Anything based on Source has reams of user-created content.
Why not open the source code of the toolkit to the public?
Maybe the customers can generate a solution.
If there is a group out there that has the talent and desire to create a correctly-functioning port of the toolset to the PS3, that same group would be capable of producing said toolset even if they were to start from scratch.
As a matter of fact, if I were tasked with building a version of the toolset to run on the PS3, I'd build it for the PS3 from the ground up without even looking at the source for the PC version.
Jab0r
your solution would be about the only way i think it could be done it would however take months or perhaps years to do i think & i have to wonder how basic it would end up due to hardware & other limits
& there are many talented people doing things like making tools from scratch to get around certain toolset import-export issues as we speak one of the things i notice is that they do it in spare time

True...putting the toolset aside for the moment, the console spellcasting system could have combo button combonations, such as circle+square could take a slot etc. But i guess that woild take up extra memory. Graphiclly wise couldn't they just ,put all that onto the blue-ray, there's enough space right?

ya, no,
this is a bit Off topic you should probly start a new tread...
i think it work out nicely with the talent spell deal the the idea of me hiting 2 botton make me cring a little if i was them and going to add soming for more spells/skill at a button i would just make the l2 change pages in stead of holding it for 3 more slots then i could have 3-5 pages (9-15 spells) but personly i think 6 quick spells then going tothe wheel for my less used / big splls works nicly
While I really think a converter would be good..... I just somehow don't see it happening - too many variables involved. A native toolkit would be the ideal, but that seems like it would take a long time to develop for a low relative payoff (why would people bother creating mods for the PS3 when there is already a well developed mod community for the PC?). I think more likely is that Bioware will individually port very popular mods. While thats better than nothing, for me it defeats the purpose.... I want to be able to cook up mods myself.
Personally I am considering just returning my copy and getting something else for now - as the moddability is important to me. I would definately get the PC version eventually, but that will have to wait until I get around to buying a new laptop. Thats just me though.
Watch the youtube video that was listed in one of these posts. The commercial talks about the toolkit and doesnt mention anything system specific but instead at the end shows all three games.
Myself and others were under the assumption from that video that there was a toolkit for the PS3. I mean it isnt like we pay more for the game or anything like that.
The way so many console owners (not all, but oddly many) refuse to accept that the hardware in the thing is rubbish and can't run a dev kit is bizarre. It's not a moral statement on your ownership of a console guys, it's just a statement of fact. They're designed with old hardware to run games, not memory chomping dev kits.
It's not only that. There has to be a solution to this problem. We would be somewhat content with DLC being made available for download on the PS3s. I personally want to make my own mods. Another solution would be to give everyone who purchased the game access to all the files needed.
My biggest thing that I have a problem with is that we were promised it.

