I doubt I'll get an answer here but I guess it's worth a shot. When I try to access the menu in game in ME1 the game crashes with the following errors:

rendering thread exception:
general protection fault!

Specs:
Windows 7 64bit
intel Core i7  2.20GHz (8 CPUs)
6mb Ram
Geforce GT 525M
Directx 11

Googling it led to a whole lot of references to other games and no solutions presenting themselves to my untrained eye. I updated my drivers today and closed all non essential programs before attempting to run the game. I would appreciate any help that might still be available for this game. I'd really like to play all the way from the beginning of the saga, hope I didn't waste the $10 on this

Try verifying your game files if you're using steam. If you don't know how right click on the game, go to properties, then go to local files and click on verify integrity of game cache.

Bought it through Origin unfortunately. I will try to reinstall later. I can play the game just fine so long as I never try to access the menu though :/

Tech support forum is two lines down. Took me two seconds to google that the game is looking for a driver for your integrated intel video, assuming you do have an i7-2720QM cpu right? Disable it. Problem gone.
