Alot of players come to this forum asking questions about gear, talent and skill choices.

What is best? What do you use? What "build" should I use?

What happened to experimenting on your own? Making your own choices and not playing like everyone else.
RPG's are all about personal preference,  yet you come here looking for specific ways to play YOUR game?

I understand the need to keep up in competitive environments like lame-MO's, but there is no competition here.

Is THIS what the RPG genre has come too?

I actually have to disagree, that's EXACTLY what this forum is for.

Making good builds and strategy was always the main focus of the "General Discussion" forums.

That bold line is where the crux of your post is. For you, RPG's are about personal preference, experimenting, etc. How other people play THEIR game is none of your business. If they want to know how to make a fun character, they have every right to ask. If they want to learn how to play, they can ask to be taught. Compare it to learning something by yourself and learning it from a teacher. Some people prefer the former, other people prefer the latter. Some people don't have the time or patience to go to the trial-and-error of figuring everything out for themselves, especially in a game that is not exactly generous in providing information about your character choices. Try to think of these people as people who attempt to get to the fun as fast as possible.

this game suffers from gross discrepancies when it comes to builds, partially due to bugs.

It isn't fun watching your archers fire off a 19 damage arrow when your dw warrior can swing for 40 a blow.

I'm pretty sure alot of people would find this game less enjoyable without these forums.
