They both fill the "Marksman" role with the Vindicator's advantages being its light weight and slightly higher ROF/three-round burst, against the Valk's stronger punch and better accuracy.

But I will admit that I've developed a liking for the Phaeston and M55 Argus.

I actually agree. I kinda love the Avenger, which is wierd because I loathed it in 2. But with an ammo upgrade (over the barrell or with barrell + it) it is really strong. It was my rifle on my insanity playthrough as an infiltrator. Super lightweight, super fast reload, puts out a hail of gunfire...I adore it.HTTP 404 wrote...
overall the avenger....its good for any situation but probably
exactly, I never used it in me2 but I feel that it has been beefed up this time around. It is extremely accurate and has High rate of fire. Couple that with say, armor piercing it can chew up a guardian without aiming for the mail-slot. Best overall gun you can use up close and pick people off. But it may not be the best at up close nor far but it can do both very well.
I think its underrated because its the "default" weapon. Its not exotic, its simple and does the job.

I bought the collector's edition and I feel like I got every single N7 weapon except the assault rifle...Doofe2012 wrote...
The N7 Valkyrie served me well throughout the whole game as my only weapon for a Vanguard.

What level of Cryo ammo are you using on the Chakram launcher? I tried it with level 2 or 3 Cryo and didn't see it even freeze anyone so ditched it (plus I couldn't hit the side of a barn with it). And anyone tried Cryo on the Particle Rifle...wonder how that might work...jeremy wrote...
m-76 revenant combos VERY well with marksman. falcon and chakram launcher combo incredibly well with ammo powers, especially cryo ammo for cc and power explosions. other than that i found assault rifles to be surprisingly weak. generally much too heavy for the firepower.

Yeah, I tried it on the N7 mission where you meet Jacob. Mostly on the AA gun section, but couldn't get it to work. Didn't seem to freeze anyone quickly enough or do enough damage. Ended up having to switch back to the Valiant and pull a RSLG move to get some distance. Still not seeing what use Cryo is unless you have a biotic class.glitter_guld wrote...
Did you try both, overcharge chakram and shoot fast shots? It works in two modes.

Hmmm ok, but what to avoid putting points in then to free up the space? Are people not taking Frag grenade or Concussive shot then? (at the risk of derailing this thread further...)HolyAvenger wrote...

I even abandoned my sniper rifle for the Mattock after i unlocked the scope on it.
Mattock with Scope is just so powerful.
Finished the game playing my infiltrator with only the Mattock equipped (getting +185% power recharge), with scope and extended mags, the clicking makes the fighting much more intense, and gives you more control over the recoil then automatic guns would have

Found CS to be spectacularly useless. Took carnage as the bonus power for extra armour damage. Frag grenade is vital imo.
