Go to your Bioware folder in your documents.

Create the following:

..\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\John_12_Adept_190211\\Save_0094.pcsav

"Mass Effect 2" folder. Inside it, a "Save" folder. Inside it a character folder, eg "John_12_Adept_190211". Put your save inside that Character folder, in this example "Save_0094.pcsav"

The character folder is formatted like this:

John <-- name of the character
12 <-- record, First number is [Player] Origin values: 1 = Spacer, 2 = Colonist, 3 = Earthborn
Second number is [Player] Notoriety values: 1 = Survivor, 2 = War Hero, 3 = Ruthless
Adept <-- Player class
190211 <-- date the character was created, game started. In this case February 19, 2011

This folder name is what the game uses to provide you with the initial information when choosing what career to import. The save file inside is more important as that is what determines the actual details.

You may have all this correct. But, if the save you downloaded doesn't have the end game state set it's not going to work.

IMHO, this can happen if the player finished the game and continued but didn't create a save on the Normandy.

In this case, i think, their autosave would have the correct state but not the save they uploaded... In which case you'll have to either edit the save or load the save in ME2 and resume hoping you don't have to play the entire suicide mission all over again, or worse.
