Again, in the very beginning when Shepard is on trial.  A lot of characters throughout the game mention how they "were going to see him, but didn't/couldn't."

I don't know man... that "Here's hoping" and "Hang in there" sounds suspicious to me. Keep in mind Ashley is still feeling awkward around until the middle of the game and in the beginning... she can't even see your face without having a doubt. When she says "Skipper" that means she fully trust you which is almost at the end of the game 

Someone already posted about this, came to the same conclusion, played the game again, and got the same message at the VERY beginning.  Ashley calls you Skipper in her letter from Horizon in the middle of ME2 -- it doesn't necessarily mean she has FULL trust still, you were STILL with Cerberus when she contacted you.  It's a playful word they use between each other once in awhile.

Guys, in all seriousness... These messages were probably just made up in a short amount of time without too much thought given to them as a nice addition to the fans. They only make sense if you picture them being sent before the Reaper attack on Earth.

I know you're looking for a a hint, anything, that might give hope for a better ending, but this is not it.

this was talking about yesterday... we ultimately came to the conclusion that it was referencing the begging of the game as ashley/kaiden was at the beginning of the game where you were being held.

I got this message from Kaidan too. When I'd started a new game. He'd obviously had every intention of visiting Shepard before the Reapers hit earth. It would explain the "If they let me", and also explains why they only see each other for the first time just before the meeting with Alliance. Damn you Reapers!

Shepard had it way,WAY worse in the beginning of ME2 when Cerberus retrieved his body. Sure the Illusive Man had the power to do that. But now when everyone believes in Shepard and thinks he is the one, why not just bring him back again from the dead? And we don't even know if Shepard really died when you destroy the Reapers.

The answer is: you get that message when you start a new game. It's the first one you get, actually, and refers to when you're in lockdown on Earth, prior to the Reapers invading. I tested it myself. Twice.

Sweet, well thanks, I thought that would be the case too, but found it strange that the VS would send you that message then, especially since.. you know, last time you spoke to them they hated you and everything

Yeah BSN was full of compassion back then, doesn't seem so long ago for me. Though I didn't see the actual decline back into BSN bull****.

Hmm, yeah, I can see how it might seem kind of far-fetched to people, but I see no reason to rule it out entirely. I myself am skeptical that it means anything, but until we get the EC there's no way to know for sure. It certainly wouldn't surprise me. We all know that BioWare has been sneaky and subtle about things before, just look at the whole Joker's sister thing.

I'm pretty sure most people know Harley Quinn is Joker's sister, but I think I see what you're getting at.
