It's a secret passage built for nobility, not a cheese cellar door.

but maybe it was a secret cheese cellar door!

but to TCG, how would you even know it lead to the castle? without "wasting" time exploring. which would probably take you all day anyway, by which point why not just defend the village and weaken the castles defences?

Either way, it's made of wood.

So was the Phylactery chamber door in the mage origin.
Do you even have a point anymore or are you just grasping at straws?

Why do some people say Morrigan has baggage?

This may not be a case of bad writing just a lack of choice. There is no real way you can arrive at redcliffe and not end up either annoying morrigan or being amazingly evil. All they had to do was make some way of convincing teagan to tell you about the secret way into the castle or convince him to storm the castle now or maybe even something completly different. The way morrigan reacts does follow her personality and is understandable, this is just quite a linear part of the game. and yes i do know you can just walk away but thats not really much of a choice is it.

Yes, but the lack of options IS bad writing.

Actually, she seems rather to actively kill people she doesn't like.

Hmm i can't really recall a single instance of that. Especially snce it's the player's character and not her making the calls, she just tends to react to them with commentary?

There's that trolling again.  It really does get you nowhere.

Because by the time you explored it out, you can find out the problem and end Connor in a matter of minutes.

he explains that assaulting the castle directly isn't a good plan, and every attempt theyve made so far has failed.

again all he has left at this point is people fighting to defend their homes, not soldiers. he has 4 knights, which... well wouldn't help much vs 200 undead soldiers and a demon who can control people.

I don't really get this complaining about Morrigan's complaining. Yes, some of it seems inappropriate and wrong, but it's fairly inconsequential. You have plenty of opportunities to increase your influence with her.

And she isn't all uncaring. She just doesn't care for strangers. But if you talk to her and build a relationship with her (be it friendship or romance), she eventually has some nice things to say about you at certain occasions. And she admits that it doesn't come easy to her because she never learned how to really interact with people.

Eh, it seems more like they wanted to have you play through the undead attack and then avoid writing a bunch of new options when you encounter Connor.  There are a lot of ways it could have turned out, and the village saving just came out as a less important plot element.  Pity.

Well maybe not, the writing itself of morrigans character does agree with the way she reacts to what you do. The lack of choice maybe down to another department or maybe not bad writing but simply a lack of writing.

ok, so you get to connor, the village is destroyed, you kill him, thus making isolde and the arl hate you... and not willing to help your cause because theyve lost everything close to them. you've just wasted a day and havent gained a thing.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Stop picking ideas out of thin air to justify Morrigan's impatience and stupidity then maybe you can talk about trolling.

Why wouldn't they want to help you then if they are willing to do it when you just leave?

In short: No.

The writing is excellent, you should consider that Morrigan isn't a character that was put in the game to give you warm fuzzies, often holds a viewpoint that "civilized" folk consider abhorrent, and that losing a little approval rating with a character here and there is to be expected.

Do you honestly believe that everyone you know approves of all the decisions you make day to day? I'm sure you've worn a hat that's affected others opinion of you in real life as strongly as that -5 for saving Redcliffe affected Morrigan and your playthrough :P

Hell, shes three times as annoyed at you when you refuse to sleep with her.

You don't resent at all the fact that she could have disclosed...at any point...what her mission was, so that maybe...you'd be better prepared for the archdemon battle?  Not a problem?  Couldn't have shared that bit of information somewhere earlier in the game and then said "Oooh, Alistair, let's make Loghain a Grey Warden and then have him kill the Archdemon for us.  Ready?  Break!  Go team!"

She is NOT helpful.  She's vulnerable and charming in her Morrigan way, but had she shared anything she knew early on, everyone could have gone home happy.  And alive.  At least for a while.

Losing the village?  Really, that would put him over the top?  It's a necessary expedient from some points of view, and you had no idea it would take so long to get into the castle.  If Arl Eamon really doesn't want to help your war effort, you don't need him.  He is a small power militarily, anyways.

However, if you want to pursue this path, it creates an inordinate amount of writing and development later on.  Railing it is fine.

There's a difference between a harsh and abhorrent world view, and being deliberately naive and stupid.

Whether or not Morrigan is a bad person is irrelevant. Bad people I can stand. Stupid people I cannot.

yes, remember Flemeth wants a new host, not a rival, Morrigan was raised to be that host.

By that logic why teach her anything at all?

because as Morrigan finds in the journal, the stronger magically the new host is, the easier it is for Flemeth to settle in, so to speak,  everything Morrigan has been taught it exactly what Flemeth wants her to know

Well, she WANTS the mages dead. You have to clear the tower anyway, but she is angry if you don't actively chose the option to kill them. She is happy when you take the most agressive options, even if it's not the most efficient. That's more than simply indifference to others, that's actively wishing them harm.

Your explanation about how she's resentful of you helping other out of petty bitterness is actually the first consistent thing that could explain her behaviour, and it actually ends up in "I want to see those fools suffer !" just because she's mean and petty. Quite the chaotic evil stupid.

This coming from the guy who advocates omnisciently finding the secret passage into the castle and being able to lockpick/break a door designed to only be opened by one noble family so it couldn't possibly be reinforced or magically warded or anything.

You assume and assume and assume.  I prefer discovery, but I know the limits of discovery are fairly close in a story-driven RPG.

Again, log off and chill out.
