I been having a problem with all 3 of the Mass Effect games for the past 3 weeks now. I started a fresh game of Mass Effect 1 and imported to Mass Effect 2 ready for Mass Effect 3s launch. But I noticed a horrible stutter/lag with the games. Its hard to discribe, but I would know if it was a FPS problem because it would just slow down in terms of preformance. The truth is I can run all the games on Max graphics and have flawless preformance.

But during combat the game will pause and start stuttering for 1 or 2 seconds. Its like the game goes into slow motion and the game has to catch up with itself. Its enough to get my killed or make me miss a shot while aiming. It happened with all 3 of the Mass Effect games. But I found it happening less on Mass Effect 3. But during multiplayer its the worst it ever has been. I have 30Mb broadband and my connection is fine. But my friend who has been specating described what he thought was internet lag. He said it happened excately the time I said my game started stuttering he said thats what he saw on my character, just loads of jerking.

I immidently crossed out internet problems because my internet is perfect and I never had problems with it. But it also happens in single player as well. And it was even worse in Mass Effect 1 and 2. But for multiplayer of Mass Effect 3 its even worse.

My specs are:

4GB Ram
Geforce 260GTX
Intel Q6600
Windows 7 64bit
700 Watt Coolermaster
500MB harddrive

try disabling all other programs like anti-virus and stuff to check if those are causing the issue?

I am using Avast Anti Virus. I tryed to turn it off but I can't exit the program. It stays on all the time. I tryed disabling the shields in the program. But even then it still not helping :(! I disabled V-sycn and AA as well and turned my graphics setting down to Low and nothing improves.

I think I have a similar problem too. Every 2-3 minutes my game hangs for 1-2 seconds in both single and multiplayer. It's only been happening to me in ME3 tho. This has been driving me nuts ever since the demo and you're pretty much the only guy I've been able to find with a similar problem, only my specs are:

4GB ram
ATI Radeon HD5770 (with 1920x1080 res and running latest drivers)
AMD Athlon II X4 640
Windows 7 32bit

The game runs flawlessly otherwise with everything max except with AA turned off. I've also got an MSI GX660 laptop with comparable specs (minus the quad core) and it runs fine without any lag, only the res is 1366x768.

i had some pretty ugly stuttering and all was fix when i didn't enable the option "Enable origin in game" in the origin settings. fixed it for me but the bad thing is you need it on if you do want to invite friends into your game for MP.....................................hate origin period

How well do other games run? What about other Unreal Engine 3 games? Have you defragged in a while? Any overclocking? Virus scan (not using Avast) recently?

Give any information you can, even if it might SEEM unrelated (within reason, I don't need to know how many pets you have :P )

Thank you for replying! I am running Skyrim on High without an lag along with Battlefield 3 on medium/high without any lag. Most of all recently games that come out I am able to run with very high FPS and get really good rating. But with all of the Mass Effect games I had this problem.

I can't really think of any Unreal Engine games I play off the top of my head, sorry pal. No I havent defragged in a while, but I litrally did a fresh install of Windows 3 weeks before Mass Effect 3 come out. I think it was about Febuary I did a fresh Windows install and reformat. I havent ran any anti virus scans either. But sence you have mentioned these issues am going to go do them now to see if it makes any difference. But like I said, all my other games are fine.

I checked with fraps and when this period of lag happens it drops to 2-7 FPS before going back up to 60 FPS a second or two later.

Exact same issue. It's like as soon as the game loads your save, for the first 5-10 seconds if you move the mouse to look around, the FPS drops right down to 1-2 FPS. It's almost like the game is caching or something. After a few seconds, the FPS returns to normal and you can look around without any delay.

Weirdly, I had a Nvidia GTX260 installed in my system and was playing ME3 without any problems. I then upgraded to a Radeon HD6850 which is technically a newer, faster card and yet I have problems running ME3!

My system should be more then adequate:

Intel i7 920
Corsair 12GB DDR3 PC3-10700
ASUS Radeon HD6850 1GB GDDR5

Like I say, changed the Nvidia GTX260 for the Radeon HD6850 and have this problem now!
