-Hmmmm... so instead of ailienating all people who use consoles, they should only alienate those who only use controllers? Great... Also - "if you dont have one you cant use it and then it's your
problem" - right back at you. You don't have the PC version, so you can't use the toolset, and that's your problem.

I can go pick up a USB mouse and keyboard for under 20 bucks. That is assuming that i dont have one laying around which I do. I have about 3 in the garage. USB keyboards and mouses are as common as the PC. Regardless i'd much rather go out and spend 20 bucks than 60. You have to alienate people based on hardware all the time, they do it with the minimums requirements for the game. But my system can run the game so I should be able to have the same access to the toolkit as other customers who bought the game.
You seemed to have missed my other solution, letting those who own the game on a console download the neccessary game files and toolkit on their PC and uploading the content to a Bioware server that you can access no matter the platform.
I'd like to hear your solution.

How did the people at UT3 do it? I don't know the whole story.

I think the mods will run on PC/XBox360/PS3 - maybe you need a special "compiler" flag in the toolset. Bioware will use the same tools to create Mods or new DLC, maybe they have some sort of converter. So there should be no problem.

But how will you get the mods on your console - by USB noooooooo! I dont think that Sony or M$ will allow this (but i dont know UT3). So maybe its a problem to include a download portal with ratings and uploads for system x, then bioware must check the uploaded content and so on.

This would be a big big feature - like in LBP - but i dont think they will do it. Thats to "progressive" for EA.

I for one would like to be able to use the tool kit on my PS3. However.. if that is not possible.. then I would be just as happy that they make it so player created mods will work on the PS3/360. How they would patch that? I am not sure. But I would imagin they could figure something out. After all gaming systems these days are computers in and of themselves. Heck. They could make a patch for the PS3 that allows players to use the internet function of their playstation to download these player created mods like they would for the PC.

Being able to get player created mods to work on the consoles shouldn't be too much of a challange - they would just need a compiler that changed the files into DLC and then create a seperate section for console downloads that can be accessed from the cosole OS.

They could in theory allow registered users of any version of the game download the files which allow you to run the toolkit if you don't have the PC version - but I would imagine it would require most of the files from the game - basically meaning you get 2 games for the price of 1. Also the download would be huge. A bioware server that you can access no matter what would be difficult due to the varying hardware. The way that the modules are done and the difference in hardware would mean that it would be a real pain to create modules that are compatible with all consoles.

Basically, Mottfried has it right.

If your system can run the game, why did you get the PS3 version? The PC version is superior - especially considering that you can use the toolkit and user created content.

This says it all right here, The toolset requires the game, the toolset is free, so you are asking Bioware to give you a second game. Stateing "I already paid for it" doesn't cut it, what you paid for was the PS3 version of the game. Bioware has long stated that the toolset would only work on the PC - do your homework before you buy.

do your homework Bioware never said the toolset would be PC only or that the User made content would be. and i do belive they said the toolset would be released befor the game so there could be user content from day 1

note at the end all 3 systems are shown not just the pc and it never says PC only,

They would
then make all user mods accessible to all platforms via a database that
users can download the mods from, regardless of the system.

Convince Sony and Microsoft to let that fly, and both Bioware and Valve will be eternally grateful to you.

you right there no way they let this happen
its not like there a game called Little Big planet that full of user Gerated crap
i must be crazy to think Bioware be able to make it own online datebase for consule player to DL from....

the Bioware talked about the game counity as a huge feature to this game, turns out that only for the PC player who paid less money for it..

personly my pc probly would be able to handle the toolset, but that dosnt mean my ps3/x-360 copy shouldnt beable to get the user-made content that was part of dragon age's add campage

we are beigng left out a huge chunk of the game we had to pay more for... if it not in some way fixed ill never buy a bioware game agien we got the shaft

Maybe they will eventually integrate this, perhaps charge some money so it doesn't seem like a waste of time. Don't get me wrong, I really think we got the shaft but money would be a good incentive...

I dont think that accessing user made content through the ps3 would be a problem. Even if all they did was create some kind of "converter" or "compiler" that would make a ps3 version of the mod executable on the ps3. This is the hard part, making the mod work on ps3.

Accessing the user made content is the easy part - the ps3 has its own web browser people. People can access it the same way they would if they had the game on PC - google "l33t modz for ta dagon age" and click download.

Jab0r, in terms of ram, remember that the ps3 uses ram much more efficiently than a pc. Add to that that you dont have the same OS load and other programs running in the background (at the most you would have something downloading) and the crazy cpu in the ps3 and I think it could run the toolkit just fine.
I think the easiest option would be a native PS3 toolkit. Then you know created mods work on your system. A "converter" wouldnt be very good in my eyes as there is no telling how any one mod will behave on your sony (or work at all). Unless of course the game is built in exactly the same way on both systems, which I doubt. But hey, anything is possible right.

