I'm actually surprised that Stanley didn't shut down this thread in the first place. I got so much used to the End of the line, that I started to think he was a bot. No offence, but I prefer the more human Stanley Woo.

And now I'll zip my mouth because I'm going off-topic.

This thread actually made me understand a few things... I'm still pissed, but at least it feels like there might be a slight chance of cooperation between the fans and the game developers, in a near future.

Honestly, the more rationally I think about it, the more my faith in Bioware returns. Because, from my point of view, they are at the least trying to communicate to their fanbase. Plus, its hard to hate Bioware when one of their representatives is being very polite. (Stanley)

Gotta say, I like that response. But why wait so long to respond?

I imagine they have to be careful what they say. I think the urge to avoid being fired is greater than the urge to post on the forums.

At least, if I had to guess.

I think a bittersweet ending is fair enough, but maybe there was too much bitter, and not enough sweet, in the ending as we have it now. And I think this is universally acknowledged - it needed to go into far more depth.

We always listen and consider what our community has to say. We have been listening the entire time. That does NOT mean, however, that we are obligated to respond, to agree with you, or to develop the game to please you.

We have a lot of people giving us feedback, and due to the diverse nature of our fanbase and community, there are a lot of different opinions and suggestions floating around, and some of it will be contradictory. I encourage all those giving us feedback to consider that the game has only been out a short time and that it does take time to consider all the feedback coming at us. Thank you all for your enthusiasm and support (and criticism). ;)

But in essence aren't you suppose to develop the game to please the player? Why should the player buy a game meant to please the developer and not the purchaser. I think the development staff needs to take economics 101.

Furthermore the website advertises.

“Along the way, your choices drive powerful outcomes, including relationships with key characters, the fate of entire civilizations, and even radically different ending scenarios.”

- Mass Effect 3 Official site.

I fail to see how color palette swaps on a laser beam accounts for radically different endings. This is false advertising at it's worst.

To be pleased is subjective and not all individual share the same stimuli that trigger "pleasing".

Okay.

But where in the hell did they find the group of people that found an ending riddled with plot holes, detached from the rest of the game, and blatantly unlike everything Bioware had promised in the past a "pleasing stimuli"?

Farby you have to also realize those polls can be voted on more than once.:?

Deduct 10K to ensure that you were "fair" or whatever, and it would still be staggering. Hell. Deduct 15k. Still statistically a poll to be recogned with.

Normally, you wouldn't make something this huge just for yourself. You would try to make it open-minded. That was always the mentality of the BioWare games, if I recall correctly. Mass Effect 3 was a great game, there's no denying in that. But to me, it felt like the endings were more personal to the game developers and not enough for the fans. Probably because they have an ambition to pursue the Mass Effect storyline above the third game. But to me, it feels like a betrayal. I was promised a closure for my Shepard, but my Shepard wasn't my Shepard by the end. I'm not spoiling anything here, but the fans who played through the game and feel about the same as me right now, probably know what I'm talking about. On paper, I'm pretty sure those endings were good and all... But to me, there are so many flaws in them, it just cancels everything good that gave a "good" feeling to this franchise. Just my two cents.

I could of dealt with a bitter sweet ending. I could of watched the entire Normandy crew, one by one, give their lives to save the universe from the reapers. If it was well written.

I think a poll Bioware would be satisfied with would have to be completely scientific, polling gamers from around the world who have played ME3, with R squared values calculated, etc.

Oh wait, that isn't possible? But you DO have 40,000 pissed off fans that you choose to ignore? OK, got it.

You need multiple samples for an R2 value.. ah nvm.

Damn...didn't expect to actually run into someone who knows stats.

The problem is, we were supposed to have either one of these, and more, depending on our choices in the previous games. Instead, we got three colors of the same thing.

Stanley meant "you" singular not "you" as in the player base.  They can--and have tried--to create a game to please the majority of fans.  What they cannot do is cater to a single person.

That being said, obviously the endings missed the mark.  There are too many people unhappy with it generating too much noise for BioWare not to be aware of the problems most people have with them.

It will take time for a statement to come out, as people have said, because it has to go through PR first.  Devs are bound by a lot of legal tape that prevents them from immediately saying anything to appease us fans.

The problem is that this is just the visible protest element.

Saying 'oh, 40000 got organised because they were upset doesn't matter because 1.8M people bought the game' is like dismissing 40 000 people marching down your main street.

Sure, it's not everyone who bought the game. But if it gets to the point that everyone who actually bought the game was complaining, you wouldn't even be able to access the forum. =/

Okay, but there were still less than a thousand people who liked the endings.

Deduct 30k, and it's still more than 10-1.

OK if BioWare thinks 40,000 who hate the ending is a self-selecting sample... May I suggest maybe a in-game poll, maybe through origin you can tell who finished the game and send a pop-out window question asking if the player like the the ending or not... Origin certainly knew I finished a game and sent a message to my iPad.

but self-selecting sample doesn't mean it's random, I took the poll, i'm a casual player, I only did one playthrough for all ME games, I didn't even buy the day one DLC thinking i'll just get the storyline elsewhere online, yet i hate the ending because it's so inconsistent with the rest of the trilogy and ruined it in my opinion.
