If there was ever a Mass Effect movie, Ashley would be the LI.

Quite sure Liara would be over Ashley in the movie. Again, look at how they give her special treatment, and try to force her down your throat in genesis. Liara is clearly the canon choice, not Ashley.

Everything involving Ashley/Kaiden has to be drawn and recorded twice for the same effect.  Theres a reason they have so little time in 2, and miss a huge chunk of 3.

It has nothing to do with the characters themselves.

Liara is like 4th on the depth chart in my eyes.  Tali, Miranda and Ashley are all more likely.

^ Agreed. In ME2 we had Miranda, Jacob, Samara and Jack as Biotic, ME3 only Liara, which kind of compels you to bring her along if you like to create strategies using Biotics.

Besides that, something that bugged me are the love scenes with Liara. As much I like my old Turian pal *hides*, I have to say, there isn't any other love scene that compares with hers.

Does Shepard even say "I love you" to the others LI?

Ash and Shepard bat around "I love you" like a ball in a tennis match.

I'm not sure... I'm playing through the trilogy again as a renegade biotic and will romance Liara. I'm told the romance with her is very well written and cute.

Liara's the best LI because no one can pop male Shepard's thermal clip like she does.

I'm a great Liara fan and I would like to think Liara is the canon and most popular of love interests. If they ever make a movie, however, I fear Shepard (who will 100% be a male) will love Ashley who I hate. But human x human is so boring. Human x Asari is the ****!

Liara's an Asari Maiden who describes herself as "little more than a child" the first time you meet her in Mass Effect. Think about that for a second.

The only straight female peer options that don't involve problematic abuse of the other person through emotional manipulation or power discrepancies based on maturity are Ashley, Miranda, and Kelly Chambers. Jack is an emotionally damaged victim of sexual abuse who is afraid of intimacy unless you basically INSULT her into dating you, Liara's the Asari equivalent of a 15 or 16 year old, and Tali isn't an adult until Mass Effect 2 or 3.

Ashley, Miranda, and Kelly Chambers are fully-developed adults with careers and lives. And if you look at all of the male romantic possibilities, they're exactly the same. What does it say about the default male perspective that so many of the female romantic options are victims of sexual abuse or just plain immature?

Seriously, though, Liara's body language, speech, and actions are that of a teenager. Tali's similar in that regard. They're basically kids.  But the "universally female," "attractive to all races," and according to the ME3 codex "sexually aggressive by nature" Asari are basically fanwank. <_<

If I'm not mistaken, Tali is a young adult when you meet her. With this definition, I would say she's between 18 and 20 years old by human standard.

Liara was probably given the most attention in ME3 because at least one character that's deeply part of the storyline needed that treatment. Her story arc fits best with the main story. She's the universal love interest and friend for both veterans of ME and newcomers. Both male and femshep can romance her, and the romance seems natural for either sex. If you choose to romance someone else, you can still have a really close friendship with her, and you still get a majority of the really touching scenes between them.

Miranda is my LI, but Liara was written very well.

I'm actually pretty surprised at the lack of Liara in ME3. I was afraid they would turn Liara into the main character based on her invulnerability.
