Should Emily Wong been given the role that Jessica Chobot was given in ME3?

Now if Wong would have asked, I'd let her right on board.

I am bored, so I am going to necro this thread.
So yeah, should the role that Jessica Chobot played in ME3 been for Emily Wong instead of killing her off on twitter?

Emily Wong might be more popular, but I think Khalisah al-Jilani would have been a better choice. It would provide an opportunity for a potential redemption arc with a character that mostly acted hostile to Shepard in the first two games. I think that would have been more interesting than anything they could have done with Emily Wong.
I think Emily Wong's death was an interesting idea, and in the run up to release people were really into the stories that led to her death. Disappointment really only set in after it didn't happen in the game and wasn't referenced. I think when the Twitter stuff was going on people assumed it was mirroring stuff that happened in the game.

Why does she need to be redeemed? She's pro-Human, but in a fairly grounded way. Nothing she does is unreasonable. It's not like she's Cerberus. She pokes fun at any Shepard who is potentially infatuated with aliens. She fears humans will get sold out in the process. Which they will, if you're a Paragon. They're the ones who will throw Alliance soldiers under the bus, for some retarded Star-Treky Council ideal, when all the time these people ( the Asari leadership specifically) are just conning everyone in the end.
I'm glad she keeps it real even up to ME3. She's still pro-human. And still knows the Council will jerk people around.

Redeemed in the sense that she'd be giving Shepard & the Normandy favorable coverage for once. In the first two games she was mostly trying to goad Shepard into making a fool of himself on the air.

OK, that's fair. But I think she has a right to worry in those earlier periods. Shepard is an unknown. A rather frightening one, in some respects.

i dont get why people care so much about this? wong wasn't even a good reporter in ME1, you had to do her job for her lol
Wong was an established character in the lore who practically had this role setup for her in ME3. Chobit is just some random jamoke employee from a website that is the epitome of nearly all that is wrong in gaming these days.

Well, I don't really like Allers at all, not enough interactions there.
But, just like we can choose between Chakwas or Michel for the med-bay, I think the devs should had given us an option too between Allers, Wong and Al-Jilani.
On that note, I picked Chloe Michel the last time around because some say she has more dialogue than Chakwas... well, I'm not picking Michel ever again. Nothing happened, there wasn't much dialogue at all, and I didn't even get to see Garrus being gifted with Turian chocolate like I thought I would see. Plus, it was heartbreaking seeing Chakwas' puppy face when I denied her the spot.

Michel is good if you plan on doing New Game+. This way you get both types of medical upgrades.
Sexy voice too.

Yeah, of course. Bioware artificially stuffed an internet-celebrity into their game. It so gimmicky and unnecessary. I still don't understand what the hell they thought they were doing. Give her an opportunity because she's a fan? I mean, aren't we all? I'm sure I've played thousands more hours of ME than she has, so why does she get some special treatment? Did they think she would create some positive publicity for ME3? That is silly, there is no way her presence boosted any sales or marketing for ME3.
Oh man, to this day, I will never understand this shitty design choice.
If ME3 devs had been smart, they would have given Shep the choice between recruiting Emily Wong or Khalisah al-Jilani. You know, choices, like in a roleplaying game.

Yeah, Chloe is sexy lol. But really ? I'm about to delete my last playthrough's saves because I didn't upgrade every weapon. Upgrading all of them means a lot of time spent in the arena to fork lots of money. lol (and all that money has to be earned before Priority: Cerberus H.Q.). So that's gonna be a very long halt on the story's progress. Maybe I should pick Chloe one more time next time I play then, and then Chakwas on a NG+. We'll see, but I don't know. I think I'm gonna give up on trying Insanity on 2 and 3 as well, or I'll get sick of the games. It's best to play them when I just want to relive the story, rather than rush things up because of an impossible trophy.

Yeah, I can understand getting frustrated on insanity for ME2, but ME3 is a little easier. Or gets easier after the midway point or so. Especially if you waited for that second playthrough and had weapons upgraded to X.

Mass Effect suffered from small universe syndrome with the cameos so I would prefer a new character.

I think I've been playing only ME since March, or February even. ME1 is the one that was the most boring. I repeated it a lot for platinum, it was over 200 hours in it I think. I don't think I'll bother with a level 60 import anymore (yeah, deleted my saves... there was a bug with Nassana's quest, so I didn't keep the savefile). I think a level 50 import is good enough, it's a shame I'll have to waste points on charisma though, unless I replay it over and over again to get the free points.
As for ME2, I have beaten Garrus' recruitment and Mordin's recruitment thus far, and I'm at Okeer's... but Insanity is just too difficult. After beating Bioshock 1 and Infinite and getting their platinums, I thought ME2 was gonna be a walk in the park, but nope.
Even though I just have beaten the whole trilogy for the second time around since last Christmas (when I bought them), I'm already thinking about restarting lol I love ME.

I agree about the small universe, but this is an instance where that tightness actually makes sense, given the rapport with Wong and the significance/trust of the onboard reporter role.
Ultimate answer: Yes, but I would have been perfectly fine with Allers (and Chobot) had she actually reflected her VA's onscreen energy and worn some of the more conservative attire available in the MEU. It'd be kinda nice if they threw an alternate outfit on her for the remaster.

Don't feel bad. I had ME2 for years, and only just recently beat Insanity. I tried it a few times over the years and it always pissed me off.

I prefer the role Emily Wong got, given it engrossed people pre-launch and the fact it was mentioned very little in game was disappointing.
I have no idea who that Allers person was, but I let them on board The Love Boat The Normandy simply because I never turn down anyone who wants to join the crew.
But then I learned she set up shop in Zaeed's room. This pissed me off, so I kicked her out.

Yeah, it was really something. I remember that. I was on BSN in one window, and Twitter in the other window. It went on for like 9 hours. Wong got far more story time than me1 and me2 combined. It was good. 9 hours, or so, of a twitter story. Then add on top of that this ginormous....Twitter role playing thing that organically happened with the fans.
It was actually a great experience. I thought so. And Emily went out like a Boss.
*singletear*
Ultimately, I would have preferred Wong or Khalisah, but....that's the way it goes. Chobot got so much hate for that shyte. If anyone deserved a firmly worded email/tweet, it was EA marketing. Not chobot. She did not desrve that.

Khalisah al-Jilani would've been my choice to replace Allers, not Wong. Wong had an excellent sending-off with the whole #solcomms thing.
