It's just KoTOR2 all over again. Shame it had to happen to Mass Effect, but we can't pretend Bioware hasn't been slowly spiraling downwards since ME1. It's apparent in all of their recent games.

KOTOR2 was not worked on by BioWare. Obsidian Entertainment worked on this. Their track record for stellar products is less than established.

Your other point may still stand, I just had to correct the record.

Oh God, leapingmonkeys. MOO3. What a way to devastate a franchise.

Some great stories all around. It's funny how often this cycle repeats itself, even though it's common knowledge. Something must happen as a company grows to make them somehow blind to this phenomenon.

Is this what happened here? Hard to say for sure, but it's certainly feasible.

CD Projekt has been awesome with the way they treat their fans and their properties.

I would also still count Bethesda as being one of the good ones, especially after just a couple months giving the fans everything they could possibly want to mod Skyrim to their hearts content.

Beyond those two though...yeah i can't even think of any game studios that I have real respect for. Bioware used to be the other...

My favorite part is where they've added several new features to the Witcher 2 (and are planning a massive addition with the xbox release). Oh, and they're FREE DLC.

Can you imagine how great it'd be to mod ME3? As in, if Bioware won't make a new ending we'll make a good one ourselves.

It's brilliant, Bioware had a story leak, they still wanted to floor the audience with an epic ending, but they were still under EA's control, so they came up with the idea for two endings, one fake one, and a real one to be released later, all while throwing in an epic twist.

I would have contempt too when so many people call themselves "fans" and don't see the glaring clues that were present since ME1.

I'm not surprised the game industry keeps dumbing themselves down....

I really think if they just fessed up and fixed it they would solidify a lot of fans' loyalties.
I know for me personally, all would be forgiven.

The OP is one smart Asari (like my Liara). I really hope Bioware isnt becoming like this. The way they handled the Deception controversy gives me some hope.

Money equals power, they're gonna get cocky, "not everyone is altrustic like Gabe Newell"

but this is the fastest selling ME game ever, and all they here from us is "we want more", sorry but they were planning for it to go like this for a long time...

I support the indoctrination theory.

I agree, but not just for Bioware. This needs to be posted somewhere else as well, so more people can see it.

EVERYTHING would be forgiven in the blink of an eye.  No hard feelings, no hostility, and I will happily and competently purchase every bit of dlc they make for this game and gladly buy whatever next game they put out and gladly renew my swtor account, and gladly resume my years of eagerly following their every announcement of whats to come.

I am a very forgiving person, a week ago they we're my favorite developer ever, three days ago they lost it, but they have a chance to earn it back.  For me and for many more of us.  I hope, no I BEG them to take this chance.  I really do.

i agree to this post, after all we have seen a lot of companies and not just ones creating games falling just because they thought their product was the best and anyone who does not understand that is a moron. Its not a good business to keep doing the same stuff even as the consumer tells you they dont like it.

I really identify with this post and the OP, myself being a 31 year old female that lives in a major metropolitan area with my SO, not a typical gamer, never felt compelled to join a game related forum or comment on these kind of matters...AND I work in a creative field where I've definitely seen ego and attitude get in the way of product/doing the best possible job that strikes a balance between your satisfaction and client satisfaction. Just wanted to chime in and add my support!

Nice read but they will not listen. If they even read it they are probably like "our situation is different, we are nothing like that". Sadly to get arrogance out of people they need to fall flat on their face in the dirt. And then, with dirt in their face and nothing left of the former glory they come crawling back to the people that made them big and only then they show humility. You can't expect anyone on the peak of his/her power to reflect and admit mistakes. Success is all justification they need.

So ... I would almost bet money that we will see Bioware fall. Not today, not tomorrow. But in a couple of years when no money is left to make proper games even if they wanted. But actually since they are EA now I guess they will shut down anyway before they stop making profit.

That would be awesome in theory but I think that wouldn't really be possible. Bethesda can just release the creation kit and let the modders run free because Skryim is by FAR about gameplay, exploration and just experiencing the world.

Mass Effect on the other hand, is less about gameplay than about stories and narratives. To do that really well in keeping with the ME games (sans ending), not having the voice actors and other unavailable resources would nerf the possibilities severely compared to what you can do in Skyrim in my opinion.

And besides adding the new xbox content to PC gamers for free, CD Projeckt also managed to in their ending tie up your many quest choices and fill in the blanks at the end (of course, it was also a cliff-hanger to a third but I don't see that as a bad thing at this point), which goes to show that doing the same thing in ME3 would NOT have been that hard conceptually.

Oh and I left out Valve in my original list...although they release games so rarely I can forgive myself for forgetting they are actually a game company sometimes

I always appreciate great comments from another professional in the industry. After my experience in the creative industry I was so disheartened that I ended up going into the HVAC design business which is much cruder but has a lot less ego. The irony now that I have posted this is that last month I was headhunted by another 'creative IP' company and given a killer offer...I start there next Monday (just can't stay away I guess).

Bioware, I see some of the same attitudes in you as expressed through
how this controversy is being handled and I emplore you to be humble and
'do the right thing' and listen to your fans.

...continue? Which is?

OP, you make better points than most I've seen. The correct thinking process for any company that sells anything is to take into account their customer's feedback, and take that into account for their *next* product.

A company that says: OK, we were wrong from the get go, just forget what we did and we'll retcon the whole story... I don't think I've seen that outside of the comic book industry.

Just be realistic in what you expect from Bioware or you're in for more disappointment.
