I don't know if I'm the only one who is bothered by that but I find it really annoying the way that specializations are unlocked. It doesn't make sense that it would apply to any characters you'll ever play.

It makes absolutely no sense plot-wise and it totally breaks continuity and immersion.

Besides there is no challenge left once you've unlocked a specialization. I understand that game designers went for the easy way since you can buy books to unlock some of them but I for one would have liked if you had to play through a miniquest to get one (unlocking the Duelist specialization was quite good in that respect).

Anyway I'd like to know if someone knows of a way the game could be played as if it was the first time, i.e. with specializations locked.

Would editing the FirstRun line in the .ini work?

If you had to unlock them from scratch each playthrough the plot would just revolve around what specs you want. You'd never be able to be a reaver spec WITH Leli and Wynne, if you wanted to be a berserker you'd have to always go to orzammar first, etc.

If Specs where easy to unlock, then I'd agree, but some are incredibly difficult to find without using DragonAgeWiki

I don't think playing a Reaver with Leliana and Wynne in the party would make much sense. It's supposed to be an RPG after all...

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion Orberoz, but I'm looking for something less drastic. I'd like to keep my profiles and my DLCs if possible.

It's possible to play as a Reaver and keep both Wynne and Leliana around. Just don't bring them when doing the deed, blame the Reavers when speaking with Mr. Tomb Raider and use persuasion if confronted about it. Sadly I can't give advice on how to remove the unlocks once they have been opened, but I personally prefer it like this anyways. If you want to roleplay, don't put the talent point into a spec, before you unlock it in a new playthrough? As said, it's a RPG, you play it as you want to play it. Even though things are already unlocked, you will be able to 'unlock' it in following playthroughs with message popping up on-screen and all. Just show some constraint and specialize first when you get the message. 'Problem' solved?

Thanks for clearing the Reaver thing Neil Decurio (the persuasion test makes sense IMO). I understand that I could pretend not to have unlocked certain specializations but I'd rather find some other way.

Does anyone know anything about editing values in the .ini file?
