Why can't I download this for my PC if I own the PS3 version of the game?

Do I have to go out and spend another $60 to be able to use the toolkit? I bought the game once, I hope that I wouldn't be forced to buy it again if I want to use the toolkit just because I prefer to play the game on the PS3.

Why would you want this if you don't have the PC version anyway?

The toolset uses resources from the game engine. There is no way for the toolset to function in any reasonable matter without certain aspects of the game engine.

I didn't know about the toolkit before I got the game.

I have fun making custom levels and such and I would like to do that with this awesome game but in order to do so I would have to go out and buy another copy of the same game to have it on my PC.

Ah I get it now. But yeah I guess they don't want modders to get it without having bought the game. Granted, you did get the game for PS3 but yea. I don't think they will change the way that works, sadly.

It doesnt matter. If you want to use the toolset, you need the gamefiles to ..well mod them.

Its just logical isnt it? No game to mod, nothing to do, end of story.

Since I'm bringing this up it does matter to me, otherwise I wouldn't have posted anything.

I bought the game once and I'm hoping i can use the toolkit without buying another copy for the PC.

I don't think it's hard to see the reasoning behind not including the toolset download with the console version of the game. You wouldn't be able to play, or test, anything you created without the PC version of the game.

Still it strikes me as a silly decision on Bioware's behalf. Especially because it likely also means they're not trying too hard to get user created content onto Playstation Network or Xbox Live.

They could do it which is my point.

Leaving out the console users is a form of prejudice.

...no, it's not prejudice.

Bad customer service, maybe. Prejudice? No. Just no.

It was more of a joke, i dont really think that they like PC owners more than console owners

Why not just port the toolkit to ps3? They wouldnt even need to change anything as the PS3 supports keyboard and mouse via USB.

I really think that it is a BAD decision not to at least have a PS3 version of the toolkit (would be better if mods made for pc could be converted/compatible with the consoles but I digress).

As customers we are missing out on the true long term appeal of the game - unlimited free DLC in the form of user created content.

I'd kill for this. I hear that UT3 did support mods, I wonder if there is hope just yet.

Maybe we need a petition going to get Bioware...aware of the customer's wants.

My opinion - The toolset was advertised as a bonus feature for the PC version. While I do not know much about PS3's, I imagine it would be quite a challange to get it working on PS3. Also, Bioware cannot just pressume that everyone who has a PS3 has a USB keyboard and mouse - that would just cause more problems and would force them to spend alot of time and money attempting to get it working for controllers - which would not be feasable.

The toolset uses the game files installed, so you need the PC version to use the toolset. PS3 games are on DVD I belive (not sure, can you copy to the HDD on the PS3?) so that would be quite a pain to implement. Also - they would need to get a version working for the 360 too or face more complaints.

Just think - they could have released no toolset at all - the fact that they have shows a far greater willingness to allow modifications than most games.

I agree with Nwalya42. Mods are always PC things due to the complexity of them. If you want to go mucking around with mods...by the PC version, it will be a lot more satisfying than attempting to do it with the PS3.

Bioware rocks with their toolsets. My first experience with their work was with NWN. Truly a load of fun!

As someone mentioned previously, it was a blanket advertisement with no distinction between systems. Designing a solution shouldnt be based on if the user has a keyboard and mouse, if you dont have one you cant use it and then it's your problem. They dont need to get it working on the controllers.

The PS3 version of the game is on BluRay so no you can't copy it to your PC.

Another solution is to give the data files needed to mod the game to all who bought the game and let them use it on a PC if they have it. They would then make all user mods accessible to all platforms via a database that users can download the mods from, regardless of the system.

Convince Sony and Microsoft to let that fly, and both Bioware and Valve will be eternally grateful to you.

-Hmmmm... so instead of ailienating all people who use consoles, they should only alienate those who only use controllers? Great... Also - "if you dont have one you cant use it and then it's your
problem" - right back at you. You don't have the PC version, so you can't use the toolset, and that's your problem.

Neither Sony nor MS make it easy to get player-made content available on their online services. It's in incredible pain in the rear. That is probably the single most significant reason there is no toolset support for the consoles. As well, the system has system resource caps that need to be followed (especially on the 360, not sure about the PS3 though). It is very far from "it has mouse and keyboard support, done!". Data and texture formats need to be optimized differently for each console. There is probably a very long list of reasons why it ended up not being considered, those are just what I can think of off the top of my head.

I'll also point out that the PS3 only has 512 meg of RAM, and half of that is set aside for graphics.

It's physically impossible for the PS3 to load all the resources the toolset needs into memory at once.
