Is there a reason why stamina doesn't regenerate out of combat?

So, this is my first time playing a warrior.  I'm still at the beginning part of the game where you have to fight and kill an ogre at the top of the Tower of Ishal to light the beacon.  And every time the fight starts, I barely have any stamina, which means ALL of my abilities are greyed out because I don't have any stamina.  Needless to say I've wiped eight times and counting so far.

Does this have something to do with fatigue?  If so, then holy crap, what a horribly broken mechanic.  No wonder people are complaining about melee characters in the game.  I played through the first time as a mage and was able to beat it.

Are melee really so horrifyingly gimped?  I mean, seriously???

Hmmm, no it should regen just fine out of combat, you have some kind of problem. Do you have any sustained abilities on ? Any injuries ?

How many buffs are you keeping up? If you have too many buffs, you won't have any stamina left to use activated abilities.

Also, make sure you pick up the talent "Powerful" from the warrior tree, it reduces fatigue so the heavy/massive armor fatigue cost isn't unreasonable.

Same fight. Plenty Stamina left and used here. Did you have it at 100% when you went upstairs?

Powerful is not available that early is it? oh yes, it might be. Anyway, I go for Indomitable and Critical first.

Let me guess, you're running a 2H warrior. You have Powerful Strikes (awful), Indomitable (good), and Precise Striking (good) on? Yeah, this would explain why you have no stamina.

Modal buffs are a poorly implemented mechanic, in my opinion. The concept is interesting ("choose between activated abilities or sustained buffs") but, in practice, you pretty much just leave them all on. It's really tedious turning them off, letting stam recharge, using abilities in battle, and then turning them back on. I'd rather they be free - or at least the crappier ones be free. As it is, they serve only to further punish melee classes in an already mage-friendly game.

I agree with this, they all already have drawbacks to using them (more damage but less attack, etc) they should use that to balance them.

the problem is that you can realy gimp yourself if you are not carefull.

If you want to use your ability's you have to put more stats into willpower

I agree with basically everyone! lol. We really need stamina potions I know Momentum burns stamina very quickly but I have +50 thanks to my armor & I can still only use 2 abilities before I am drained. Oh well still get awesome DPS!!!!!!!!!!

I personally don't have much of a problem with the "sustained" abilities. Just keep the ones that 'cast' quickly off and you end up being able to cause lots of havok with your other abilities before needed to activate them.

The sustained abilites don't cost anything to use them unless your stamina is full. There are some great abilites that keep your characters doing good damage after you've used up all your stamina
