Maybe it was because I slept with her in the first game to see what it was all about. I remember loading straight after to say no instead but apparently it recorded in the save. It sucks as I'm not a huge fan of Liara and I really like Tali.

I'd like more too. There's long stretches of nothing.Fenrisfil wrote...
I think it's clearly Liara. I don't object to that and the fact that she becomes a really close friend regardless of if you romance her is fine, she's a great character. If they had to focus on one, she makes sense as she can be romanced by either gender in ME1, goes with the whole tolerance and unification theme and unlike other alien romances introduced later (and some human options), is capable of having offspring from the coupling. I do find myself wishing that there was more close personal interactions with all the love interests (or at least the four other's that can be ME3 squad mates), but then that may just be me being greedy, I'd probably want more if Liara was my LI too.

there isn't a canon love interest, but it doesn't mean bioware didn't play favorites. its clear the writers liked liara the most
This, which is why i'm utterly shocked it was Ashley in the CG trailer. Works for me since Ash is my LI, but still.

No because as you've kindly pointed out, there is no canon LI.
Shephard, forever alone.
I think she may be the canon LI since she's clearly omnipresent in Shephard's saga.

If the Mass Effect franchise continues, and Bioware wants to include Shepherd's lineage (kids or grandkids, etc.) as characters in future games, there will need to be a "canon LI".
Shepard can be male or female, making Liara the most likely "canon LI".

No offense, but Liara has the least personality out of all of the Mass Effect characters
Least personality? I feel like her personality is more dynamic than any other character. She starts off as a socially awkward and shy doctor and ends up as a confident information broker who stands up for herself. I don't want to drag this into debate, but I felt like adding my own input.

She's the only me1 squad mates that cant die, so maybe she is.
She is the only romancable ME squadmate that can't die, and the only two other ME squadmates that can't were introduced in ME3 (EDI, Prothean, and James)

I agree. The rest were fairly stable (minus Garrus) but she really changed over the course of the games. If you've played all of them, you would know this. ME1: awkward scientist; ME2: in-over-her-head info agent with a bit of a god complex; ME2: LotSB: more humanized; ME3: almost completely humanized.

I always though Ashley because of her CG apperance in ME1 and ME3. Along with her romance scene being in the trailer.
Ash being in the trailer was for newcomers. If they saw Shep smackin lips with a blue girl they may be weirded out, therefore potentially hurting sales.

Yeah, marketing has to be focused on pulling people in with the stereotypical characters. That's why it was always MaleShep in the marketing until ME3.

I know that most will say there isn't a "canon" love interest, but if you had to associate one, it's Liara, right?
She's my canon LI and my canon is the only canon that matters. Canon!
