Okay, how many of us are coming from Neverwinter Nights 2 - well, you know how many camera options they gave us there. A lot. Here, there are virtually none at all.
This feels like Jade Empire.
You end up steering your character from point A to point B. In Nevewinter Nights 2 I would click on the ground and then pan the camera around my character as my character moved. Nope - can't do that in this game. You have to stare at your character's ass the whole time.
And guess what - as far as I can tell, you can't click on the ground and walk your character there. Your character will always run. Wow, just kills the atmosphere. Yes, there's a run/walk toggle for steering your character, but again, I can't stand steering my character - you just end up staring at your character's ass the whole time.
So is this what we have to put up with because the game was made for consoles. Wow. This is hugely, hugely disappointing. To learn that the camera is far more Jade Empire than Neverwinter 2 - just wow.
People are going to be complaining about this for months to come.
Wow, the camera just sucks!

I actually disliked how fiddly the NWN2 Camera was. Couldn't get a full grip of it without it causing problems for me tactically.

I personally found the camera in NWN2 to be extremely frustrating so I guess this news is good for me.

NWN 2 was not bioware.

There are many people, myself included, who don't like the inaccuracy and disconnected feeling you get from click-to-move so some people win, some people lose. But they said this was how it was going to be from the beginning.

I remember 3 camera options in NWN2, and one of those came in the expansion. And I hated it.
Besides, this sounds like karmic payback for you getting the game early.

If I remember correctly, KOTOR used the same type of camera setting and you couldnt click on the ground to make you character move to that position. So i would say its a standard BioWare thing. Also, neverwinter nights 2 wasn't made by BioWare it was Obsidian

If it isn't the NWN2 camera then I won't be complaining. The NWN2 camera was a big fly covered pile of poo, but I am coming to this game from NWN2 and ME. I seriously doubt he is playing the PC version, and if it is the console version then it probably has a JE vibe to it for obvious reasons.

If this is referring to the PC version, I suggest you read the manual, since you can do all of the things you listed.

And guess what - you can't zoom the camera right in on your character. The camera stops way before you get a close up of your character's face.
This is SO disappointing. Why bother having such an elaborate character creation utility when you can't even zoom in on your character! It's even worse than Mass Effect. You feel like you're about ten miles away from your character?
And seriously, you guys actually prefer this? Wow. I sure don't. All the charm of being able to zoom right in and swivel the camera around on my character as my character walks up the street is gone. This feels EXACTLY like Jade Empire. I feel like I'm playing an action game here?
And yes is the PC.
Huge, huge, disappointment.

Ok so I'm confused..
The manual says you can zoom in or out, rotate up and down and left and right.
Not true?

I think he was just using NWN2 as an example of the type of camera he liked to see. I don't think he was implying that Bio made NWN2.
That being said, I don't think NWN2's camera is the ideal example you want to use as a model for "proper cameras"
Here's hoping that they live up to their promise that it's possible to mimic top-down isometric. =D
As for movement, according to page 6 of the manual you can rightclick on the ground where you want to move. Not the most intuitive design choice, but whatever. It should be possible, Unfortunately, right click also seems to rotate the camera AND open the radial menu, so I'm hoping its not a pain in the butt.

The camera in NWN2 drove me nuts, it was too twitchy and easy to accidentally make it trip up. I don't get an appeal of looking at my character at different angles as I walk, so I can't identify with you there. My game arrived today and I should have it soon (my cousin picked it up and bringing it after work) so I'll find how well I like it.
