I like him. And I was ready to hate him too, because his intro is just really weak. He's just "there" from the beginning acting all familiar with Shepard and I was like "Thank you, person I don't know. But why are you here?" I thought he must be the new Jacob.
Fortunately I was wrong and he actually has a personality, consisting mostly of putting his foot in his mouth and saying the wrong things to people. Which can be quite funny. He also gives everyone nicknames they don't like :P
He's basically a nice guy that goes along for the ride, and sees Shepard as a mentor of sorts. If you can forgive the horrible writing at the start ("This is LOCO") he might surprise you. His voice actor did a great job, whoever it is.

I loved Vega. I loved his reactions to things that to Shepard or Garrus was old news. Besides that, he murders everything that moves. I can't remember one time that I had to waste medi-gel on him, unlike Liara's, pretty, non-fighting, ass. I also like the dichotomy between him, a grunt- an awesome grunt, by still a grunt, and Shepard: the larger-than-life hero of the galaxy. I like how Vega showed that Shep was a tad out of touch at times with the common soldier, even though he didn't mean to be. It humanized Shepard a lot.

The sparring dialogue near the beginning made me instantly aware, that this is my favorite crewmember.
I thought that Shepard needs another human soldier in his crew, someone who could relate more to him and who understands his motivation and i sure as hell felt awesome when Shepard paid a round for the common soldiers at the club and when i hit the paragon trigger, ending in Vega congratulating me on knowing that.
Great writing on this one.

As I suspected, it was the renegade trigger for me.

No wonder I hardly saw any paragon interrupts, ME3 actually changes some triggers depending on your morality.

And I agree, Vega was surprisingly likeable. I like that he keeps calling my femShep Lola, and he's really funny too.

It took them three games to get it right, but finally in ME3 Bioware have made the "generic male dude" actually interesting - he's a pretty cool character I think; I can see why people would dislike Vega though, the whole hulking tank and inventing a name for Shepard, plus the fact that you have heavyweights like Garrus and Tali who people love and Vega's just a speck of dust against them.

He had me the moment he crashed the shuttle into Eva Core's on the moon.

It's a pity I couldn't get more use out of him in missions. Wanted to, but the familiar faces always outshone the newbies for me. Shame really.

He reminds me that Shepard is very vulnerable in this game because who will rebuild Shep if he/she dies again?  There's a torch to be passed on to another generation just as Anderson had with Shepard.  Maybe I  wouldn't have realize that without Vega...or I would I have?>>  My original thoughts were that Garrus would eventually have to hold that mantle or someone like Kaidan or Ashley b/c of the Spectre status but it really is Vega.  Kaidan, Ashley, Garrus, and Shepard are in the same boat.  Vega was really just getting started when we met him.

I started to like him on the first mission, but on the Normandy he immediately wanted to call me 'Lola'. As the famous Mr. Horse said: "No, sir, I don't like it". I shut his mouth pretty quick.

i liked him in my first playthrough, and i like him in my second (current) playthrough.

this time (playing hardcore rather than normal). i keep sending him into rooms since he's so damn tough, then me and garrus can sweep in behind him and mow everyone down. so not only is he cool personality-wise, he's extremely useful gameplaywise

I went into the game with low expectations but ended up really liking him. The dialogue between them just flowed so nicely and really brought him to another level for me. Besides, he's a badass and that I like. Garrus, Kal'Reegar and Vega are in the top on my favorite characters. And his banter with Garrus is golden.

Too bad he isn't a romance option. That would have been a fun playthrough.

I thought he turned out great, those quiet moments of chat between Shepard and Vega I thought were very sweet and personal. I thought it showed a softer side to his brute exterior. The Lola nickname was adorable.

I would have liked a more in depth story arc about him, like maybe a loyalty mission or something but I guess that may be future dlc.. He was very funny to.

Great voice acting with emotion. He was a big teddy bear.

Going into the game I thought he was going to be totally bland, but he ended up really surprising me. He had so much personality and was actually kinda adorable. I also loved his flirts and the way he called FemShep "Lola."

Like a lot of people I was all set to hate Vega, assuming he would be the new Jacob/Kaidan and a some sort of dudebrah cliché to boot. But I actually ending up liking him, he had the sort of spirit that Kaidan/Jacob were missing and a real badass edge to him.

My favourite thing about him was the banter he had with Cortez. It was pretty well done by Bioware, take the character that the meatheads would naturally gravitate towards and then give him this bantertastic friendship with a gay character. Well played Bioware.

hes incredibly dull, hes just an average shooter character. we already have had squads with a few humans and some really cool aliens, the last thing we needed was not just another human squad mate but a really boring one at that

I can take him or leave him. The most interesting thing about him is his banter with Cortez and Garrus, but his "personal story" was pretty pointless and barely developed.

I would have liked a little more input in his character BUT I loved James. The flirt battles were hilarious, and his nickname quirk was adorable. If he was an LI, I would have jumped him no problem. I love being his buddy though.

I thought I was gonna hate Vega but I really liked him. He was good in fights too (for me anyway). I was happy to have another human on the ship I could actually take with me on missions.

I romanced Garrus and he will always be my favorite, but I have to admit I was enjoying the eye candy.

And I loved James.  The fact that he treats Shep like a normal person rather than this big goddamn hero was both awesome and unexpected, especially since he's the newbie to the franchise.  And his ambient banters with other people (esp. Garrus) are made of win.

Still dislike him. He's too much of a meathead. I prefer intellectual conversation with Javik, Garrus, Legion, or Mordin. Or even some badassery from Zaeed. But Vega... he's a bit bland. He suffers greatly from "side-human-male-character-in-a-bioware-game" syndrome. Kaidan had it bad, Jacob had it worse, and Vega... it doesn't look like he's gonna pull through.

I thought he was okay - the flirting was a bit annoying, though, especially since I didn't have the option to tell him to knock it off (auto-dialogue woes). He's not as important in the story as I thought he'd be, after Mars you can pretty much just forget about him and continue on your merry way. Every other character has at least one mission you're forced to take them on that's actually important to them. I think I'm planning on taking him with me more places in my current run, although I'm playing a Soldier already so it might be a bit overkill///

At first, I just wanted to leave him behind on the citidel or throw him out the damn airlock. After a while though, he's cool. He's definately got that western accent, and he's probably used steroids at one time or another. If I could take more than 2 other party members with me, he'd be riding shotgun behind Garrus.

Well, I had preconceptions about him based mostly on his cartoonish Mr. Universe body and Dolph Lundgren haircut.  However, as the game progressed, I actually found I liked him.  And in fact, given all the flirting he does, I am surprised he is not a LI.  He has a sense of humor, that's for sure.