Thank you for the input and the actual commercial that showed it was promised to all systems.

I hope we can get a Bioware response soon. Otherwise i might be up for some class action.

Whats the offical line on this one?

Most recent thing I can find just says they are looking into it. Thats from before the game was released - so apparently there has been no comment since then.

Edit: here is the news I am talking about http://gamer.blorge....on-age-origins/

Edit: I note that it says "bringing the best user created content over to the PS3"
Interesting way to put it. I wonder who will decide what "best" is.

The Dragon Age Toolset comes with the PC version of the game, not the console versions. While we are ivestigating ways that created content may come to the console versions, the toolset is exclusive for the PC version.

If you are investigating it.....then would it be sensible to actually create a toolkit for the platform that sells the most copies? I hate to suggest it but (and I cringe just thinking that I am about so say this) you could even sell the toolkit as an addon? Ack! that hurt!

I'm sorry that you got the impression that you could use the toolset on a console version of the game. The toolset is designed for use on a PC. It simply in not designed to work on a console. Plugging a keyboard and mouse to your console does not make it a PC.

As was pointed out in some earlier posts, the toolset requires a bunch of files from the game in order to work, and in many cases, the files from the console versions are different than the ones for the PC, and would not work with the toolset, so asking for the PC toolset after buying a console version is akin to asking for a free copy of the PC version of the game after buying a console version.

In studio, the toolset was built to run with dozens and dozens of designers working simultaneously on a centralized, managed database, using a lightmapping server farm, and a sophisticated build process with technical staff with the know how to keep it all up and running. We have spent considerable effort in extracting the toolset from the surrounding support infrastructure so that it can run on a standalone pc so that community members can also enjoy creating new content and modifying content as they desire. It has been a challenge, and we are still tweaking it in order to make it work the way it should on a stand alone pc. Once we get that in better shape, we can focus on other enhancements and improvements. We may do some work in the future to try and facilitate moving user generated content from the PC to other platforms (Some of our users may be bright enough to figure it out on their own too)

The toolset being available for PC only is not an attempt to make you have to buy the game multiple times, or any kind of discrimination against console owners, it is a simple technical reality that it does not run on consoles. The files that you got with the console version are not the same as the ones delivered with the PC version, and I don't even know how they would behave with the toolset. We are willing to work with the community to try and work on porting solutions, however the threat of class action lawsuits is counter productive to working together towards any kind of solution. The fact that this is being bandied about in this thread is causing me to choose my words carefully and consider how helpful I should try to be here (i.e. it is hard to be helpful and constructive while being threatened, knowing that every word will be read and interpreted a thousand times over)

First of all, thanks Bioware for stepping and and helping us out :)

As for threats of class action - I think this thread has been relatively good so far in that no-one has really dignified that issue with discussion, so I dont think legal action is an issue - nor do I see this as a very good medium to discuss it. In all seriousness - no-one goes to court over $60.

I am however a big supporter of a native toolkit for the PS3 - this would ensure that created mods would be workable on our platform - rather than you guys having to port mods individually - the community would manage itself. It would mean that PS3 mods would not be compatible with PC and vice cersa but so be it. I would much rather a peer reviewed mod community than only selected, very popular mods being ported to the PS3. Not only is the latter more work for you guys, but we still miss out on the whole point of moddability - it becomes DLC rather than mods in their true sense where you have, literally, the freedom to do as you wish.

I would definately pay for the toolkit if it was ported to the PS3 and provided as DLC. That would kick all kinds of ass. As it stands I am reluctant to buy any DLC via ps3 as I may end up getting the pc version for the mods - defeating the purpose of getting any DLC for my ps3.

Edit: Just to clarify, my comments regarding mouse and keyboard were more related to interface issues than the actual porting of the software. I just meant that you wouldn't need to worry about changing the user interface within the toolkit if keyboard and mouse were supported. I did not mean to say "just support keyboard and mouse and your all done lulz!!11!!!1" - just that you wouldn't have to worry about making it controller friendly.

I have an idea.. though please Bioware let me know if it is not possible..But we are talking about converting these player mods so they can be downloaded by PS3/Xbox users... If it is a matter of exporting/converting, why not create a patch that allowed the people with the toolkit to save ModA, as ModA.PC or ModA.PS3 or ModA.XBOX... you know kinda like jpegs, bmps gifs, xcfs..and so fourth. I am sure its more complicated then that and I really am just simplifying it.

And while y'all at Bioware are at it.. how 'bout you give us poor PS3/Xbox users some cheats? D: The PC users get to hit ~ and type some commands in and remove the party limit... so unfair ;_; I wanna cheat like a pc gamer!

But either way, its cool for me.

It depends what kind of mod you are making. Anything that requires any kind of scripting would be very hard to do with a controller. Imagine typing code with your sixaxis controller....... Im sure it's possible, It just wouldn't be ideal. I think contollers are great for playing - not so great for creating.
