Do you really think this has something to do with the ending? If people are returning the game on the scale that's being claimed, then then I find that rather unlikely.

Roughly 50% of the people who started Mass Effect 2 finished it. (http://www.destructo...ng-188362.phtml) Bearing in mind that the game has really only been out for about a week now, do you really think that the mass COD game buying public has had the time (or motivation) to get even halfway through the game yet?

And of those casual players that make up a substantial population of the game's players, how many actually care enough to angrily return the game? I'd wager not many. Obviously we're exposed to a lot of negative feedback / spoilers about the game because we've all been on the message boards. Most of the gameplaying public won't have actually done that. Infact, I'm sure most of them (IF they finish the game) will probably be indifferent to the ending. A lot of reviewers even liked the ending, and for the most part their opinions will be representative of the vast majority of gamers who are unbiased and not part of the fandom.

It's more likely that a few people are returning the game, and that this amount has been exaggerated by people who particularly hate the endings.

Whether the ending was (apparently) an insult to the fans is a totally different question.

And anyway, we all still love Back to the Future despite [SPOILERS] Doc's stupid magic flying train and his hypocritical lore contradicting nonsense at the end of part 3, right?

Feel free to refute my claim though.

are you arguing that the rumour might not be true? or trying to indoctrinate us away from our ending-hate? which is it?

I'm suggesting that the rumour might be exaggerated because of people wanting to believe it as a result of being indoctrinated by ending-hate.

Although I'm open to being reverse indocrinated with evidence to support the rumour.

I heard the same crap about Halo Reach, Gears 3, MW3, MW2, Black Ops, every game in existence, and it simply is not true to the extent of your claim. All those games are still going strong. Same will go for ME3.

If this happens widespread we may not get a new ending but the next time a game developer tries to be "artistic" they may put a little more thought into it.

Or just give you the regular "and the hero kicked the villain's *** and all was good and shiny" end like every other video games.

Not saying that BW was original, these endings were already done in Deus Ex, but it's still pretty rare and certainly more interesting than an Independence Day movie ending.

I still don't get how people have such vitriol towards this game. The game is awesome except for the end. Much better then many other games I have bought. Why should I try to punish companies that make good games? I guess people really think they are the only thing thta matters it this world.

Would I return it? Well, im not really compelled to do so.  Not unless I knew that the ending wasn't going to be changed, but its not a big boost, maybe 10%?  Gas, time, exc. Plus, when you leave the ending out, it was a good game. I guess the only thing I'll do is keep it as a reminder that this world is flawed. When my time comes naturally, I will be able to envision Mass Effect as I want to.

Returning to a store is irrelevant, it is not like you are taking biowares money.

I am sorry to point this out, but I must.

The used copy for consoles is down to what 42 dollars. These are most like new copies. the new version is still up at 60 dollars. Now a lot of people who buy the game will have the option to save 18 dollars on the game if they go with the used copy. Now here is where it cost bioware money. They don't make money off of used games, so for every game returned. that is a chance that someone will buy the used copy and Bioware / EA will not see any more money from that copy. ( unless they buy DLC, but that is a different animal )

People shouldn't be so hasty to give it back, this game has still got many hours of fun in it for me... Although if the "The Truth" thing isn't real or something similar.  I will be very disappointed.

I almost wanted to return mine. But I keep getting reminded of what happened when I got ME3 in the first place. I didn't pre order at Gamestop. So when I went there to get the game the guy at the register told me to hold on a second. He reprinted my receipt and gave me the DLC armor and weapons for free. All the stuff leading up to the end was great. If I do play it again, and I'm trying slowly but surely. I'd just play up until the point of no return. Then maybe just play multiplayer.

it won't last long, it's a broken game....

I'm so happy to see this news. If it is true, then the ending sucks is a generalized opinion, and Bioware would definitely do something. Otherwise, they will suffer from the huge sale loss.

Same here in Delaware and I ams eeing a lot on Amazon.  Hopefully word will get back to EA.  The few people who keep the game the fewer people will be paying for DLc and that is lost money for them.

It's a little early to tell but this could turn out to be the biggest backlash on gamers part since Atari put out all those rushed games in the early 80s.

Zomg, Delaware represent!

I think many of us new this would happen. Myself I have the PC CE so return is not an option for me. But the ending does ruin the entire series for many, and for the first time you see people showing how they really feel by taking this game back so soon after release. I don't think I've seen a game go from being so anticapated to dropping  through the floor in user reviews and return to retail stores so fast.

I think it should show Bioware that this is not just a small percentage that are unhappy it is a large population of those that purchased the game that are unhappy. There are some like myself and other that will voice their opinion online, and with their pocket book, or organize a retake ME3 facebook page, and then their will be others that may not go to forums and such, that will just return their game for trade, and just wont buy anything from Bioware again.

Needless to say the PR nightmare Bioware is facing is not a pretty one.

if you want your voice heard louder got to my blog which I have a link too in my Sig , click on my ME3 review and click on the links to my polls.

1. would you Boycott Bioware if they don't fix the endings
2. do you believe Multiplayer should have no impact on the single player campaign
3. Facebook Campaign demand better endings for ME3

Bottom line, this is not good for EA. Their stock dropped today based on lack of sales from some ski game and slow sign-ups for their online Star Wars game according to a stock alert I received. It didn't even mention ME3 and all the flak that is going on about that new release. On the other hand, when it drops to $15.00 a share it would be a bargain price to get in.

I'm not returning mine. It was still 99% perfect. I just want them to understand that it always was and always will be about the characters, not about choosing red, green, or blue...

I wonder how long it will take the internet to make articles about ea's stocks suddenly dropping.

It's not "suddenly dropping, that graph shows from Jan last year**... if you look at it over the in the last month, it actually rose a little from a steady stream of decline... probably co-inciding with the ME3 release (From 6th of March to 9th* of March is a 90c rise... and while there is another trough on the other side of it, until we can see the next few months (no one here has a time machine, right?) we can't infer from that graph that EA's stock has dropped because of ME3... if anything, it has shown a small rise since ME3 was released.

That is in no way inferring my opinion on the quality of the game, it's just I hate seeing people make inferences from data that is just not there.

Edit:
* Hurfdurf I thought I had a time machine, but I rly meant 9th, not 19th...
** Also corrected dates...

I didn't see any marked down copies at a GameStop or a Best Buy. I saw one used one at the GameStop, but that was about it.
