So well stated. That's a major part of it for me, I'm disgusted with the ending but even more so with their apparent arrogance and lack of concern for their customers. I really do get the impression that they feel like i'm not clever enough to understand their grand artistic vision. They have set themselves above me and it makes it impossible for me to beleive they relate to me or care about me and in return that makes me unwilling to ever give them money again.

Bioware, I see some of the same attitudes in you as expressed through
how this controversy is being handled and I emplore you to be humble and
'do the right thing' and listen to your fans.

...continue? Which is?

Well I wanted to leave it to them, I'm not a long-term relations manager for Bioware but my instinct and experience in the entertainment industry tells me that a humble official statement indicating that those who are displeased have been heard, that the company always wants to provide them with the entertainment and experiences they are looking for and that they will take x amount of time to consider what is being said and present their course within x days/weeks/months.

That being said what they should do is up to them, I can't see their books, their budgets or their general ledger so I don't know how feasable a 'redo' is financially for them. They would most likely have to do a CBA and see if they can make the numbers work, taking into account the costs of such a project versus what would/could be lost if they didn't act. My argument here is more about simply trying to engage their customer base and tell them that the request for something more/extra/different in ME3 has been heard and taken to heart.

I may be entirely wrong here but in my experience if a very large official forum explodes with a single, almost-unanimous (70%+) opinion that the product delivered was not up to expectations then I would conclude that (a) the opinion is not just a few 'fanboys' you can't please anyways, (B) we either did a poor job controlling customer expectations (which, based on the qualtity of the entire game up to that point exceeded my own expectations) and © there was a genuine failing in the product that needs to be addressed in some way.

One thing, stop tacking "gate" to the end of everything.

Aside from that, dead on.

It is common and accepted American nomenclature now, it was such a historicly big deal that destroyed confidence in an office that it has become part of our every day language for events like this.

But that's the History major in me maybe. XD

The sad thing is i always thought these were the things you were supposed to do, at least that's how I was raised and what I learned from family working retail. It also was what all of us wanted in art school when we wanted to work for game companies. Ego tends to ruin all businesses big and small.

Yeah, end-o-phage sounds better anyway. :D
As for the OP: Pinpoint.

I hope Bioware reads this and takes it to heart because otherwise they're ignoring their future. Hold the line.

I remember when Kotor was released. A lot of money earned, and respect from everyone. Kotor 2 was planned, but BW choosed to work on Jade Empire instead. It was obvious Jade Empire will have far less market impact than a Kotor 2, but they still did it, and left Kotor 2 for obsidian.
Jade Empire was a great game. An ovni, but a masterwork IMO. They earned less cash they would have earn with a Kotor 2, but it didn't matter. BW choose the creation work instead of money. They choose the love of making something great instead of the love of making money. They earn a lot of respect from me, and probably from more people.
BW used to listen the community, and makes a lot of discussion, about how they did the game, the jokes inside the studio, what they should change/add for the next game....

Can you say they still do the same today ? Check DA2, or the DLC... Check the silence around ME3 ending drama....

I don't know if they are planning something big, something either the most brilliant or stupid idea never seen in the videogame industry, or if they just loose the love for a good game for the love of money.

I was told the same thing. You'd think that if you had a company with a product you wanted to sell, you'd try to apeal to the customer. If you say something, you follow through with it, regardless if it ends up costing you.

Nice post, I agree with you, from the outside looking inward the decision makers at BW or EA or both seem to forget how they got to where they are (success does that too much)  and perhaps forget who are funding thier business.

When sales slow down people lose jobs, bonus pay and promotions but maybe they already cahed thier chips in and dont care.

Maybe we put a dent in the bottom line over time, should they not make this right, but my feeling is alot of people are not going to buy "stuff" that they would have, had BW/EA crafted an ending fitting of this great game and thier customers.

Everything was so good up until that beam......

@OP

Thank you very much for posting. I have seen things here and there and currently run this and that, whatever. What you say is very true, those things can and do happen and results can be disastrous.

I hope EA would consider what you wrote, though I don't see it happening. People in the top positions are already paid well enough that even if EA would drop dead tomorrow, it wouldn't really matter for them.

That said, not every company is a huge corporation and people can and hope will learn from what you wrote. If you check few things from EA/BioWare's past, I think with your experience you can spot few things that were pretty telling.

What comes to ME3 ending, there has been writing on the wall since ME2, but I was surprised how managed to drop the ball in the end like that. It's a pity, really. 90% of ME3 is really great.
