2: ME3
ME2: should never have had happened, instead 3 should be 2 and 3 should be what happened after the catalyst didnt work.. something along those lines.
ME2 could have been a fine stand alone game with other characters than Shep and crew
Now with ME3 out and offering substantial gameplay improvements and much more smoothly woven together experience than ME2 (too modular and not a well joined together experience), and ME1 having a far better atmosphere/vibe/story than ME2...
Apart from introducing some great characters (Mordin, Legion...), it's kind of bleh in retrospect. Not saying it isn't a good game - it is a very good game. But compared to ME1 and ME3 it loses in all departments.
