Given the gfx, the framerates seem poor on my computer

Even with AA turned off, I rarely meet my monitors refresh rate (60).  It's usually lower than 30, although it depends a lot on where the camera is pointing.  Resolution is 1920x1200.  My gfx card manages this with most of my other games.  Anyone else experience lower framerates than they would expect?

Definitely the case, but hardly a massive issue. My PC smashes everything except Crysis and Dragon Age, which is not ideal, but doesn't really bother me either :). Bioware spend more time polishing the dialogue and less on the engine, which is a trade-off I'm quite happy to see more of :).

Crysis has an excuse. :P

But I think Resident Evil 5 looks better than Crysis, particularly the faces. But maybe it can get away with that because the environments have a lower polygon count. Crysis has to render all those damn leaves.

What graphics card? What processor? Is Vsync enabled? Is your DirectX up to date? Can you find the Technical Support forum?

Stop being a "correct forum" ****. I didn't ask for help, so this is the right place.

In case anyone was wondering I didn't cuss just then, they censored an unlikely word.

No it's not, go whine in the tech forum if you must.

What about the other questions. I'll go first.

Q9400 Processor, Radeon HD4770, 4GB RAM, up to date DirectX. I play with Vsync disabled for better frame rates, and with 8xAA at 1920x1080 resolution. In all areas so far I have been getting an FPS in the 50s, and have had no stuttering. This pleasantly surprised me considering the game is just released.

You turn, if you will?

I7 920 radeon hd4770, 6GB RAM, all drivers up to date.

Yes, I'm bragging, but I saved for 1 and a half years for this beast. It bashes through crisis with determination, and as for Dragon Age? It's faster than a priest on altar boys!

There is threading issue in the game when using more than one CPU, if you want to risk burning out your comp to get a decent frame rate, go into task manager and set it to run with only one cpu enabled.

Pity there isn't a forum for teaching manners.

Agreed. Martin has posted on 10-ish threads this morning, and every single one is a bash on the OP.

Maybe he found rat droppings in his cereal

Seriously, though. This is the last time I throw that troll a cookie.

I have an i7 920 @ 3.4 ghz, 3GB RAM at 1.6 ghz, GTX 260 "golden sample", although even if I overclock it it makes a 2 or 3 fps difference. I have the latest nvidia drivers.

For comparison, when I bought Dragon Age I also bought Resident evil 5, Street Fighter 4, Mirror's Edge and Bioshock, and they all maintain 60 fps at least 85% of the time with full AA.

weird. Perhaps you should post about this in the tech support forum. They may be able to give you more valuable advice than us folks, who are now generally bragging about the size of our...computers.

I was actually pleasantly surprised at the performance of dragon age for me. I run an amd 64x2 5600 with 4 gigs and a geforce 8600.

There is some stuttering but I am thankful that I can run with the 'high' texture setting, (the lower ones are just plain awful) as tbh the game isn't super when it comes to graphics. It does feel like I'm making a compromise on performance/graphics that is acceptable to me. (Apart from world models being rather basic, the textures are really flat so I don't mind not being able to crank up AA.)

While the graphics themselves aren't a real 'wow', The level environments are quite large and run well for me with acceptable visuals even on an older system.

[I don't think this belongs in tech support. The OP isn't asking for support with tech.]

What kind of CPU, GPU, and RAM are you talking about?

I didn't check the exact FPS, but on my 2,4 GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB GeForce 9800M GTX and 4 GB RAM it runs smoothly on full details with highest settings including AA (I think 8x).

Edit: I play on 1440x900 res, VSync on

Actually I'm sure, that my fps doesn't match the monitor frequency. But in fact that hardly matters. Usually a game appears smoothly above 25-30 fps.

Exactly, it's not a twitch based game where an exceedingly high framerate would be of some benefit. My main concern with the OP is that, if they are not seeking technical advice, posting on such a widely varying topic seems like a good way to give the game bad press.

Another game I play, called X3:Terran Conflict, suffers a lot from this sort of bad press on their own forums. The vast majority of framerate issues there are now easily tracked down to being an issue with the user's computer. This is not necessarily the user's fault, as ignorance does not equal stupidity in my dictionary. However, I still run across threads on other forums that mention the game to be a resource hog far above what it actually is.

As for 100% CPU usage on dual cores, there should be no detrimental effect to your hardware so long as you computer has decent airflow. I am just glad that this game actually utilises multiple cores at all.
