Other than that I think you're being a bit nit picky. Though I think Duncan is kind of a boring character...
any character you immediately go "Oh I'm suppose to think hes good" and you can just tell by the way he looks and sounds... Or the polar opposite with Loghain and Arl Howe.
meh boring..

Subjective is any statement that is filtered through the views of the speaker.
That would make every statement subjective, then, or else it is just noise. But if every statement is subjective the word holds no meaning--what is it being differentiated from? By that definition an objective view would be one unprocessed ("unfiltered") by consciousness, i.e. a view without anything perceiving it, which is impossible.

Sten. Sheesh. Did you get his sword? Did you read his codex entry? Did you talk to him? HE PANICKED! He had that sword molded to his hand and it had never left him before. He was without honor without it. He did not kill that family in cold blood. He killed it in a panic. He could not go home. He failed (in his mind). He even waited to be arrested for a number of days. He surrender. Maybe his type of honor is unfamiliar to me, but I think it makes sense. Did you do his personal quest?
Yes. Yes. No. Yes. Yes. I can't imagine anyone who would panic so much that they would murder everyone in their immediate vicinity. Losing something no matter how valued doesn't translate into murderous actions. He could just as easily bang his own head against a wall until he dies, which makes no more or less sense. Either he's psychotic, it's something to do with the fact that he isn't even human, or else I just don't find it believable.

Look at it from the perspective of a soldier rather than a civilian. Sten is a soldier. He has combat reflexes. He wasn't fully aware, he panicked, and he processed the situation instinctively as being vulnerable and surrounded by enemies.

I think it has to do with the writers trying to create a society completely alien from our own in terms of value. Which I guess fits best into "not even human" . If one had to choose out of those two.

Oghren is a borderline moron and I don't feel bad for lopping his evil ex wifes head off at all.
Wynne is just there she's rather bland
Zevran betrayed me when I refused to make gay love to him so meh lol.
I will agree Duncan over reacted to fellow who wished to back out of the ritual though.

From a simpler standpoint, I enjoy the personality of several characters. Even the ones that I don't prefer have exceptional back stories and interesting feedback depending on the decision making you make throughout the campaigns. IMHO, I have to disagree with the threads title based on my game experience so far.
Props to BioWare, top notch work!

Duncan--what a bastard. He imposes the draft on people and then murders them if they try to back out of it. What gives him the right? I wouldn't mention anyone but PC's but the game clearly seems to expect you to like him or accept his rationalisations for his behaviour as valid (since there are few dialog options to protest it).
I couldn't like Alistair because of his admiration for Duncan, so he is out.
Morrigan is just evil, she actually approves when, for instance, you let Kitty possess that girl, and disapproves if you kill Kitty instead. So she isn't merely against helping people, she likes people to suffer.
Another weird thing I'd like to interject is that whether you help, or help and then murder that merchant who is charging more than people can afford, Alistair and Morrigan disapprove/approve exactly to the same degree, as if they were equal acts!
Leliana--don't know about her yet, she seems straightforward enough but there's probably a bombshell waiting around the corner.
Sten--murderer, with no excuse whatever. I don't find his general personality as offensive as some people, though. I use him in my party because, with a maxed approval rating now he hits like a ton of bricks, and I can use the red dragon armour fairly early.
Shale--not played around with him much and might not this playthrough, since I hear he makes the game kinda easy (I'm playing through on hard on my first playthrough and the game is "just right", although I'm abstaining from picking some of my talents for several levels until I gather a few talent points to test things out with, which makes things a bit more difficult).
Dog--if it weren't for man's best friend there would be noone to like, here. I called mine "Chops". I often don't bring him along though because it's one less opportunity for banter. They should have rebalanced the game so that a party of six would be suitable.
I did every origin and still liked Duncan. I don't understand peoples problems with him.
The only character I didn't really like was Leliane. She has the worst/shortest romance, no chance to change but one very small hardening. She is a hypocrytie with the bard/spy/murderer/loose woman with religious overthe top morals? Her story really doesn't make much sense but I chalk that up to short development time before release. Many times you can re romance her even at the end of the game.
