1) It's probably not technically possible to change the ending.

2) Changing the ending sets a horrible precedent. You don't change the ending for the same reason you don't negotiate with terrorists. It will just encourage more of this disgusting behavior.

3) Creators that don't have the integrity to stand beside their choices and keep moving forward are bad creators. See: George Lucas.

4) Grow up!

5) Even if they did "fix" the ending, the chances of it being able to silence the hyenas is slim.

6) Even if they did work out an ending that people were happy with, you would just find the next biggest issue to harp about, start a new petition, and the cycle continues.

7) Asking creators to change art is something only an unsocialized imbecile would do. It's like crapping in a bucket in public and then wearing the bucket as a helmet. Nobody is going to take your opinion seriously when you do things so far over the line of what is acceptable behavior.

8) Stop it.

RE: Number 4.  That pretty much guarentees I, and a lot of other people are going to dismiss anything you have to say out of hand.  If you can't make a valid argument, and have to instead imply that anyone who is unhappy with a product they paid upwards of $60 for is immature, than nothing you have to say is worth listening to.

1.  You are probably correct.

2. Not delivering on your promises sets a worse precedent.  IMHO this trumps the "change ending" issue.

3. I think people not delivering on promises are worse than folks that like to tweak their endings.  Remember if you deliberately decieve customers that's a crime in most parts of the world .... [I'm not claiming anything deliberate mind you]

4. I'm fairly grown up already thank you very much.  Any responsible citizen that believes they have been cheated can, and IMHO should, speak up for themselves.

5.  Silence is irrelevant.  Living up to promises made to keep your reputation as intact as possible would be the issue at hand.

6.  The journal is bad along with some quest & graphics glitches.  Do you REALLY think though that we care that much about those glitches??  Really??

7.  The question isn't about art.  It's totally irrelevant.  What we have is a producer of a product.  The producer made promises.  "Reasonable" people believe the promises weren't delivered on.  In terms of moral and ethical practices fulfilling promises always trumps artistic vision.   If you commission a family portrait and get a sea scape from an artist you should either get your money back or coerce the artist to deliver what was promised.   This is no different IMHO.  To think otherwise borders on rediculous.

8.  I will not stop it.  However I wouldn't be so bossy as to tell you to stop it.

Note:  IMHO you are coming close to violating the forum code of conduct by making broad based attacks.  I would request a more civil discussion.
