method of acquiring it also involves making a rather dubious moral choice.
In short I'd recommend Champion and Beserker. That might involve hanging on to your spec point(s) for a while until you unlock them. You can learn either from a book, but you also get companions who will teach you them for free.
Ps. stop putting points in Dual Weapon/Archery/Two-handed trees. Completely. It's a waste. It's Weapon&Shield/Warrior/Specialization trees only from now on!
Pps, I also hope you're not putting points into Constitution. That's another rookie mistake. It's just a waste of points. You should really be aiming for enough dexterity for all your talents and then a nice big strength score. Maybe a little in willpower if you feel the need. And no more Cunning than is needed to max the Coercion skill - if you want to.

Thanks for the input. I am making some very rookie mistakes (I am one, but nonetheless) when it comes to leveling up as I originally had no idea what I was doing (apart from my years of experience with JRPGs, but those didn't help much here...aside from SMT, but that's a different topic) as constitution was one of the primary things I was working on...not a good idea apparently. Also, thanks for the in depth information as it will help me a lot tonight when I can dive back in to the game.

No probs. Beng a bit old now these DA forums are a bit quiet, but there's usually someone around to help if you get stuck or want advice with anything.

Well one upside to points in constitution is that you're less likely to die when you get slammed by the mages in the circle tower questline.
That being said it's a throwaway stat since Dex+Str are WAY more important. If you manage to hit the Defense soft cap (the point where your defense is unbeatable) and you don;t want to pour everything into Str it can be useful to have a little con. But if you do mages tower properly you get all the con you'll need form constitution bonus points.
I personally recommend going a 2:1 STR:Dex split even as a tank warrior. You don't get any threat if you don't hit. Champion+Templar is my personal preference for specs, though Champ+Berserker can be potentially awesome.

Yeah, I've already finished the Circle Tower questline and the Redcliffe questline...currently going after the Urn of Sacred Ashes. Also, I think I did find a vast majority of those constitution points in the tower. Thanks for the suggestions though.
