There are so many well worded expressions of the disappointment I feel on these forums. But none say it as well as the one line at the end of that PA posting.
"She might as well be anyone. And that's the thing that nobody wanted said about their Shepard."
Absolutely.

Very good and thorough read. I don't agree 100%, but I do agree with the highlights, and it's well expressed.

Simply amazing and well put, I laughed hard at "And then the phone rings" Shepard's last struggle turns into a circus after that last moment of sanity.

Well said. More people should read this post! Not just skim, READ IT, especially Bioware.

This is a great post and sums up the problems I have with ME3's ending.
I have not played any game since I finished ME3, it has soured me on video games period. I hope that changes in time.

That turn of phrase was perfect. Everyone can relate to Shepard's "aw nuts" moment right then!

You know what, this is the best put argument for why the endings don't work. It explains it without using circumstantial examples like the normandy crash, or the relays blowing up, or the starchild, it explains what's wrong on the fundamental level of it.
I didn't mind the endings, they served their purpose of ending shepards story, but I think he is right about why the endings weren't great, but only okay. Well put, and I really hope more people see this.

Such a clever explanation of why the Mass Effect ending was extremely disappointing and fell so utterly flat. Well done!

I suppose a question or point is whether or not Shepard should have made the jump from stand-in to character. Shepard had always been nebulous and Bioware had always struggled with his/her definition. In one way, there are enough choices to say the morality, appearance, and outcomes that Shepard becomes an RPG stand-in for the player. Yet, Bioware had affirmed they wished Shepard to be a character (the gay romance issue comes to mind when they defended the lack of such options initially as Shepard being a character they wanted to portray).
Personally, thinking about it, Shepard having failed his/her mission and died quietly with Anderson would still be a better conclusion (though leaving much unresolved) than the insane circus that was the Starchild.

Thank you for sharing/bumping this, agree with most of the comments here. Distilled the very essence of why the endings are inadequate.
