This has been happening very often to me lately. After a nova I target some enemy right in front of me and try charging him - nothing happens. My poor vanguard just stands there for 1-3 secs, in the middle of a group of blood-thirsty enemies with no shields. Guess what happens. I get killed. And it is pretty damn frustrating, as pretty much all of my deaths are caused by this 'feature'. Makes me not want to play vanguard anymore. Mostly I think this occurs because of lag but I have experienced similar behaviour even when I was the host. In any case, it's unacceptable.
Oh, and nova seems to bug out occasionally as well, taking about a sec after charge to fire. And if you have half-blast and mash the nova button then you won't get a second nova at all (might be intended, though).

The strange thing, BTW is that everything was fine in the demo. Probably this will never get fixed and vanguards will be unusable forever...

vanguards get stuck under the map, and also did so in the demo.
I don't have this problem like you describe, but I do find that sometimes the charge doesn't register.
I started spamming the Y button to charge.

This happens to be often as a Vanguard so I feel your pain. I hate it because it makes me look bad :/ A vanguard's charge is very deadly with good timing, but that 1-3 second random lag gets me killed often. Same with using nova.

this happens to me with Nova as well. since I get the skill that lets me use Nova twice, i expect two fairly rapid Novas, but instead they end up being a good 1-2 sec apart. when I start my own game, i dont usually get this problem though.

Ah, the "ding--ding--ding--ding" sound of doom.
There's also a bug where you charge while dying, and after rez you just bounce on top of the scenery for the rest of the match. Once all of us died except the vanguard, so he had to quit in order for us to get our credits and XP. Needless to say, it sucked.

I wont play VG unless I'm host now because of the charge being delayed or failing to initiate at all.
The input delay often screws up nova cancels as well as it borks your timing.

Sometimes it doesn't activate at all, even though the target is right in front of me without any obstacles in the way. I dislike the fact that vanguard's survivability depends so much on internet connection.

i thought i was the only one having this issue! i was furiously button mashing (triangle for ps3) to get my asari vanguard to charge, but she just stands there and 3 seconds later she's down

No. This is a major issue. I've played with many people having the same problem. You have to get lucky. too many times you will be point blank and can't charge a guy. When I play Vanguard I spend half the time on the ground. It probably doesn't help that almost every time I use Vanguard we seem to be fighting Reapers.

Well, I'm glad to hear it's a vanguard-specific problem. My first character is a Vanguard and I was really worried that the entire multiplayer experience was going to be like this.
I get stuck under/above the map about in in eight games. I'm rather surprised that they didn't fix this prior to release.

I've experienced this as all other vanguards. Funniest thing is, it even happens in the single player game. It's not as big if a deal there but on my insanity vanguard play through I had several deaths do to charge not working when it should. The problem is just exaggerated in MP by latency.

The "easy" way to fix the fail-charge is to carry a light pistol and spam shots in between the charge attempts. So instead of charge -> nova -> charge, make it charge -> 1 shot -> nova -> 1 shot -> charge and it will go off a lot more consistently whenever you are not hosting.

Ugh, it's more like one in four matches now. There's nothing quite like alt-tabbing because your character is flying through space without a ship.
