This, which is why i'm utterly shocked it was Ashley in the CG trailer. Works for me since Ash is my LI, but still.

i liked ashley the most also, i can be greatful that she got 10x more screen time than she got in ME2

im pretty sure if a movie is ever made Liara will be shepard´s LI, canon or no canon im pretty sure that will happen, mainly because getting a hot actress to play her is always a bonus for the marketing of the movie.

ofc people that love liara know shes more than a body, shes an amazing character thats been on constant evolution since ME1.

Agreed if they make a movie Liara will be the LI...

I always though Ashley because of her CG apperance in ME1 and ME3. Along with her romance scene being in the trailer.

Indeed. I always associated him more with Ashley, especially with Virmire and what not. From the very beggining there was alot more romantic tension associated with Ashely. However, Liara would be a very close 2nd in my mind.

She's my canon LI and my canon is the only canon that matters.  Canon!

It's been a long time since I've seen you, jlb.

Yeah, probably. I think she's really bland, but she's stuck to Shepard like glue, and she did save him from the Collectors.

I just wish the ME2 LI get the same love  the Devs show to Liara .

Least personality? I feel like her personality is more dynamic than any other character. She starts off as a socially awkward and shy doctor and ends up as a confident information broker who stands up for herself. I don't want to drag this into debate, but I felt like adding my own input.

I agree. The rest were fairly stable (minus Garrus) but she really changed over the course of the games. If you've played all of them, you would know this. ME1: awkward scientist; ME2: in-over-her-head info agent with a bit of a god complex; ME2: LotSB: more humanized; ME3: almost completely humanized.

But in ME1 she is sooo cute [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

Ash being in the trailer was for newcomers. If they saw Shep smackin lips with a blue girl they may be weirded out, therefore potentially hurting sales.

Yep. Same reason they had Miranda as LI in the ME2 trailer.

There's nothing more depressing then when the universe is getting you down, heading down to engineering for a few heart warming words from my love, to find all Tali has to say to me is "Hello Shepard".

I swear, I've had better conversations with Wrex! He doesn't kiss as well mind.

Speaking of Canon, It's also pretty clear the canon is for Tali to hook up with Garrus too. My best friend and my girlfriend are meant to be together. Damn that hurts! Worse still, now they are stranded together on a beautiful alien world. Ah well, at least they'll both be happy.

Look at my avatar. You don't have to tell me that twice ;) I was just focusing on the personality. I've been Liara faithful throughtout every one of my saves, except a brief fling with Miranda to see how the ME2 LIs were handled. I tried to do an Ashley and Tali save, couldn't do it.

No offense, but Liara has the least personality out of all of the Mass Effect characters. Even when she's busy being awesome, she sounds like she's been hit on the head. My paragon character romanced her in Shadow Broker, but I had to put a stop to that right quick when ME3 started.

Out of all of the characters, Liara is the only one who has no chance of dying, so they put a lot of her into the story in order to pad games where the ME2 imports had most of the cast dying. It then makes sense for her to be in the final .bik video because rather than, you know, having in-engine cutscenes it was just cheaper to use the video where Liara is one of your oldest friends instead of a video recognizing that you may have had several teammates you've known even longer than her (like, you know, Garrus or Doctor Chakwas or Ashley Williams or Kaidan Alenko or Tali'Zorah or anybody who joined your crew first in Mass Effect 1 and stuck around longer).

That's one of the treats I like about her. It makes her seem mysterious, while you know that she a lot cares about Shepard. Scenes like the ones where she shows her secrect project and the gift scene was just amazing. How can you not like her.

Tali's romance is quite nice too. I did it in my first ME2 playthrough where LotSB wasn't out yet but cancelled it because she died in ME2 <_<

I only tested Ash out once... Liara is by far better :o

I think Liara gets the most attention, rather unfairly.

I'll preface this with I never saw any Mass Effect 1 launch trailers (didn't play ME1 until ME2 had come out), but my interpretation has always been that "cannon Shepard" romanced Ashley in the first game (cos she was on the cover), cheated on her with Miranda in the 2nd game (cos of trailer footage), and then got back together with Ashley in the 3rd game (again, trailer).

At the beginning of ME3 I was kind of pissed that Liara got all this screen time (and a me2 dlc) while Kaiden (Ashley in other people's games) got shoved aside in a hospital. But by the end of the game, I thought the overall romance arc with Kaiden (and thus Ashley) was much more interesting and well done than what I perceive things with Liara would be.

I'd say she is. I was going to go with Ash with how BW has marketed ME but that doesn't matter.

Yeah, marketing has to be focused on pulling people in with the stereotypical characters. That's why it was always MaleShep in the marketing until ME3.

There's no canon LI. She's just the one that could never die.