anyone who dosnt have the PS3 copy of the game you in the wrong place
when bioware says that the toolset will "insure the dragon age community is a thriving center of creativity and content for years to come"
silly us to think that PS3 and XBox360 are part of the dragon age community
and when bioware said some thing to the effect of the challenge was on them to make it work for the a feel like it was ment to be on what ever formate your paling
silly us for think that ment we would get every part of the game
its not unreasonable to think; bioware said we get the toolset with the game i got the game now im going to grab the toolset. failing that be able to download the user made content for the game
The trailer with a room full of people on PC's (with no consoles in sight) using the toolset ends with "TUTORIALS AND TOOLSET HTTP://SOCIAL.BIOWARE.COM" (so they basicaly told you to look for details on the website) then later it was shown when the Game was due for release on the 3 platforms if anyone jumped to the wrong conclusion then did not go to look at the link for details i fail to see how that is false advertising or misleading
your not on the PC forum man you think pc users would know how to click the right link...
myself and airforcefalco never clamed that they where going to make or should of made for ps3, i am just claming the add shows all 3 copies and it never says PC only, and if i had to go to a link to TUTORIALS ,witch btw is the website we are on, is not there way of saing details about what you have to buy to get it here. if you have to dig for that info and they are more then willing to sell you an other item, it a classic Bait and Switch.
Its not that hard to think i can buy it for my ps3 then download the toolset to my pc and make stuff for it. and it not a jump in any logic to betold you can get the toolset if you buy the game, then buy the game and try to get the tool set..........
and it was missleading cuz it misslead a bunch of people.
It says incredible piece of SOFTWARE. - Software is for PCs.
They just added an add for the game on the end of the toolset trailer
On the dragon age page it tells you that: "Registered game owners of the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins can download the toolset here and start creating their own epic adventure stories."
Although it doesn't say exclusively available on PC, it also does not explicitly say available on consoles - which they would because having such a powerful tool on a console would be a world first.
Originally the game was intended as a PC exclusive - they ported it to console after a while, meaning that the toolset was made and used for the PC version, which was then ported to work using console controllers etc.
It is important to note that while it is a port, it is also a different game from technological perspectives.
This is a forum. There are no rules saying that we have to stay in a particular forum.
The devs are probably too busy fixing real issues/problems as oppossed to granting peoples wishes, at least currently. It is a good idea to fix problems that are game breaking for some before granting a wish that might be impossible. Once again, I would like to point out that Dragon Age + Toolset + Community is far beyond what most developers do, so we should be honored to be a part of it and not complain bitterly because you didn't read the fine print.
*facepalm*
Indeed, they seem to be ignoring most of the relevant points put against them.
I'm sorry that you got the impression that you could use the toolset on a console version of the game. The toolset is designed for use on a PC. It simply in not designed to work on a console. Plugging a keyboard and mouse to your console does not make it a PC.
As was pointed out in some earlier posts, the toolset requires a bunch of files from the game in order to work, and in many cases, the files from the console versions are different than the ones for the PC, and would not work with the toolset, so asking for the PC toolset after buying a console version is akin to asking for a free copy of the PC version of the game after buying a console version.
In studio, the toolset was built to run with dozens and dozens of designers working simultaneously on a centralized, managed database, using a lightmapping server farm, and a sophisticated build process with technical staff with the know how to keep it all up and running. We have spent considerable effort in extracting the toolset from the surrounding support infrastructure so that it can run on a standalone pc so that community members can also enjoy creating new content and modifying content as they desire. It has been a challenge, and we are still tweaking it in order to make it work the way it should on a stand alone pc. Once we get that in better shape, we can focus on other enhancements and improvements. We may do some work in the future to try and facilitate moving user generated content from the PC to other platforms (Some of our users may be bright enough to figure it out on their own too)
The toolset being available for PC only is not an attempt to make you have to buy the game multiple times, or any kind of discrimination against console owners, it is a simple technical reality that it does not run on consoles. The files that you got with the console version are not the same as the ones delivered with the PC version, and I don't even know how they would behave with the toolset. We are willing to work with the community to try and work on porting solutions, however the threat of class action lawsuits is counter productive to working together towards any kind of solution. The fact that this is being bandied about in this thread is causing me to choose my words carefully and consider how helpful I should try to be here (i.e. it is hard to be helpful and constructive while being threatened, knowing that every word will be read and interpreted a thousand times over)
Bioware said this a number of posts ago - they apoligised for it seeming misleading. You said:
I wish the devs would show up to say more than the fact that they dont like it if you threaten them with a class action lawsuit.
They did ^^. You are ignoring what the proffesionals are saying, hence my statement at the end of my last post.
Nwalya42 did you read what Allan Smith posted or just hit the quote thinking you where cleaver?
what you gain in denying airforcefalco a copy of the toolkit?
so realy your just a jerk..
fact as i see them..
Bioware made the game from there devkit that worked on a light mapping server farm
Bioware ported there Devkit to the toolset made to work on one pc.
Bioware made this add
People belived that Ps3 and Xbox360 would be part of the Dragon age community
Bioware released a bate of the toolset (i read about this dose any know more about it was it closed beta or just very empty?)
Bioware released Dragon age :origins (one of the best RPGs in along time)
People where shocked to find out only PC player got the toolset
airforcefalco make this post to see whats up with that
Chris Priestly says the "are ivestigating ways that created content may come to the console versions"
Allan Smith says he sry and unhappy that I made a joke about class action law suits
he also clamed he did not mean discrimination against console owners but they did
im personally happy they will be converting some of the better thing made from the toolkit its a short cry from what you get from the PC copy but its better then nothing. but we where lied to.
so ya ps3/xbox360 users pay more and get less, and we can be upset about that

pretty much how i felt when i read MOST of the posts (except for bioware and those who are actually being HELPFUL!!! ((you know who you are if you had less arguing)))
from the stupid venting for a feature that people should be smart enough to know would only be for PC as you've never really seen one for a console to the fact that someone was stupid enough to threaten them with a class act and actually scare bioware to the point where they can't really help us because they need to choose their words carefully.
the day that idiots stop complaining about wanting free **** because they paid ONCE for only ONE copy of ONE product because they THOUGHT (as in NOT CONFIRMED!!!) a feature would be available for a console that doesn't even exist or has never existed for consoles will be the day i GIVE AWAY my PS3 and my copy of dragon age to some hobo in downtown (which is unlikely to happen)
seriously a lot of people here need to grow the **** up (you know who you are) and stop ****ing like idiots and venting like morons...take that silver spoon out of your mouth and face real life...nothing is given to you because you whine about it...learn to research your games before you purchase them so you don't make idiotic mistakes like THINKING that a toolset to create mods would be included for consoles (does one even EXIST?!?!)

dont kid your self no one has been "helpfull" (besideds Chris Priestly of the bioware team)

didnt the bioware makers say they where braking new ground?
yes it has been done.. http://utforums.epic...ad.php?t=593988 (took me all of ten seconds to find this in google, cuz i didnt want LBP to be my proof lol) i hope the hobo like your copy of dragon age
and no one threaten them, some one made a joke that Allan Smith seemed to not care for.

im sry i dont sit around reseaching video games all day, and like most people if i see an add i think thats what im getting when i buy it, bioware/ea have one line of fine print and its about the ps3 copy being relsead later.

What about the venting from people who are complaining about people who are asking for equal rights? Who woulda thought you had to pay more to get less.
this comes from the guy who was contradicting himself several pages back about being alienated for having to purchase the PC version of the game to get the toolkit...but was perfectly fine to tell people that it's their problem if they don't have a mouse and keyboard for the game if it REQUIRED one...
